THEY ARE BOTH VERY ARTISTIC BUT I PREFER PLUSHENKO BECAUSE HE IS THINNER AND TALLER THAN YAGUDIN SOMETHING THAT HELPS HIM MOVE SMOOTHLY ON ICE.HOWEVER THEY ARE BOTH BRILLIANT I LIKE THEM
If yagudin didn't retire, if plushenko didn't quit after 2006, I can say I truly believe if Kulik didn't retire so early, he could have achieved more titles than anyone and 's the best because of his emotion, elegance and artistry.
Lots of champions retired because of injury (Urmanov, Yagudin) or other reason (Kulik). It's sad and a pity. On the other hand, longevity and consistency themselves are advantages in sports competition.
Truth is like "Yagudin has one more world champion while Plushenko has more Olympic medals, Euro and GPF champions".
Assumption is like "If Magic Johnson didn't have AIDS, he may have more rings than Jordan. If Ayrton Senna didn't die, he may have more titles or records than Schumacher. If Yagudin didn't retire, he may......" They may, they may not, no one can prove it.
For people considering title doesn't mean anything, just forget it. Anyone can keep their idea of who is the best; because "best" has different standards including subjective ones.
For those considering title matters, shouldn't comparison be made truth to truth and assumption to assumption?

I really don't understand the discussion about who has more titles.how does that show Plush is better?? Don't you know that Yagudin was FORCED to retire because of a serious hip congenital disease!!!and even though he was already fighting with his health complication in 2002, he managed to win the Olympics.I honestly believe that if he could have stayed in eligible skating, he'd be still the best.not because he is more talented or whatever, but because he has a huge heart!!! alexei is the best
@MaggieMaggieable In sports titles are very important because nobody will remember in 2100 who were Yagudin and Plushenko, if they were good or bad skaters. Figure skating fans will read about them on Wikipedia just like we read now about Ulrich Salchow, Karl Schäfer, etc. If you know nothing about a sport or about an athlete how could you know if someone is/was good, average, bad???? You check his achievements!
@SimonaCB I understand your point but when someone in 2100 is going to be checking their achievements, an intelligent person will realise that they are equal...because there will be info about Yagudin's retirement and untill the year of his quitting he had won titles every single year...their title history is the same, we could say, except Plushenko's is longer which doesn't make a difference seeing the fact Yagudin stopped competing.
@MaggieMaggieable Yes, I agree, besides Plushenko is younger than Yagudin so it´s normal to have a longer career even if Yagudin had stayed amateur after 2002.
@MaggieMaggieable What are the arguments by which you demonstrate that Alex is better? I'm really curious. Which element was what has madeAlexei at first? What are his innovations?
What do you know about Plushenko's life? If you have time, this is part of a portrait about Plush with english subtitle. Plush is a very special person..
@iloveplushenko I am afraid I have already said that at the end of my original comment. I don't know why you want to argue here...everyone can say their opinion, I am not taking yours away from you. I prefer Alexei and think he skates better, I am not saying Plushenko is a bad person, neither is he special for me though.
@MaggieMaggieable Because i like to argue :)) And i adore Plush..:))
That is not bad if you love better Alexei. But Plush is greater skater, because he wrote his name in FS history book, he has many innovations. He has more title, I must agree with SimonaCB, 20 years later every FS fans will see only in the lexicon, who was better. "If"- has no sense in the sport. I'm sorry to bother you, but who is writing here, probably will get a contrary opinion or affirmative opinion. :)
@iloveplushenko Don't worry, you're not bothering much:) I usually like the ones who don't have the most titles...I take figure skating as an art more than a sport and Plush didn't win my praise, in fact I find his style too girlish:-) So yeah, I guess my comments here in the "Plush fan world" will get more contrary opinions. thanks for yours!:)
Superb video, I love it! I have always preferred Yagudin, but I am very blessed that I could follow also Plush's career. They are the best figure skaters in the past fifteen years.
