I'm not dominican, but i think i can answer this, I always wondered this myself before I realized something. The non white always try to find their place in society, and different cultures are forever in stating how civilized or "better" they are of another. Basically although dominicans has african ancestry they don't want to be "Black"!!! Sammy Sosa bleached his face and said where he comes from, lighter people are respected more, huh... go figure! The "i'm not black" thing is really ignorance

@vmmmdr Most Dominicans have obvious Black African ancestry. Due to the history of the country, many have been systematically taught to be ashamed of it and lean on the "Spanish/Indian" thing. No different than us here in America until the Civil Rights and Black Power movements got us hip.

@palmares77 how I can identify more with blacks or whites or whatever when every member of my family could pass for diffrent race...and No no one is adopted we are all blood relatives born and raised in DR... so it gets on my neverves when people say such things I am proud of all the genetic aspects that have made me who i am...I was made, born, and raised in DR and thats what I am...100% Dominican...

@emoney400 Not necessarily, it wasn't a direct reply to what you were saying, but just aggregating, as a side note, to the fact that you could actually get a DNA test to determine your background since you are so diverse judging by your professed immediate family's background.

@palmares77 You can't blame them for the way the black or evidently part black ones see themselves with the whole "white or indian" thing. They are a product of social adaptation to their environment, just like African Americans call themselves "black" when the great majority of them are part white by an average of 20% of total ancestry. In the U.S, many mixed people that call themselves "black" do so out of shame for the implications of rape or forced because of the one drop rule.

@DimmuBorgir007 this is the most accurate and sensible response i have seen on youtube in a while this is the truth alot of "Black" individuals are mixed with something else especially Caribbean countries my grand mother is white on my daddy's side and on my mother my grandfather was part Indian but we call ourselves black we a party black not that its a bad thing but we got include other parts too

@245kmh It is not a race thing, it is a cultural thing. So many blacks in the Dr, you would think you were in Africa in many parts of the country. What Caribbean country hasn't been touched by Africa by way of the Slave trade??

I love the DR. the women are awesome. They are so nice. The Women in Puerto Plata showed me much love when i came to visit. I just love the D.R. The music is off the chain.

The great majority of Argentina is very much white, Spaniard, Italian, German descent and they are still very much "Hispanic."
