  • They changed the song and album from Bleed American to a self titled album and the song to "Salt, Sweat, Sugar" because radio stopped playing the song when 9/11 happened. But, they changed it back to Bleed American when they released the deluxe version of the album.

  • @TheFantasmatron Not really a different key. Jim just changed the melody a little bit. Less screaming, less sustain.

  • @ChickenSex2390 actually it's a half step lower than the album version.

  • Different key? Interesting.

  • Why does Tom have to use a dark backline ?

  • my first ever fest!

  • Whoa, when that riff kicks off - it's epic.

  • not salt sweet sugar bleed american man ^^

  • @fckfanforever1 It's called "Salt Sweat Sugar" since the Iraq War because of some censorship stuff or I dont remember.. anyways, that's the new song / album name ... but anyways, fuck that shit, bleed american rocks!

  • seeing them on the 22nd :D

  • I will see them on Highfield Festival --> great

  • hang on bbc..... thats bleed american not salt sweat sugar...you've got the chorus right.

  • @TheJosjosjosjos It's listed as Salt Sweat Sugar on the UK album and was changed after the September 11 attacks. Same thing with the Bleed American album name going self titled until the 2008 deluxe edition

  • @TheJosjosjosjos To be fair to you though, the title the BBC put up was Salt Sweet Sugar which is just wrong altogether lol

  • Jim Carey + Johnny Knoxville <3 lol

  • there so fucking good

  • I live J.E.W. The energy in every live performance is fking awesome.

  • I've been looking for a live version of this song where Jim didn't sing all the octaves but just sang it like the album. Not because the album is superior or should reign supreme, but because the intensity is there whereas the vocals can be kind of limp on other live versions of this song.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, THAT is how you open up a motherfucking show.

  • I didn't know Johnny Knoxville was second guitar on Jimmy Eat World :P

  • TUNE!!!

  • Make the audience cum out their ears in the first song and they wont even care what you sound like the rest of the time. They could just stop playing near the end and the audience wouldn't even notice.

  • They're so epic!

  • stunning way to start

  • i love how jim is wearing dress slacks :)

  • wtf salt sweet sugar?? BLEED AMERICAN stupid terrorists making people offended of everything thats hints at american death. yeah cos bleed american just means OMG NINE ELEVIN

  • this song decribes a entire generation, and that riffs ,thats makes epic the song

  • brilliant song and there are so many people!! it would suck if ur in the middle and needed to go to the toilet lawl xD

  • Great way to start a set, I love how Tom runs on with a beer. Its sucks he "had" to use a dark backline when you can clearly see his orange Orange standing behind it.

  • @gorszy A Fender Precision Bass

  • Their debut album was a sweet album. It came out in early 2000 back when rock music wasn't American Idol inspired pop rock shit.

  • @420Guitar420 Except there debut album was released in 1994.

  • @420Guitar420 Dude they had releases in 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, and... 99. Get your facts straight, these guys were on a major label for 5 years before Bleed American...

  • haha they label the song wrong at the beginning

  • C.H.O.O.N :)

  • @drummersomthing

it's always been bleed american. never heard the title differently ;)

  • i heard it was called something diFFerent cause the album was released shortly aFter 9/11 so they couldn't call it bleed american?

  • @crackedout123

i did not know this. interesting. ok whatever, it think it's still supposed to be bleed american ;)

  • this song is so anthemic

  • I wish they'd decide what this songs called :P

is Salt Sweat Sugar or Bleed American??

  • bleed american

  • It was Bleed American then 9/11 happened so they renamed it. After a while they decided to change it back.

  • ah right, cheers : )

  • @mikeymike1792 well wat was it wen it wasnt bleed american

  • @poppa108 I think it was called Salt Sweat Sugar. The album was just called Jimmy Eat World.

  • @mikeymike1792, the album was originally "Bleed American" but after 9/11, they decided to change the title to just be self-titled

  • @TheNewIdiotBox Yeah I know. Its changed back now though, they think enough time has passed since.

