  • Wow. I would never have thought it possible to cram so much unbelievably inaccurate "history" into just 90 seconds. Do some reserach on ACTUAL history and learn that a) the middle class long preceded unions, b) compensation, working conditions and living conditions (including the demise of child labor) began and continued BEFORE unions (and where unions were weakest), and c) unions have cost the econony, conservatively, $50 trillion, that might otherwise have gone to workers.

  • Now labor unions are concentrating all their efforts on job security when they should instead be lerrning to look at the big picture.Ironically, making it difficult for companies to lay off employees during tough times may actually endanger job security in the long run by weakening a company's competitiveness.Union need to wake up to the realities of complex financial capitalism and protect their workers without affecting the long-term profitability of their companies.

  • Uh there is Nothing mentioned here of the Extortion, or the Mafia. Sorry but this is not a true represetation of Unions. There is nothing about forced dues, nothing about unions not getting to really vote. Nothing about the Lineing of Democrats pockets.

  • I believe that we still require unions, despite their current alleged condition. If a corrupt/greedy union is able to do so much damage to the community, shouldn't that speak to the power of a corrupt business, particularly large businesses with vastly superior resources? Workers need a form of recourse against their employers, especially in this particularly effed "Fuck you Ive got mine" society. It would seem the solution is proper recourse against unions for check and balance, not removal.

  • Unions are inherently socialist. We have enough safe guards in place to start to disband this Democrat money laundering scheme now. "It's sundown on the union, that was made in the USA, sure was a good idea, till greed got in the way." Bob Dylan.

  • @notonmywatchjunior

Typical conservative, you have no idea what you are talking about. Dylan was referencing the world we see now, where the richest 1% control about 50% of the wealth in this country. We have attacked labor for years and years, and its gotten to the point where the cost of living has skyrocketed, and worker wages have stagnated and even declined. The average person cant make a living on their own anymore. The working and middle class has no advocates.

  • labor unions suck!

  • @atfatw you suck

  • @sjkucinski ver clever krel! labor unions are racist and sexist and are gutless the only thing there good for is to rob their members

  • ***** Super cool Protect american jobs *****

  • When the middle class buy things, they make the (Chinese) economy strong !

  • @RedDaVincy Yeah, ever since "free trade", which is just another way for the haves to screw the have nots in this country.

  • Now we have a country of "makers" and "takers". Unions have been on the decline for a very valid reason.

We now have state laws to protect the workers. Unions have turned into thugs. Public unions were never necessary to begin with.

  • HeyItzMeDawg .. really now, you have a voice but try to throw some substance behind it in our primarily un-unionized private sector. I guarantee you'll be let go in about a month if you continue to haggle over raises or increased benefits, if you aren't an extremely exceptional hire (which 95% of the population aren't, clearly, or they would hold more of the wealth in the U.S.)

  • @Fx123Four "I guarantee you'll be let go in about a month if you continue to haggle over raises or increased benefits"

Yep, because my shitty job doesn't deserve a well-payed employee by any stretch of the imagination. I know exactly how useless my services are to my employer right now, which is why I'm looking for another job before he lays me off. I've got a better chance of landing a job if I can pretend to my next employer that my current workplace values me enough to keep me on.

  • No, the reason the out sourcing is done is due to corporate greed and our government....if we didn't have the unions we would lose all voice.....unions fight for corps to STAY here and pay a fair wage.....period. It's simple unless you are uneducated on the truth and believe the lies of those who continue to take HUGE corp bonuses, and screw the American people......EnRon...BP....u can name those all day....educate yourself and support American workers!

  • @pickle9091 I find it funny that you claim that we would "lose all voice" without unions, and yet less than 8% of all private employees are unionized.

  • @HeyItzMeDawg Right and very few of the other 92% have much of a voice - nor do many of them have any experience as to what improvements in their lives a union represents. The voice of that 8% carries the weight of former times and victories when it was 30% - and crucial workers at that. The voice of that 8% is a check further downward pressure on US workers. Any of the fattest of the union bosses are a speck of the problem the corporate fat cats are....

  • @anahatatutu Face reality: unions don't play a significant role the average persons life, because if they did, we'd be dead.

Unions, with all the legal privileges they enjoy, certainly can benefit those who're paying dues. Of course, higher pay for all union workers means less people actually get hired and some are even laid off. And higher cost to the business means higher prices for all the customers.

Unions just make the poor people poorer and give already well-off people more money.

  • @HeyItzMeDawg "Unions just make the poor people poorer and give already well-off people more money."

Oh, and I would know: I got screwed out of my job because of one.

  • @HeyItzMeDawg

    Sorry you were laid-off Son....

But the Union didn't lay you off

    The company did...

