How dare they dishonor the spirit of decadent adulterers who bankrupted their country and plunged into war and famine with cute pictures of dogs and mushrooms. I mean it is all about the aggrandizement of consumption. That is like saying that they should take the religious iconography out of the Vatican because it "Corrupts the spirit of the place" Overly ornate pompous art is what the spirit of Versailles is all about. If there was a Louis the 37th we'd be installing the same kind of art.
This is an insult, that's what it is... Being this "Prince Sixte-Henri de Bourbon-Parme" guy I would've grabbed a flame thrower and burned all that plastic bukkake crap to the ground after having kicked it out the main gates. I'm glad this Japanese guy is getting sued for this. He deserves that and an additional punch in the face to see if he starts making some fucking sense. Fuck...
This is only business for Murakami and the Versailles' "authorities"... this baby-artist could go in many other places in Paris, but they needed to choose Versailles... Profit and destruction of all beauty, that are the motto nowadays... But they explain that this develops "respect" for other cultures (as if that "thing" was japan culture) and if you're again, you're a "fascist", so, now, come, pay your ticket, and shut up, we are the good and those who know, you just have to obey...
I hated it. I paid 25 euros to visit the chateau and found those mangas in the middle of the beautiful rooms, and in the middle of the garden. Nothing against contemporary art, but this "shocking by contrast" thing is already out of fashion, and I think it is a total lack of respect for the tourists who come to visit this historical place. Besides that, sounds also like a lack of respect for the original art of Versailles and its architects.
@agriss2009 When I read about this rubbish being placed in Versailles the first thing I thought was "this must have pissed off quite a lot of tourists after they payed the fee to go into the palace". I'm glad this French Louis IV descendant guy sued this Japanese idiot...
@Symph909 I am glad to hear that, thanks for sharing :) .. my cousin from Spain also hated it, and that horrible giant golden figure in the garden prevented us even from taking a nice picture. Apparently the guy who runs Versailles has had some crazy ideas of making exhibitions like this, and I've also heard that he wants to make two hotels inside of the complex. I hope not..

Love it ,It adds such a whimsical lightness to the otherwise heavy yet still beautiful Baroque style. These opposites work so well together.Viola