  • @mikeymike1792 they don't know what i know

  • awesome

  • im pretty sure my band takes more gear on stage, this amuses me xD

sick song though, great opener :-D

  • Amazing performance.

2:07 my favorite part...."uhh" and then Jim comes in with that "YEEEAH!"

  • Fucking proper way to open a show.

  • @15thavenueboys

Yep. Did the same when I went to see them.

  • @15thavenueboys fucking right.

  • Note to soundguy: If I do a crazy dance, turn up my mic.

  • Menu button doesn't work

    what a load of crap!

  • This is from their

    (Clear Throat)

    BEST ALBUM EVA! WOOOOOOOOOOO YEA!

  • This performance shows you don't need 18 Marshall Full Stacks to look and sound amazing live.

  • yea all you need is a 50w orange head with a marshall stack

  • this is some of their best stuff

  • i couldnt believe it when they opened with bleed american! id forgotten how good their performance was... uk tour soon im hoping

  • Love that intro.

  • Jim's sorta hot...Tom's on fire!

    I'm so immature, lol...

  • holy bull shit that was badass

  • Yeah he did, wtf.

Still, probably the best, most original band at that festival.

  • Did that little announcer thing at the start call the song "salt SWEET sugar"?

  • "Bleed American is the fourth album by Jimmy Eat World. It was released on July 18, 2001, and became self-titled (Jimmy Eat World) following the September 11 attacks, before reverting to its original name for a deluxe edition in 2008.

"Bleed American" (renamed "Salt Sweat Sugar" on the self-titled release)"

  • lol, you didn't answer the question ^^

  • yea it did =P

  • That solo sounds much better this way... :)

  • I still remember seeing these guys when there were like well not really big at all, and the ticket guy said to go check these guys out and what nice picture is it to see this talented guys rocking out to crowds like these!!

  • was at the front for these guys...Amazing

  • best intro ever

  • FAvorite Jimmy song (^^)

  • shame there not here this year

  • the changed it from bleed american to salt sweat sugar for the uk release because the uk release date was just after september 11th

  • Screw the politics. It should be called Bleed American! If anyone takes offence from songs with that kind of title, they are weak. Not JEW's problem. Good day. :)

  • Agree. The album was released before 9/11, no big deal.

  • I WAS THERE :D

  • their guitars are in a totally different tuning than they were when they recorded this song.

  • there just tuned down, probably so it was easier for jim to sing

  • they sound real good live

  • Best version here on youtube.

    with out a doubt

  • bleed american actually sounds a bit better half a step down.

it sounds darker to me, which is cool.

    6 dayyss:]

  • oh man awesome!

  • haha

I love how they call it

    "salt sweet sugar"

  • fuck i miss reading

    they were AMAZING

  • I love the live intro to "Bleed American".

I see they still call it "Salt Sweat Sugar" in the UK.

They called it "Salt Sweet Sugar" in the pop-up though. XD

  • probably because the bbc don't want to offend americans lol. to me it's called 'bleed american'

  • Ah. Apparently "sweat" is offensive, too. XD

I heard they're going to re-release Bleed American with a second CD, and they're going to have it titled "Bleed American" instead of "Jimmy Eat World".

  • sweat offensive? probably because the p/c brigade don't want to offend smelly people lool. glad 2 hear they gonna re-release 'jimmy eat world'

  • is it just me or does this song sound like it's in a different key?

  • yes it's a tone lower than on the recording

  • correct, its a half step lower then standard tuning because most of there new songs are written in the half step lower tuning

  • u gotta love jimmy eat world

  • great!!!!!!!!!

  • they were fucking awesome. second best band of the weekend behind lostprophets.

how the fuck were they that low down on the bill, they had much bigger crowds than both maximo park and interpol. they should easily have been third on the bill

  • Best Band of the World

  • Nice, do you have anymore of this stuff?

  • J.E.W. Rulesssss!!!!!! indie rock heroes!!
