  • Cantor is a liar that's sold his soul to the insurance industry!

  • I am wondering why paul ryan isnt getting more hype yet. even liberals know he's the best. his budget was way better than obama's and his patient choice act keeps healthcare out of gov. control. y do liberals want gov controlling everything, arent you worried healthcare will be like the post office or dmv. they shouldnt run business.

  • The thing is that the republicans suck so much right now the right wing media is even having trouble defending them. Of course truly dedicated propagandists like beck and hannity will never have any complaints, and if they do, it's just to seem 'balanced'.

  • Joe is pandering to the MSNBC crowd while still being a jackass republican at heart

  • theres nothing wrong w/ Conservative values, they want the same things as Libs but have a diff way of going about it is all.

I think Scarboro is brilliant, and am happy he's on MSNBC: he holds Dems' AND Repubs' feet to the fire

  • Joe is finally getting it.

  • Joe Scarborough is a murderer.

    Are you finally getting it?

  • Why can't they just stay home? They can phone in their no votes. Think of all the money we would save.

  • "People from all over the world come here to get health care"

Yeah, those people are called "wealthy". Most Americans can't afford the luxury of going to the specialists foreigners come here to see.

  • We can solve the health care "crisis" tomorrow with a few easy steps.

    1) Make EVERYONE buy health insurance regardless of the cost.

    2) Make the GOVERNMENT pay providers what they ought for Medicare and Medicaid patients.

    3) Have a federal cap on all medical lawsuits unless criminal intent was involved.

    Problem solved!

  • well, i like the federal cap idea.

  • So no one should be held accountable for negligence then?

  • If it is true criminal negligence yes, but honest mistakes, no. Every drug manufactured has side effects. Every vaccine will probably kill someone who is allergic to it. It takes a billion dollars to research and develop a single medication. Millions are helped, but one or two people die. The company gets sued and stupid people give away a million dollars.

If you want to hold people accountable, hold the 50 million who have mobile phones, new cars, flat screens, and no medical insurance.

  • Cantor just wants the Insurance companies to get more money.

We must GET THE INSURANCE COMPANIES THE HELL OUT -- and go to a single-payer system!

  • "We must GET THE INSURANCE COMPANIES THE HELL OUT -- and go to a single-payer system!"

    Agreed!

  • absolutely not

  • Unfortunately I've dedicated many years of my life to pursuing a career in medicine, the system has a lot of problems. Although it is not a black and white issue there is a point that we should all be able to agree on: Keep the current system -- or anything similar to it -- and you will find the # of Drs dwindling down to nothing. A small clinic dealing w/ insurance = absolute torture.

The capitalist model doesn't work for insurance as there is an inevitable conflict of interest.

  • We Americans spend a larger share of our incomes (16%) on healthcare than citizens of any of the other G20 nations. If those nations have nationalized medicine, then I'm all for it.

  • what a joke...right off the bat he ask "do you have a health plan and what will it costs?'...The Obama Media hasn't even asked that question of Obama in three months!!!!

When the hell are they going to ask Obama, "just where the hell is all this money you're spending coming from Mr. President?" I double dare them to ask that!

  • У нас в России не лучше, не парьтесь......

  • Holy shit, the world is coming to an end. Joe is actually recognizing that the repubs are just blathering and stalling.

  • I love how we have the best care for rich people FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD! Fabulous! What a dweeb this guy is.

  • Why don't these congress people give up their "government" insurance and jump into the wonderful world of private ins??? Better question: WHY ARE WE PAYING FOR IDIOTS LIKE THIS TO HAVE HEALTH INS BETTER THAN 90% OF HIS CONSTITUENTS?

  • The republican shells are just that....empty. They have NO ideas, no plans for addressing any of the problems.

The only solutions they have is like this cantor idiot.....babble, smile, smirk, babble. Oh yeah..and "lower taxes".

How can a first world country like the USA act like a third world country on medical care for it's citizens?.....right....insurance companies and corrupt politicians who PROTECT them.

