There's a fundamental difference between aversion therapy as used to cure drug addiction, and torture; that's the right to withdraw. If you're free to quit at any time, there's no problem. Especially if the end result is to your favour, you've given informed consent and there's only you that's keeping you in.

Human's are being conditioned all the time for every behaviour and everything we do no matter if it is right or wrong. Everyone has a different set of rules and thoughts of what is right or wrong in their mind so no one is ever doing the right thing. No one is perfect. Everyone is conditioned. We are conditioned from the moment we are born, til the moment we die. School, society, media, parents, friends, peers...etc all conditon, judge and accept or reject us. We all conform and are punished.

When we repeat the behavior over and over again it almost becomes like a Stimulus-Response thing because we have been CONDITIONED to that pleasurable feeling. I think it should be up to the person who apparently have the socially unacceptable condition but if this person is in danger to other people and to themselves then the therapy should be perhaps advised.. but if they turn it down I think that in cases like with sex offenders they should be isolated.
there's no cut and dry answer to this problem. it ends up being philosophical and dependent on the individuals set of morals and world view. everyone is different and not all therapies work for everyone for all disorders or "perceived" disorders. variety in therapy procedures should be allowed.. as a modern society we love having options.

I think that if people are going to take these extreme plunges into fringe human behavior such as child porn, hardcore drugs, etc... or they have absolutely no self discipline then aversion therapy may be the way to go, but only if they consent to it.

Aversion therapy is likely to result in traumatic stress, depression, and at the extreme psychosis. Changing the emotional / mental associations does not need the severe approach of aversion therapy. Simply by mapping out the mental / emotional process it can be altered to remove the drive, change the drive to something else, or amplify it. EFT and NLP do this very successfully without any harsh trauma and can even be done without the person actively knowing it's happening..

Aversion is used without restrain in our everyday lives. Politics, commercialism, peer pressure are all mentally aversive. I would like to think that mental aversion therapy is embedded in the psychological make up of every human from birth as the intellect develops so does the need to avert another person, being or thing to suit that human. We all use torture in our own way to get our way be it physical, psychiatric or emotional.
Aversion therapy is useless in undoing the mentioned traits, as they're obviously very deeply, sometimes genetically ingrained - did it really take 10 minutes to say that? But why not provide another option? We understand homosexuality is not a disorder, obviously - but I think society in general would like an alternative to it, in the case of say, pedophilia, maybe? Or is the argument that pedophilia is acceptable? The larger conundrum is how to maintain a society where such traits don't occur.

I think aversion therapy is effective. However not the simplistic way she discribes the clinical aversion therapy. More in the sense that people are afraid of losing their job or being thought of as abnormal. I pushed the law enough to go to prison rather than pay a fine. I could tell that they were anoyed that I was not scared of prison and they lost out on the fine money and had to actually spend a lot of money to punish me. Imagine if everyone did this.

Aversion therapy is likely to result in traumatic stress, depression, and at the extreme psychosis. Changing the emotional / mental associations does not need the severe approach of aversion therapy. Simply by mapping out the mental / emotional process it can be altered to remove the drive, change the drive to something else, or amplify it. EFT and NLP do this very successfully without any harsh trauma and can even be done without the person actively knowing it's happening..

The person being reconditioned/reprogrammed doesn't have to do anything except listen to audio SP messages, while they go about their daily lives.
SP can be used on a person without their knowledge or consent to alter their behavior or beliefs.

anything can be used for good or bad. i think aversion therapy could help train people to do positive habits and develop skills. however, maybe aversion therapy is exclusive to torture, but from what i understand it is any negative stimulus. if aversion therapy was only torture, i would say it should be illegal to submit someone to aversion therapy without their consent/will. other wise it is a sound learning method, very effective.

I believe that we should use this therapy on people, and that way we can stop focussing on crime to the current extent we do, and set our goals to world peace, and landing on other planets. No matter how u look at it, we must get off this rock. And that is the real issue here. So to recap, use electro therapy and be done with Criminals. If they don't comply with the therapy, we just kill them. Done. Or we could use the noncompliant ones to take the first voyages and set up camp for us.

Aversion is used without restrain in our everyday lives. Politics, commercialism, peer pressure are all mentally aversive. I would like to think that mental aversion therapy is embedded in the psychological make up of every human from birth as the intellect develops so does the need to avert another person, being or thing to suit that human. Aversion therapy is useless in undoing the mentioned traits, as they're obviously very deeply, sometimes genetically ingrained - did it really take 10 minutes to say that? But why not provide another option? We understand homosexuality is not a disorder, obviously - but I think society in general would like an alternative to it, in the case of say, pedophilia, maybe? Or is the argument that pedophilia is acceptable? The larger conundrum is how to maintain a society where such traits don't occur.

I think that there are probably other more positive reenforcement type, "conditionings" that could be implemented. Aversion therapy is a bit crude however effective with some applications. It is also hard to have a subjective opinion when alternative approaches to similar undesirable behavioral traits have not been presented. I do not like the aversion approach. How much follow up psychotherapy is needed?

I think aversion therapy is effective. However not the simplistic way she discribes the clinical aversion therapy. More in the sense that people are afraid of losing their job or being thought of as abnormal. I pushed the law enough to go to prison rather than pay a fine. I could tell that they were anoyed that I was not scared of prison and they lost out on the fine money and had to actually spend a lot of money to punish me. Imagine if everyone did this.

I don't like the beginning because it verges on the cusp of saying humans aren't a type of animal, which we are, it's sheer insanity to claim otherwise if you have any knowledge in biology.
That aside, I like the information posted in the video, just not the tidbits that "are humans supposed to be treated like dogs?" It seems like a pointless question to me to stroke the egos of evangelicals or something.
