  • Man the harpoons!!!!!!111one

  • I had look at imovie 08 in the shop (I don't have a mac). It looks a bit simplistic and foolproof like windows movie maker. I use Adobe premiere pro CS3 and Adobe after effects if i'm feeling a little funky and those two are amazing, especially premiere pro. Both are obviously ridiculously complicated in their layout, as is the Adobe way but doing he simple stuff you can do in imovie are much easier and you have like 20 times the functions if you're feeling audacious. Easily worth the money.

  • I agree with you.

I record my videos with iMovie HD, then import into Final Cut Express HD for the majority of my editing.

I can do it all with just that combination while iMovie '08 just sits there getting absolutely no use whatsoever.

I refuse to upgrade to lIfe '09 because Apple is moving in the wrong direction.

  • This new '08 Imovie gives me a headache. Its needlessly complicated and it offers nothing in the way of post special effects. Its a huge step bnackwards for Apple.

  • Hey! I'm best friends with your sister Kayla Kay!

This is austin...but i loved your review!!!

  • wow i wasnt lookin for a second then the bit wif her big eyess scared me lol

  • The music drowned out her voice..couldn't hear it...

  • is iMovie FREE?

  • Nope, it's delivered with iLife packet, which costs something..

    akc211, i'm your fan!

  • what do u mean "im your fan"

  • Not yours :D

When i saw her for the first time half year ago.. <3

  • Okay whenever I upload a video from imovie onto youtube, its all like pixely and its not clear like yours how can i make my videos more clear?

please comment back soon i need it for my videos. thanks.

  • it all depends on how you export. what you would need to do is select export and then select quicktime. Then select that you want it to be CD quality. 8)

  • no unfortunately it comes as a part of the iLife suite which is only 79 bucks for five applications!! The good things is all of the apps you get are extremely useful!! 8)

  • If I were to buy the Mac. Would ilife come with it or do I buy it separately.

  • It comes with every Mac! 8)

  • in that one part when you show all the effects and stuff

how do you make it like a black box around it all and the video is inside it

    PLEASE COMMENT BACK ASAP

I NEED TO KNOW FOR A VIDEO I WANT TO MAKE.

  • it is the bloom filter under the Quartz Composer tab in iMovie HD It is one of my favorite filters!! good luck with your project! 8) Thanks for watching!

  • yah apple is focused on user interface rather than actual effects and titles

  • OnceMacNeverBack dot Com

  • iMovie 08: No Chapter Markers for a DVD No Share to iDVD No Timeline !!! No 'Save Frame' No granularity (only global audio changes allowed) Loss of multiple audio tracks Loss of plugin support We want a REAL upgrade to iMovie I purchased and tried iMovie 08, I RAN back to iMovie 06, now iLife is good again. Send feedback to Apple, and be NICE.
  • iMovie 08 can do the saaaaaame things you were used to (except the titles and stuff, which they will add more later...it's the apple way). Just play around with the program.

  • I have been just playing around with it. It will have to grow on me. I hope they add all of the effects and title capabilities back!!! 8)

  • Yeah me too. Hey at least you can use both of them. If you ever need to create a movie without all the effects you can whip it up in 08 and whenever you want to do some hot stuff you can use 06. They will upgrade it though I'm sure.

  • That has pretty much been my workflow since I upgraded!!! 8)

  • I really enjoyed this review! Btw I'm subscribing to you also because of your cute cousins! And can I say... I really prefer iMovie HD more than the new one. Used the new iMovie in uni today and certain feature changes in there really kinda bummed me.

    Lots of love from Australia!

    Fellow mac user

  • Thanks!!! 8)

  • it can put footage on an external harddrive, just drag it in Imovie 8, the really bad thing is dat that it downgrades dv footage (importing en exporting) the quality looks bad with dv

  • I'll try it and see!!! I didn't think just to drag it in there at save it on the external hard drive. I am so silly!!!

  • you went back to the old imovie by reinstalling the old ilife?

Im curious as to how to go back :P im planning on leaving the new version

  • It should be in a folder that says "iMovie (older version)" Apple must have known we would have been mad because that is the only old iLife app that you can go back to the old version. If it isn't there then they give you a free copy of the newest update to the old version! 8)

  • Now you also made me wanna buy an Isight cam :)

    Tricia

  • PS Someone really ought to have the Apple marketing guys sign you up...I loved how you demoed all the things Imovie 08 lacked/ compared badly with Imovie HD by showing PRACTICAL examples in your Imovie review. Tricia x

  • I have my application into my local Apple store to be a Mac Specialist!! I wish they would call me soon!!!! 8)

  • You GO, girl !! Can I ask how you did that handwriting across the screen effect - it looked like you had just scrawled it right there on the lcd. Is it a font or just a mask. Thanks so much for taking time to do this. I'm in the UK and Ilife 08 just hit us.Keep those vids coming - we love them .Hugs from all your UK fans including Tricia x

  • That was an adventure! I don't know how to use Flash MX or any other animation program but wanted to really put some sort of animation in my movie. I used a program called "Skitch" it is a solely Mac based program that allows you to take pictures from iPhoto or photos from the internet and do basic doodles on them to share. What I did was take a screenshot of my titles and imported that JPEG into iPhoto. Then I just opened up Skitch and found that file and made the first doodle on it.