  • Shorter Eric Cantor: "We don't actually have a plan."

  • I'm 23, had to drop out of college because of congenital conditions that I have.

I work & ALL OF MY MONEY IS SPENT ON HEALTH INSURANCE, DOCTORS VISITS, & MEDICATION. WTF!!!!!

I am so fucking pissed that insurance companies decide EVERTHING! And the god damn doctors! Oh fuck they piss me off too! I had a CONSULTATION with a specialist. We chatted for about 5 MIN & he charged me 400 mother fucking dollars!!!!!! Doctors seem to ONLY care about getting paid & could care less about their patients.

  • "We have no alternative but we are better!"

    Wtf?

  • Who actually watches this trash? If I wanted to see comedy kikes I'd watch one of my Mel Brooks DVDs

  • eric cantor's such a faggot

  • Wow, even Joe Scarborough recognizes it. The GOP is more of the same. All they got is Bush's tax cuts for the top 5%, no healthcare, no plan on the economy, no foreign policy vision, nothing ! What a joke?

  • The only way they can bring down cost is if they are in alignment with the insurance companies. Kill the GOP.

  • As long as health care is a business people will suffer, period. Its not anymore complicated then that. As long as there is someone determining how much profits they can take from me, my health will suffer.. Its not rocket science.

  • Nice.

Scarborough bitch-slaps the GOP with REALITY.

  • That's the problem with Joe. Just when you've built up a big hate for him...he fucks up your head with something like this.

  • Anyone notice Tears for Fears was playing the the background? Let me refresh everyone's memory of a few cherry picked lyrics:

    "I cant stand this indecision

Married with a lack of vision

Everybody wants to rule the world"

  • People in Europe are just treated for free.

  • They pay taxes for it, and usually have co-pays. Most people in Europe also pay for supplemental packages. But they're systems are much better run, much more emphasis on cost control and prevention.

  • I want to be happy about this, but i'm sure Joe will say something tomorrow to remind me why i don't like him!

  • DOING NOTHING IS AN OPTION

probably the best one. Health care has historically been a state issue and there is little reason for that to change

  • Not with health costs rising to 20% of GDP. It's going to bankrupt us more than anything.

  • why are health costs rising? does it really cost $4000 to press the "on" switch on a ct scan machine? did nurse's salaries go up that far (no, they didn't)?

it's greedy for-profit medicine that's making health care costs rise.

  • A lot of medicine is not-for-profit, and many of those hospitals are closing because they're running huge deficits. There are textbooks written on why costs are so high in this country. It's not something that fits in a Youtube comment limit.

  • if you think its expensive now wait until its free. Our system makes it hard to see the true costs and that's exaggerated by free riders in a government program. We pay high healthcare tests because those that are insured want all the best care and newest tests. Its the cost we pay for better care. Cantor's right when he says we have the best care here. Demanding a plan from the republicans is ridiculous because we don't want intervention. Its not a public good or common resource.

  • No universal healthcare system is free. They all have co-pays to prevent over-use (called 'moral hazard'). Basic packages are bare-bones and most people pay for supplemental packages.

In the US, the upper class are getting excellent care But most Americans receive fewer services, for more money, with poorer health outcomes than other western nations. Look at factors like life expectancy, all-cause mortality, morbidity, and cost per quality-adjusted life year.

  • Furthermore, most other systems are much less expensive as a percentage of GDP.

There are some really good models out there. Check out the health system of the Netherlands. It's all private health insurance with a little government intervention to keep it all fair. People who want MORE insurance still buy it.

We're getting killed on cost because people can't afford coverage and show up in the ER needing free care. The higher costs of acute care get passed on to the taxpayer. MUCH higher costs!

  • gplex your correct. No insurance here, my wife was sick the other night, off to the emergency room, $1200 later which i will not be able to pay right away if at all. 47 million people are forced to receive medical care this way. All emergency room visits that are 5 or 6 times the cost of a normal docters office visit done with insurance.

  • Very sorry to hear that. Is she feeling better?

