@924Lolo - Bella is an Eclectus Parrot, native to Australia and some parts of Paupa New Gunea. They are expensive pets and can live for over 40 years, they also need lots of time and attention. But they are gorgeous.
Not that I know of. We've heard of hens getting egg-bound and needing them broken (by a vet) to clear them. but it's a major ordeal. Bella hasn't laid in awhile. the last one was off a perch, and she really hasn't been as nesty as some other Ekkies.
its amazing the trance like state they go into. i just posted a video of my bella laying an egg. ive always been on the other end holding her so i had my mother tape it so i could see what it was like. she completely goes limp in my arms and she also makes those squeeky noises. Congrats Bella!! good job!!
That was amazing! I've never seen a bird lay an egg before (I have cockatiels nesting now as we speak) and I guess I just didn't appreciate what they went through. Awesome job!
interesting. to be honest you should leave her to incubate them for longer than a month basically leave them in there untill she hardly sits on them that way she wont want to lay any more eggs for a while.
She has laid 3 clutches of two eggs each, which we let her incubate (even though they are infertile) for about a month. This lets her hormones cycle normally. She only goes to nest about every 4 months. This is pretty good all things considered.
Hopefully her a Riley will learn to dance and you can have some babies!!
very interesting video,I seem to feel her pain and I am thinking of our rosie, riley's partner now looking for nest.hw many eggs did she have and how are they? thanks for sharing.
Well, I'm glad I watched this; I didn't know laying eggs was probably just as painful and as hard as giving live birth....but hey, I'd never been around birds so I dunno, maybe that's why. Although it's still having babies... O_o
She's a pretty parrot! Thanks for posting the video.