  • After I finished the first I saved it and then drew another doodle and saved that version so that my first doodle and now second were on there. I continued until I had my desired look. Then I imported those files back into iPhoto so that I could preview them in iMovie's Media Pane and then I imported them into the timeline without the Ken Burn's Effect. I then added the Overlap Title Transition and the Viola...instant animation!!

  • What a great Review, really enjoyed it

    Keep it up

  • Thanks!!!

  • I thought it could reference to an external HD? I'm getting my version of iLife today =D

  • I found a post of one of the blog sites I like to go to (I am a complete dork!) and they macosxhints dot com had an article today on how to reference...Thanks for watching!! 8)

  • yeah lol, its hard not to be a little bit geeky with Apple =D

  • Im watching this video 5 time. Youre really sweet and so merry :D I like you :D

  • Thanks! I appreciate it!!! 8)

  • FCE rules, relatively inexpensive but super powerful!!! i can do anything with it and not that steep of learning curve!!

  • Awesome! That is what I love to hear!! Hopefully that will be my Christmas present to myself!! 8)

  • which camera you are using for the vidz??

    it's very clear and sharp!!

  • It is the built in isight camera on my Macbook!! 8)

  • I believe that Apple is trying to force people to buy Final Cut Express by making iMovie '08 crap. I think one I get my Macbook Pro next month (for Southtube of course, the only reason that I'm getting it.. well, and for school) I'll have to downgrade the iLife suite if they bundle it with '08.

  • Those are my thoughts exactly! I guess I will go with Final Cut! If you couldn't tell from the vid it is on my wishlist!!! 8)

  • Hey you did just great in your battles. It was my fault......my vote did you in. Everybody i vote for gets the boot Hi musosf. Good review, sticking with HD here, need more stuff not less. Great tune also, very unique which, is very hard to do with two million people having the same program. Great job MS.211

  • Thanks so much! I just love Garageband. It makes me feel like a genius!!! It is really fun just to play around with. You will be amazed with what you come up with!! Don't worry about the battle and thanks for voting!!! 8)

  • You are so sweet :)

  • Thank you!! 8)

  • I was able to get my files indexed on an external drive. It was a bit strange (I've just used iMovie 08 for a short while), but I've got it on an external drive. I'll get back to you and tell you how that works.

Great video, loved your end bit with the love for Final Cut! (I'm a big Final Cut fan!)

  • Goodie!!! Please let me know!!! Thanks for watching! The end took forever!!! I don't know how to use Flash animation or anything so I used a series of Skitch photos I drew instead. Turned out kinda cool! :-)

  • Is there a way if you buy a new macbook if you can get ilife 06 insted of the new one? j/w

  • I figured out after stressing about losing my old iMovie that they have released a special update to iMovie which is 6.0.4. I would think that if you get a new Macbook with iLife '08 on it then you could probably download this update and use iMovie HD. This is just me assuming. I would call the Apple Store to look into. Thanks for commenting!! 8)

  • Apple offers a free download of iMovie HD 06 for people who own iLife 08, so you get both for free with a new MacBook. 'You will have to download the older one, though, but that's not much of a problem.

  • Being a mac fan isn't a problem! Don't even TRY to fix it!!! LOL (just hint for next time, the music is slightly too loud... makes it hard to hear you) Cute video! It's ashame that they took away so much. In that respect, I might not be in such a rush to get 08.

  • Thanks! I appreciate it! I thought it would be!!! 8)

  • Not a mac user but maybe time to try it.

Both my PC and laptop are due for updating (just have to find the $ first)

I use studio 10 plus but I find it clunky.

  • You need to! Apple, in my opinion, is just Awesome! Macs just work!!!! 8)

  • This could not have come at a better time! I have been trying to decide which is better, imovie or movie maker. You have helped me decide on imovie. I will keep in mind your advice on Express and Pro.

Thanks for the review. It was informative and funny. :)

  • Thanks so much for watching!!! iMovie is fantastic!! There are several vids on here comparing the two that you should check out!! 8)

  • NIce and timely review, Candace - thanks! I use Final Cut but I'll want to use iMovie to catalog my video; good to know it doesn't reference an external hard drive. My guess is that a 3rd-party company will come out with software that adds more features like that (I use something called iPhoto Library Manager that is a companion to iPhoto; probably something similar for iMovie will happen.) Go Macs! I am a Mac-head like you.

  • Thanks!!! I will keep an eye out for an app like that!!! Thanks again!!! 8)

  • I really like your video, I'm way too harsh on stuff sometimes, but yes I will stick with my iMovie HD and just mess around with the new one. Have a nice day!

  • Thanks for watching! I do like the way it catalogues the video files like photos are in Aperture and iPhoto but I would really like to be able to reference that to an external drive. I though they need to combine this...then I said...Duh...can you say "Final Cut"?? Thanks again!!!

  • I am not a mac user.. but it is neat the things you guys can do..

  • You could too! It is simple really!!! I love my MAC!!! 8)