  • lol yea fine.. and thankyou very much for asking..

  • Also, consider the burden on private industry, who are currently expected to provide healthcare benefits. The inability of our corporations to compete is killing American capitalism.

You can believe in capitalism and universal healthcare. It's allowed.

  • true its just not efficient, although neither is our current system. I'm not saying our current system is good i'm just saying the federal government doesn't need to get involved. There's no one European system each country has there own system. States were meant to be the laboratories of change. Before the federal government does anything, we should at least make medicare solvent. I don't have the answers but neither does Washington. The process is deliberately slow for a reason

  • There are answers among health policy circles, and they point to the successes and failures of European countries that have taken various routes. We will probably see mandatory insurance (like with your car) and regulations that force insurance companies to compete for clients. The government will step in only to make sure people can afford their premiums. It's worked elsewhere, it can probably work here.

  • The problem with our current system is that there isn't enough competition and thats partially the fault of policies developed in the 60s that emphasized employer backed insurance over personally purchased insurance. Health insurance is a private good with some positive externalities. The most efficient policy towards such a good is a private system that is subsidized in some way. We should re-evaluate our current laws before we make newones b/c some discourage competition

  • I agree with quite a bit of this. I think the best solution is private competition with government regulation.

  • You may have guessed, I'm somewhat involved in this field. I'm a MD/MPH student. We're learning about all this stuff right now. It's bigger than politics.

  • ya u seem like you do. And it is much bigger than politics, but their the people who think that they can fix it but don't really make anything better. I have no problem with some regulation. One thing that should be done is the elimination of barriers that prevent people from purchasing health care from other states. I just can't imagine that universal coverage is more efficient than the market in the allocation of resources because it never is and never has been. The world isn't perfect

  • Well the point of universal coverage is that everyone has to have some basic, minimum level of insurance. The exact nature and delivery of those policies are up to the private sector. At the very least, it should get people to seek care early on, before their condition worsens into an expensive ER visit. That's where we'll get the real cost savings - that will help balance out Medicare.

  • I doubt it. I read one study from Denmark that showed that preventative care costs more in the long run b/c you have to pay for all the prevention plus the emergency care when they do get sick. I liked Romney's original plan before the dems on beacon screwed it up but now the whole program in MA (where i'm from) is in a huge deficit which shows, in part that its cheaper to pay for the ER visits than insurance. And Medicares too expensive because nobody's auditing it like private companies do

  • I don't know about the system of Denmark specifically. Some countries are running into cost issues (France especially) but it's still far, far better than us. If you have peer-review access, check out: "Health Spending In OECD Countries: Obtaining Value Per Dollar" by Anderson and Frogner (2008). Also, you'd like "Universal Mandatory Health Insurance In The Netherlands: A Model For The United States?" by van de Ven and Schut (2008). It's really pretty exciting stuff.

  • Oh, you're in college! Looks like we're both "in the tribe." What are you studying?

  • GOP - Got O Plan

  • News flash!

Rich people can go anywhere in the world and get top notch health care!

    REALLY? WHAT A REVELATION!

  • Sure..."if you can afford it"...That's what Republicans' bottom line is. Everyone else can just die.

  • Cantor = Lord of the Ramblers

  • Cantor hardly ever says anything worth while. I'm not sure why he's in government other than to play political games and soldier for the right wing. He has nothing to offer America.

  • God, why doesn't Cantor just say "I honestly don't give a flying FUCK about the average American go into debt and dying because of our healthcare. They should have made more money, or not gotten sick in the first place."

  • I love how the repubs always talk about how Washington can't do anything right, while they work in, or with Washington.

You know, some people think it CAN work, so maybe you guys should get the fuck out of DC if you don't think it can.

  • The heathcare insurance companies only care about their bottom line. They don't care about denying health coverage to people who do pay for their insurance. We need Universal Health Care. It's a basic human right.

  • Yes, even Joe Scarborough agrees... Republicans are Absolutely Clueless!

