How can i make mine sound like a piano, Please it sound like a organ or something, and i have no memory or Midi Box thingy, isn't there a way of how i can make it sound like a pure piano.
@Erickpowers14 It's not supposed to sound like a piano. It's an analogue synthesizer. If you want something that sounds like a real piano you must have something that plays samples (or an actual real piano... LOL).
@Erickpowers14 go for another keyboard, this one will make amazing pads, beautiful synth "electric" pianos as used in lots of late 80s and early 90s songs, and great synth brasses, but for a realistic piano sounds go for something totally different, sampled based preferably.
I've seen sources saying that the original was layered with a DX7 and others saying it was a TX81Z (also a Yamaha FM synth). Regardless, the JX-8p is the core of the sound.
it starts off on a jx-8p, but once the drum roll finishes and the actual song starts, it's layered with 'synth brass 2' on a jx-3p.
not to be a complete loser, synth-geek but.
if you move the attack to about +2 and the release to about +6, (even though this particular patch is an inverted adsr patch), and turn up your res just a hair, you'll get the actual, identical, sound.
(this, speaking on the jx-3p, not sure on the jx-8p, i don't have one in front of me :)
A slightly quicker attack would have it very close. FX are good. Mic Michaeli of Europe is said to have generated the sound by creating a "brassy sound" on the JX-8P and then layering it with a TX-816 (same as a DX-7-just modular). There's a slighly metallic, biting sound in the original and that is probably the TX-816 layer. I used both these synths extensively years ago, but always thought Europe was using some "mega-synth/sampler" (Synklavier, Fairlight, Oberheim, etc.). Guess I was wrong...
I agree with you except for the part where you mentioned Marry Poppins was eating a Big Mac during the Super Bowl. I'm pretty sure you got it confused with the VonTrap lady eating a Whopper on Easter Sunday, but I know a lot of people who get those things mixed up.
great, you have the original synthesizer, mic michaeli played on back in the 80s. only the awesome programmer is missing. too bad it isn´t produced any more after 24 years...
Yeah., It is pretty similar to original. I have to layer the JX8P with a brassy DX7 sound, and add the right delay and reverb in order to obtain the exactly same sound as on record.
I think You dont have to layer the sound , i figured out that modulation envelope is important , i have attack on 40 , decay on 53 and amount on -1 and it gives me the right detune. Also i used more cutoff cause in original song this sound doesnt "pump" filter that much on attack.
Great tips. I talked about a layer because it seems to be the way that Mic Michaeli did the original sound (JX8P probably layered with a TX7/TX816 module brassy sound).
Could you please be so kind to tell the settings of this great jx-8p preset. I own a JX10 which should be able to play this patch also. Unfortunately stabb brass is not a JX10 preset and a JX is not able to load single tones. So a patch sheet with this patch would be greatly appreciated.
This is the (28?) STAB BRASS preset edited. I've set the filter and envelopes dynamics to 0 (if not, you should press hard for getting that timbre), and added external delay and reverb.
I'm quite sure that the entire "Final Countdown" uses JX8P. I own myself two of them and almost all sounds of the song seems to me similar to some patches (backround voice, "Piano-Sound", your Lead etc). The JX8P is highly underrated, mainly due the fact that it is quite hard to program without the additional programmer.
Agree. JX-8P can be watched on ebay really cheap without programmer. I didn't care about programmer as I am programming synths with the same interface (Press edit, then parameter number/key, set vaule, press another parameter, set value, goin back again..) since 80's so I am used to :)
What a nice sound! I just bought one and waiting for it. In the meantime I watch your great videos. The reverb and delay make the sound very sweet and big.
hah thanks strange. Yours is good too, and you start your vid with Love Walks in from Van Halen! Nice. But You should reach the same sound with yours, at it is a doubled JX-8P :)
i think you've done a wonderfull job and it is as it sounds in the europe music !!

Yup. I verified and it was the brass patch on the Jx-8P. They altered a little bit on the envelope and layered it with something on a DX-7.

I've done the same thing on my JX8P. (It's part of the JX8P initiation process me thinks).
I read someplace that the original song layered the JX8P with a TX816.
Setting dynamics to 0 on the patch makes it so you don't have to slam the keys to get the sound like the original.
SynthaholicNH 4 years ago
Agree.
I Will try to layer this sound with some of my DX7 brassy sounds, and will upload what I get.
Thanks for watching and keep your JX! :)

Really, the best keyboard is Roland's one. Casio's keyboards are toys, they arent very useful and they have an horrible quality of sound.
