i learned that from a guy on youtube called Colhane. he does mission work in Brazil, but he didn't show the fraying of the cordage at the end. great vid.
I just watched this video and thought, "Hey that looks just like the one I do!" Then I read the comments. I normally use the doubled over end of hand made cordage for this splice and pass the free end through it for added strength. I like the way you got rid of the last little bit. Very clear instruction.

Colhane has some very good videos.
This splice is good for an improvised bow string also.