Спасибо автору видео! Два короля льда, разве можно определить, кто лучший? Талант от Бога плюс фантастическое трудолюбие - только так можно добиться успеха.
I realy don't understand the Yagudin's fans. They prefer Yagudin, it's OK, but need to see the facts. Jagudin retired 9 years ago, Plushenko skate even today. He has much more titles than Jagudinnak. Probably he will win more titles. Yes, Yagudin was great, and perfect, but isn't better, than Plushenko any way.
@lala630312 I still don't understand Plushenko's fans: he won more titles because he had the time - Yagudin HAD TO retire. And when they challenged each other, apart from 2001 Yagudin always beated Plushenko. So you're not counting direct challenges?
@Porporinablu You are wrong. Jagudin retired after SLC Oly. He was 22 y.o. And he beat Plu.,because he was great. But you don't forget, Plu was only 19!!! almost child, and that was his first Oly Game. And Plu beat Jag in 2000 ECH and in 2001 everywhere!Jagudin won, when Plu was real child, but Plu beat him on every Nat Chships before 2001!!! I think Jag was afraid of Plu.
@Porporinablu Yagudin beat Plushenko in 2001-2002 season , just like Plushenko beat him in 2000-2001. Then Yagudin retired, It was nobody´s fault. What do you mean by "direct challenges"????
Yagudin is not comparable with any of the other skaters of the late 20th and 21st century. He's just so far above them, not just in skill, but in passion, expression and artistry.
@Haley452 Yagudin is a legend because he retired 8 years ago, Plushenko was still competing last year. And you´re right he doesn´t come close, the amount of medals that Plushenko won throughout his career is probably double compared to Yagudin´s. :D
@SimonaCB no, Yagudin is a legend, because noone has come close to his level of passion, expression and artistry since he retired. Plushenko is an amazing skater with many titles and a long, consistent career, which is very impressive, but his style is just one of many and totally fades in comparison to Yagudin's.
btw, how awesome is that, to still argue about it after so many years? ;)
@Haley452 Expression, passion and artistry are subjective. All FS fans say the same about their favourite skaters, " X's passion, artistry" is unmatched, etc.
they are both the best of their time. Plushenko was very young in the end of Yagudin's career, so they can't be really compared at that period. Each one has his own style and has been part of figure skating evolution. Don't quarrel over who's better just enjoy their performances, it would be more of a honor for whoever you like better than offending the other
@naniro1616 i don't agree. Plushenko is only 2 years younger so you can't tell that he was very young and they can't be compared. At that time they were the only two who could win a competition, they were great rivals at the best meaning of this word and they both were fantastic skater, though i've always liked Yagudin more, one i can be sure i'll never forget those times when they compete agaist themselvs.
....so thank YOU guys for being so amazing, and make me love your sport!
@madeinNicobarISLANDS Naniro1616 is right. Plushenko was born 1982. 11.03. Jagudin was born 1980. 03. Almost 3 year. And when Jagudin retired he was 22. y. o.( he won Oly gold) Plushenko was 19 y.o. and 4 month. Plushenko was younger than Rippon(21), Kozuka (21), Chan (20) now. Plushenko was 15 y.o., when he won silver medal in senior EUCH and bronze in senior WCH, and after he was really opponent of the great Jagudin. I prefer and love love Plushenko, he wrote his name in Fs history book.
@madeinNicobarISLANDS It's is true that they were the only two who could win, but onestly, that age (Plushenko's one) is significant. Usually it's between 19-21 years that skaters really mature... I think at 2002 Oly, Yagudin was at his top (also he had an Oly experiece in 98). I guess we should compere them at their own best. Foe example: Yagudin Winter (age 22) and Plushenko Nijinsky (age 22). And then it's much more hard to decide... also, it's very subjective
I had the jpleasure of seeing Plushenko on the 1998 Olympic tour in the US.. he had not competed in the Olympics, I believe he was too young. He came out skating with these amazing triple axels... Illya Kulik stood by the boards and watched him.. Kulik didnt watch any of the other skaters... people in the stands were saying who is that kid (Plushenko) and how he could be an Olympic gold medalist in the future.
