So glad there are musicians (musicians!!!) of this caliber out there! Makes "artists" like Lady Gaga even more ridiculous. Plus I appreciate the prodigy of Chris Thile so much that I don't mind his wacky dude-I'm-so-into-the-music faces! ;)
i love the focus on the celo/double bass, i have a new found respect for the instrument, in my opinion it's usually just hid in the back with other bands.
@npeffer - I remember when I heard one of the songs these guys did with Dierks Bentley, that Chris asked each of his band members if they were ready - by name. Would you by any chance know who's who in the calling order?
@winkieandleah I don't understand this comment..Of course he called them all by name to ask if they were ready. Just because he is extremely talented doesn't make him a primadonna who disregards his band mates. I willing to bet that he values each and everyone to the nth degree because he is a true artist not some pop princess who thinks everyone around them is scum. oh & btw.Chris Thile mandolin, Noam Pikelney banjo, Gabe Witcher fiddle, Chris Elderidge guitar, and Paul Kowert bass..thanks
@DaisyDoodleDandy My question is - who is who by nickname? All I know is that Pickles (aka Gabe) plays banjo. I'm a little odd I guess, but I really want to know which nickname goes with which guy. Arkansas, Critter I absolutely think Chris Thile is one of the best musicians I've heard in a long while, and I do not doubt his respect for the other band members. That shows in the quality of the music that they make.
@winkieandleah I apologize. I must have read the question wrong. I am so used to most youtube comments being trash and put downs that I must have read the question that way. Noam Pikelney (banjo) is Pickles, Chris Elderidge (guitar) is Critter, Gabe Witcher (fiddle) is Gabbers or the Judge, Paul Kowert (bass) is Arco Paulo...not sure what Chris Thile's is..he is not known to say. :)
What's wonderful about this song is the order of the instruments. I've watched this a couple of times, but only now, consciously thinking about the order of the instruments did i realise the palindromic nature of the order. Starts with bass, mandolin, banjo... Ends with banjo, mandolin, bass. Really wonderful arrangements.
Words could never describe how good this is