  • Scarborough is a prick a lot of the time, but he does kind of make me see a big difference between 90's republicans and 00's republicans. Dems & Reps in the 90's both had ideas, they both worked together, and made COMPROMISES with each other, which is why our deficit was being cut and the economy was bustling.

Seriously, we weren't on the wrong track then. That was 10-15 years ago. WTF Happened?

Oh yeah, a BJ, a scandal, and a W. Game over.

  • If only Al Gore hadn't given up...

  • If only he would've won that election, we wouldn't be in the situation we're in today.

  • HR 1207 Get your Representative to co-sponsor this bill!

  • "...And you can afford it"

I, for one, think that's the most F%#@#ing outrageous thing I've heard coming from a republican's mouth. Healthcare isn't a privilege, it's a right. It's not a left or right issue, it's basic human rights.

  • I agree! How can they even get away with saying that? It's insane.

  • Insurance companies are pure scum. Always trying to find ways to screw people out of coverage. Single Payer is the only way to go. If you're rich enough to afford it, go buy insurance. Leave the rest of us out of your games.

  • Lets be honest here, How could the party of (do nothing) of (we hate change) have a plan for tackling these issues???

If McCain had won (in other words the GOP) Nothing would be changing right now, Not one thing, as they would corral McCain and keep him in his place with more of the same do nothing Bush/Cheney stay the course type crap, and the country would be in the toilet right now until further notice.

The Dems plans are working, on the economy, country, and hopefully heathcare.

  • Agreed.

  • "pre-existing condition" WTF happens if you get a new condition? I guess under the gop plan ur shit out of luck.

  • People don't get ideas instantaneously. It takes a while for them to arise or be offered or to be presented or written or read. None of this makes good news - that Cantor is reading through proposals to meet his stated criteria is not news nor is it worth mentioning. It would, however, be nice to know. I personally think that most senators and congressmen posing for cameras and trying to boost their chances at reelection. These are no pole numbers in study, and news ain't interested in it.

  • eric didnt even answer the question.

He beeds to go listen to britney and leave politics for the grown ups

  • You can't fix anything without spending more money. And until Republicans get off of their insolence bandwagon, nothing is ever going to change with their party.

  • ROFL I hope not...

  • Smartest?

OH I got it...Eric Cantor can say "NO" in many more words than "NO"!

You keep thinking the Bronze Age (No) Ideas coming from Cantor as being "smart" and leave repairing America to Obama!

  • Even Republicans are getting sick of this bullshit.

  • Wow, even Joe Scarborough is dissing the GOP after kissing the butts for so long.

It seems those days when you ask the GOP for solutions, they fall back on reprogrammed robotic canned responses.

  • when joe is dissing GOP, you know it is the rapture for the GOP lol

  • Every time I see a Republican these days I feel the sudden urge to look desperately for a pacifier just to get them to stop crying! I don't expect them to agree with everything the president is trying to do.. I do however expect them to come up with a solution of their own if they are opposed instead of doing nothing at all. Is that really to much to ask?

  • He has a big mouth.... and nothing but filth comes out. wow.

  • How does Cantor define "efficiently"? I mean, the current system is "efficient" in providing service to people who can afford it, and thus it is highly efficient at profit and limited access. However, most people would not define efficiency in such a fashion. The GOP is doomed by its market-fundamentalist ideology.

  • When he says affordable coverage, he means a mediocre insurance that fight the patients with layers if they get sick. Basically he wants the same thing the is happing now.

    What constituency elected this man?

  • so People will be able to pay a $13000.00a year policy by making $6.50 and hour in a part time job at walmar.

    what a dishonest crackpot.

The man should remove from congress.

  • At this point, republicans would be better off not saying anything. At least then they couldn't dig this whole any deeper.

  • Generalizations rampant!!! All he (Cantor) said, is: "It sure is a problem."

Nothing about medical liability caps. Nothing about affordability. Nothing about pre-existing conditions. Nothing about catastrophic coverage.

    Nothing.

  • love how Cantor said nothing new at all. I am not a big fan of Joe but he is right on the money here
