  • I have the same tractor with a lot less wear. Has given me no trouble until this morning. I was pulling a trailer loaded with parts of a tree downed in this last storm and I believe it broke the piston rod. I'm hoping the piston and cylinder are ok. How likely is this? Does anyone out there know were I can find some instructions for making this repair in the easiest way? Will I have to do a complete rebuild? Or could I possibly get at the rod without breaking it all down?

  • i have a 1975 JD300 which is absolutly identical to that tractor except they changed the model to 316 in 1978 to represent the hp. unfortunatly the engine on mine has a thrown rod, cracked piston, snapped camshaft and a chunk missing from the cyl wall. so i wont be fixing that thing. ill be selling it to a freind come spring. so i just bought a 1982 650 diesel because i wanted a more versitile tractor than what i had, and the 650 has 4wd.

  • I got the exact same John Deere!!!

that is a 1 year model and they are VERY HARD TO FIND!!!

i am gonna restor mine purty soon (as in next year)!!
