Its strange...if you just added the yorkshire accent to T.S Eliot you would have Alan Bennett!! I wonder if its just coincidence or if its a sort of lugubrious drawl that all those assured of their own relevance adopt in the public eye? I know what Amis means about the waste land..the best thing is just to appreciate the poem on its own, at least whilst you are reading it. In fact I think Eliot was playing with people who over anaylse works of poetry rather than letting it just speak.
I agree with her...he wasn't comfortable a day in his life ..ha ha

@pawsoned From what I read - therefore no direct knowledge - it maintains the ritual of the catholic church while still abiding by the schism.