@MsSlumdog Oh i forget. Plush is original and lovely, funny person. Have you ever seen Plushy's Asissay, Hafanana, Pasadena, Only You programs? Yag wouldn't be never such a cute skater, than Plush!
/watch?v=ORUPuKhjTp8 The end is really funny!
/watch?v=QdDddEkUxqc In this vid can see the difference styles.
@MsSlumdog No Plushenko is better to me. I haven't seen live, sorry. When i bought the ticket, he had injury. You know, i adore his every moves. He has awesome charisma, what i feel on myself. He is better dancer, he had more musicality. Yag learn the artistry skating , but Plush's artistry come from inside. He changed the FS, he is the most decorated champion. You don't misunderstand me, i like Yag, he is the great skater, but Plush is everything. I didn't watch the male Fs without him.

Amazing video, thankyou! I love both of them! People who hate on either one should stop and be grateful that we were able to watch two such amazing skaters have a rivalry that will never be equalled. Plushenko's career would not have reached the heights it has without Yagudin spurring him on, and the same for Yagudin. Such a shame Yagudin's hips robbed us of another four years of excitement!
@Selfish170 I don't agree with you. Plushenko has awesome charisma, after OLY 2006, Daisuke Takahashi (end 8th, age-19) said on Japanese TV, "oh, my god,, there was a God,,", "I felt amazing aura,, he couldn't hide it" etc.. Plushenko is colorful. Once he is funny (Asissay, Hafanana 2004) once passionate (Carmen), once high art (Tribut to Nijnsky, Tango and Flamenco), he has sense of humor. When Yag trying to be funny, I feel myself uncomfortable, because he isn't.

I love Yagudin.. his artistry, his umanity, his humility..Plushenko is a good skater too, but he's too arrogant..too many controversial issues during these 2010Olympics about jumps, a true champion doesn't do this.
PLushenko is the best skater ever! I remember many expert said about Yag, then he was young, he is not artistry. Evgeni was the youngest skater, who received 6.0 points for the presentation. Evgeni is the real artist on ice!
@hshim80 "Yagudin has great artistry on the ice but sometimes it doesn't appeal to me. His body moves and facial expressions are too theatrical and cheesy. Zhenya has more...natural presentations." --- I totally agree with you. That's exactly what I think!
I love Yagudin but I've always prefered Plushenko. Evgeni has more charisma,he is more expressive, strong and his programms have always something very original and personal.
I know they are both good skaters but Evgeni is the best for me. Yagudin has great artistry on the ice but sometimes it doesn't appeal to me. His body moves and facial expressions are too theatrical and cheesy. Zhenya has more charismatic, masculine, and natural presentations. His skating embodies his true personality :-) That's why I prefer him.
@MsSlumdog You are ridiculous! Plushenko is an technican! Lol! lol! lol! You said what you listened on NBC, and you repeat. you watch this vids!: watch?v=kkhn4KbisJc&feature=related, and watch?v=NGanRnHVNIs (big i not L) and watch?=iIq36EnxXYE (big I not L) Yagudin is great, but he didn't make this!
PLUSHENKO IS THE BEST! He is charismatic, lovely and funny. His personality is charming. He has better presentation, than Yag. Evgeni is originally, exiting, showman! He has beautiful body, perfect to figure skating( higher, than Yag), most elegant. Plushenko is the best skater ever!
I don't understand all the "Plushy vs Yags" debate in terms of their skating ability. They were both absolutely brilliant, why can't we just accept that, and cherish the fact that we were lucky enough to see them both skate?
Alexei Yagudin all the way. He had the charisma, the talent to perform and sell it, the stunning footwork, and the whole package. I could watch him all day and never be bored.
Those who say that Plushenko is only an technician certainly know nothing about him or figure skating。
Yagudin's "story telling" style is certainly easy to understand and accept. But "art" is not always about "obvious" and "dramatic". Plushenko's style like what he did in " tribute to Nijinsky" and "Dark eyes" is also an art, just a different style from Yagudin's.
