Im going on 15 years old and im a guitarist, and im not just a power chord kind of person, i know my scales and can play faster than most and a fast learner, would this me a good choice? i realize im not making my decision based on an answer, but Id like to know more.
@Whatisthescore you sound like you had a hard time at the school, if you made it at all. I just want to say to all those people out there who you are trying to scare into not going to this school and being more successful than you that before I came to Berklee I worked in the industry at studio that scored music for television and 40 out of the 60 on staff composers came from this school, and they are making there money back and living really nice lives. Doesn't sound like a scam to me.
None of those past jazz masters didn't go to music college, so why should anybody else? Furthermore, there's much more to music than jazz and, last time I checked, most of the best artists were self-taught. Also, why should anybody be surprised if a few graduates from Berklee went on to have careers? The same could be said of any two-bit school where a few artists come out and find work. The fact is, film and television musicians are hired according to demand, not diplomacy.
@KarateCop First off, I don't play jazz and I know a lot of folks who don't play jazz here. If your argument is that great artists didn't go to Berklee so why should anyone else, that is paramount to saying "so and so came to this restaurant and didn't order the steak, so why should anybody else?" The point is everyone who has ever been a great musician did their time studying and learning, and it wasn't who they learned from that made them great it was how they applied themselves.
"First off, I don't play jazz and I know a lot of folks who don't play jazz here."
Over at studentreviews(dot)com, former alumni talk a great deal about how Berklee always incorporates their patented smooth jazz approach to everything.
"If your argument is that great artists didn't go to Berklee so why should anyone else..."
My argument is against Berklee's ridiculous tuition -- nobody should have to pay so much to learn about music.
Furthermore, there are far more different avenues in music than just wanting to compose for TV/film. Out of however many thousand students that go through Berklee, how many graduate? How many of those graduates have secure, well-paying jobs in the music industry? Hard evidence please.
@TheRiverMusic Furthermore, there are plenty of colleges out there that students don't graduate from besides Berklee. Plenty of colleges out there where students graduate and don't get jobs. So we can go back and forth all day about why that is, but the truth of it is...YOU decide how you will go through life, YOU are the one making the decisions, and whatever route works best for you to succeed works. Some people go to school some don't.
@Whatisthescore ...I love music. I want to learn everything I can about it, and to be honest its hard to be in the music industry. Whether or not you go to school it's never going to be easy, but if you did, it helps. But the teachers here are actual professionals in the industry TODAY making a living at what they love to do. Its very obvious that anyone who would talk down about this school has no idea and most likely wouldn't enjoy it here, so oh well to each his own.
@Whatisthescore i agree they tok my money for an online class had tech issues they did not care! i am filing suit against them anyone out there with a complaint similisr to mine?????
@toneec1 lots of people have similar feelings as you, toneec1. I think there should be a lawsuit related to knowingly accepting people who lack the talent to survive their program/make it in the real world as musicians. I believe millions of dollars have been scammed over the last twenty years or so. The feeling of being screwed is common for most non-scholarship (favored) Berklee students.
That school is bias. Berklee is looking for the same ol same ol. They do not like if you're unique and make music that does not fit into their up tight normal/boring ways. Click my name, I make hip hop music. Make instrumentals, write my own lyrics, even ghost write for other artists and they did not accept me. I'm as original as they come. check my page out and you be the judge. i also have a myspace, you can find it on my youtube profile... GET AT ME. AND EFF JERKLEE
What do they mean get a job in the music business if you look in billboard its nothing but rap record biz executives are crooks and queers leo feist gave a commencement address at berklee after he stole john sebastians publishing.

This guy is a con-artist and so is most of the faculty at Berklee. Don't go there, it is a scam. They accept untalented students with the hopes that they will drop out, then the faculty takes the 30000 dollars that the student already spent. BERKLEE IS A SCAM DO NOT GO THERE.
if it's that bad, take your story to the press! complaining on youtube isn't very effective. if you REALLY wanted to help people, this probably isn't the best way because it's hard to validate your credibility.
@Franko94 The number of students who get accepted but don't belong in music school and are literally forced to drop out through an unfair learning curve is at 70%.
he looks like a nice guy, he's still a musician, and i'd like to meet him. (: thanks for this vid!
