I agree with hayazi95. Music is universal and Liszt used his music to express his feelings to the world not just Europe. I can guarantee that Lang Lang, a renowned pianist, understands this song and any of Liszt's work better than you. What you write is frankly offensive.

Lang Lang always overreacts. it's good that he's expressing his emotion. but it needs to be refrained, for audiences' sake. though it's highly dependent on the pianist himself but.. you know... for me, it just... bothers me a little. that's why i prefer other performers such as Yi and Kissin over Lang Lang
i am learning this piece for my certificate of performance(after grade 8 AMEB) and...
it is the hardest piece i ever tried. i practically gave up before the 1minute mark but it sounds really good and i really don want to give up. Yet i m scared my fingers wont go fast and it is technically impossible for me. Tips??

To play like this you have to be willing to sit and practice for hours and hours everyday. It takes a lot of concentration and a lot of time being alone. So of course many of the people who can do that will probably also have some "funny" individual quirks. Lang Lang is concentrating so hard he probably isn't even aware of half of the things he does with his body and face. I'll take all the funny expressions and pianists writhing at the piano if I can hear music like this.

@GiankDiluvi Kissin's clarity is much better generally as a pianist.... Also Lang Lang changes the pace of the music in a very irregular and unpredictable manner, and if he plays the same piece twice, he would play it quite differently to the first time

Lang Lang has always been my idol ever since my piano teacher gave me his CD when I was younger. I love his interpretation of Liebestraum regardless of what all of these "experts" say in the comments. It does make me sad to see these mean comments though, not gonna lie.

I think this guy has incredible talent but he acts like he's more concerned that everyone knows it rather than actually executing it. He just needs to make a few more funny grimaces maybe. I think everyone have their own way to play the piece. And although I would admit that he kinda turn us off, what matter in the music is also how the song is produced. That is the most difficult thing! Playing with feelings is the hardest thing to do. So if he has to do that to produce better sound, it's okay by me. I really don't understand why it is the popular thing to hate Lang Lang...he's an amazing piano player and more importantly a performer. I much prefer to watch how much he puts into his music than to watch a pianist play with no expression in his movement. Lang Lang's eccentricity is amazing :D

Nuccio Trotta's version strikes the real tone of the piece. If he had a Steinway it would sound better than this. 1:25-1:30 is actually very intricate and beautiful on its own. The way lang lang plays it you barely hear it. Following that part he also slightly messed up the rythm - failed attempt to make the piece more emotional. Liszt was himself an incredible master, there is not much room for improvement.

I know that the emotion is from keys and how you play the song because I actually play it before, trust me, I know what it is like. But at least I dont make facial expression and strange hand motion.

Ok I don't realley like Lang Lang when he goes crazy and plays a pice twice as fast, i think much of the colors and those tiny little details might go unnoticed-in my opinon. Yet I must admit, this is just sublime...

Lang Lang has always been my idol ever since my piano teacher gave me his CD when I was younger. I love his interpretation of Liebestraum regardless of what all of these "experts" say in the comments. It does make me sad to see these mean comments though, not gonna lie.

@Dihelson Well put IMHO. Maybe not 100% accurate but too damn close. I think this guy has incredible talent but he acts like he's more concerned that everyone knows it rather than actually executing it. He just needs to make a few more funny grimaces maybe. I've seen Van Cliburn play and many other talented pianists plus videos on here, NO one puts on the act like this guy does - and he's not necessarily "better" than them either, not by a long shot.

I think everyone have their own way to play the piece. And although I would admit that he kinda turn us off, what matter in the music is also how the song is produced. That is the most difficult thing! Playing with feelings is the hardest thing to do. So if he has to do that to produce better sound, it's okay by me. And after reading some comments for this vid, I can see some racist. Too bad, they should have born as animal instead. Just sayin

I really don't understand why it is the popular thing to hate Lang Lang...he's an amazing piano player and more importantly a performer. I much prefer to watch how much he puts into his music than to watch a pianist play with no expression in his movement. Lang Lang's eccentricity is amazing :D

Nuccio Trotta's version strikes the real tone of the piece. If he had a Steinway it would sound better than this. 1:25-1:30 is actually very intricate and beautiful on its own. The way lang lang plays it you barely hear it. Following that part he also slightly messed up the rythm - failed attempt to make the piece more emotional. Liszt was himself an incredible master, there is not much room for improvement.