  • @shocktower70 Actually the union drove the company out of business. Was locked into an expensive contract that the union wouldn't back down from or renegotiate after the 08 crash and a few months later we get bought out and I get the pink slip.

  • @HeyItzMeDawg The last legislative victory for labor was the Wagner Act...in 1935! And you blame the unions, LMMFAO!!!

  • @bradjbourgeois73 OK, maybe the last LEGISLATIVE victory was in 1935 but, as we all know, since that time, it has been increasingly common that rules are put into effect without the "annoyance" of actually passing legislation within our republican system. In dispute after dispute, the NLRB and various state governances cater to the unions. I've seen union rules in action that cause massive inefficiencies and kill businesses so give me a break. The rest of us should be LOFAO at your absurdity!

  • @24601guy Posting rights that workers already have so they are informed about them does not kill business, LMMFAO at you! Typical conservative, you make a claim and present it as a fact without providing any evidence or specifics and think you have an argument!

  • @bradjbourgeois73 My friend, I've worked in a union environment and we both know that "posting rights" is not what I'm talking about. Try massive inefficiencies put in place with no other purpose than to pad payrolls and allow membership to slack off. That's the reality. Worse is the fact that many of these rules, particularly those dealing with seniority, unfairly affect good workers within the union and protect the garbage. Unions are all about the "haves" and "have nots", don't kid yourself.

  • @24601guy Unions today are so weak and are constantly attacked, they have to use some tactics that I don't like just to stay alive. Their hayday was the 1950's, when a family of four to ten could live off of one salary and did not have to worry about going bankrupt if anybody got sick. Strong unions=strong middle class=strong America. Period!

  • This is why theirs so much out-sourcing to China. Because our country is becoming a bunch of whining pussies. Sad to watch a decline civilization in-front of my eyes.

  • Most of the private sector is not unionized. Mainly it is just the public sector. Unions were originally helpful when protecting workers against private companies taking advantage of their workers. The government has never done this. Now unions are taking advantage of workers employed by the government. This is bad. Unions are racketeering organizations designed to make profit, not help people.

  • I am a republican. I am also middle class. I also think that unions are like your appendix. Once upon a time they served an important purpose but now all they do is cause problems for people.

  • @NathanRWAndrew Unions keep the middle class from being the working poor. No unions = no middle class.

  • @TheHigherVoltage Not really. Government employed. They aren't unionized.

  • @NathanRWAndrew Government is a completely different animal - it's not a private corp. competing with other private corps. Government has no incentive to continually find/orchestrate ways to squeeze workers for increased profit margins...as is inherent within the mandate of all for-profit incorporation charters.

  • @TheHigherVoltage Unions were necessary in a time long past. With the level of government regulation in hiring workers such as implementation of minimum wage there isn't a need for unions. I do agree that they can be helpful such as helping a teacher when they are being wrongfully sued. But with all the union dues what they help save doesn't cover what they make off the workers. Workers are being ripped off by the unions.

  • @NathanRWAndrew #1 Minimum wage is working poor. #2 No system is perfect, or immune to corruption. #3 Unions keep the middle class alive, without them, we might as well be surfs.

  • PLEASE. Unions are a nothing more than a bunch of people banding together to protect each other, their families, jobs & businesses, from corporations & countries trying to screw them. They PLAGERIZE the US Constitution. Read THEIR constitutions. The one man, one vote! Representation governing. They are NOTHING more...or less... than the epitomy of what our founding fathers created. "To form a more perfect UNION". HATE unions?= you HATE America & what created & protects the middle class.

  • @hangthesobs amen

  • Sadly, the middle class has gotten soft. Don't worry, the rich will fix that, the hard way.

  • oH WHERE OH WHERE WOULD WE BE

  • Reminds me of an old story grandpa used to tell...without unions we'd still be going to work at seven----AGE seven!

  • Republicans hate the middle class. They are the ones trieng to block unions.

  • NICE!!

  • Very good video! I love bluegrass music, but if you want to appeal to young folks, lose the banjo.

  • This is GREAT! Thanks for doing it.

  • Love this video. All laborers need to reliaze the important of labor unions. Even non-union shops have it a lot better thanks to unions. I mean, if there were no unions, they way these companies would treat workers would be worse cause they would be no threat of a union coing in.

  • This should be captioned for the hearing impaired. It's great, otherwise!

  • Awesome!

  • I plan to embed this on my Conn Selmer Strike web site for the those people who can't figure out what unions do. There should be another short video explaining that unions really don't cause company to leave Amercia. Then explain what really does.

  • Woo-hoo!

  • Good work -- simple, short, powerful message.

  • Independent Labor Representation is Essential for a working Democracy.

  • Love it!
