...johnny ginger and i had "something special" when i was a little girl 'cuz every time he said goodbye it was to "mom, dad, patti,..." and my name is patti. i was/ am sure he was talking just to me...THANK YOU for this wonderful memory!!!!!
Just saw Johnny Ginger live in concert (June 2011). As always, he was the consummate entertainer, excelling at impersonations, ad libs and a few musical salutes. We are truly blessed to still have him with us.
I watched Johnny every day during the late 50's and very early 60's. Boy does this bring back memories. I used to love these sketches and as I watch it now I don't know how he did it so perfectly considering the technology of the times. As I type this, one that comes to mind is one he did with Jackie Wilson's "Lonely Teardrops". Hey, rochestra, does your dad have a copy ot that one?
Just saw an article about JG in Filmfax magazine. It's cool to be able to watch this clip of his vintage show---the article said all the tapes had been wiped by the TV station. Thanks for posting!
I was small, but can still remember this as well as The Friendly Giant, Bozo, Oopsy Daisy, Poop Deck Paul, of course Soupy, and was it Jerry Booth's Fun House? LOL!! How about Rita Bell Prize Movie, and Bill Kennedy...! Great stuff! Thanks for posting/sharing with us!
Johnny used to live one street over from me when I was growing up in Garden City during the 60's. Use to go over there all the time and ask for 3 stooges picture, etc..
I remember back in the 1960's being on his show. I wish I could remember what year. I know it was back around Christmas Time of I think 1963. What fun!
Wow, I never thought I'd ever be able to actually SEE him again, let alone segments from his show back in the early '60's. Thank you. Where did you get this from anyway? We didn't have any recording devices, nothing. How you do it???
So what years was he on - around '62 right? Now we just need some Captain Jolly or Poopdeck Paul. Remember Jingles? My uncle directed that show at CKLW.
I loved watching your dad when I was a kid. It just wasn't a good day unless I could start it by watching Curtain Time Theater. I once sent a letter to Johnny and got back an autographed photo (alas, I no longer have it!). My favorite part of the shows was when Johnny would lip sync a song and it would keep changing and have weird stuff cutting in - sort of like what's in the video here.
I also remember Johnny getting a bit part on the show, The Rifleman. I think he later made jokes about "getting to throw a bucket of water in the street and shout 'Hey Micah! Stranger in town!'"
This brings back so many memories from my childhood. I remember Johnny Ginger showing the Three Stooges every morning before I went to school. He even did a phone interview with Moe Howard who claimed that - due to his Stooge haircut - was the original Beatle. It might just be nostalgia talking, but I remember Detroit local TV as being pretty good! Ginger was pretty far ahead of his time with his mastery of the era's crude technology. His timing was amazing.
Wow, It's been a while.......

This is from Johnny's personal collection. He had them transfered to 16mm film back then.