Just because some of you do not understand his style does not mean he is not an artist.
Sorry but for me Alexei will always be the best of them two. Plushenko with time has lost an hability to dance. Sure he can jump and do quadruples but between the jumps there is nothing and he lacks the charism of Alexei
What a great video! Miss that rivalry so much. I had the pleasure of seeing both of these skaters perform live and I have to say they are both exceptional!!!! Evgeni captured my heart and will always be a champion to me.
i always preferred Yagudin. but i agree one pushed the other to get better so if there was only one of them he wouldn't have reached to that high level. there is no one like Yagudin nowadays
@sopera123 you are right. Right now Plushenko is the best and there are no skaters on the same level as him. Other skaters should step up in their training. I think, Plushenko came back to figure skating because he wants other skaters to want to compete with him, hence increasing difficulty of their programs and, as a result, men's figure skating would return to its excellence.
Hate this music so much. Why everyone is trying to push it into every single hole? This theme was a quite good in a junkie-movie with appropriate ending. Tell your mommy to buy you somekind of dictionary in order you would be able to learn that REQUIEM is a liturgial service, closely connected to FUNERALS. Thanks God both Yagudin and Plushenko are alive and both are Olympic champions, all their dreams came true!
Great montage! Thanks a lot, you've done a truly brilliant job. God knows how badly I miss the precious time of this rivalry. It was absolutely ingenious - pure nerve, pure passion, pure sport. So sad we will never see both of them competing again...
It's impossible to chose who's best between those two great skaters. Both are wonderful performers. The battle against each other pushed them to reach the highest levels in figure skating and we all are happy for that. Nobody at the moment could even imagine to top any of their performances! Waiting for Plush's return in Vancouver. Go Zhenja!!!
Thank you Anya14, beautiful! There is no point in choosing who is the best! That would be so difficult and unfair cause each performance is unique and everyone has his good or not days. The point for me is that they were both lucky (and us too) to have the other as a component cause this competition reached them to their limits and gave them a motive to give us the most excitng performances ever!!!I I think these were the best days for figure skating as a sport...
Wow... how people can be so harsh against Plushenko is beyond me. They both are completely different skaters, performers, artists, and people but they still are all those things nonetheless. Comparing one to the other is not what skating is all about. It's the differences that make us pay attention. I find both to be exquisite athletes AND wonderful performers.
It is so bad!!! After the finest sport war possible (so high technical and artistic standards) between this pair of russian genius, we have to conform with well trained mediocrities as Brian Joubert and others I want my russians back for the next season!!!!
i totally agree. after yagudin left and plushenko was left alone winning everything basically on his own (the only times he didn't win was when he lost as opposed to others winning) competitions lost a flavor. then when plushenko they just turned dead boring,
beautiful montage!!! <3 So many memories... I miss Lyosha soooo much :(:( Such a fire on the ice...
Plush was realy good too, but after Alexei quitted, the competition was never the same again... Which was kinda sad to see- I loved that thrill whenever they were skating against each other... Such a battle on an ice-ring ;)
Yagudin didn't quit he was forced to after his federation made him when he got hurt. Yagudin would still be skating most likely if he hadn't been hurt or forced to leave the amature world.

lala630312 10 months ago
@Haley452 Yagudin is a legend because he retired 8 years ago, Plushenko was still competing last year. And you´re right he doesn´t come close, the amount of medals that Plushenko won throughout his career is probably double compared to Yagudin´s. :D
SimonaCB 10 months ago
@SimonaCB no, Yagudin is a legend, because noone has come close to his level of passion, expression and artistry since he retired. Plushenko is an amazing skater with many titles and a long, consistent career, which is very impressive, but his style is just one of many and totally fades in comparison to Yagudin's.
btw, how awesome is that, to still argue about it after so many years? ;)
Haley452 10 months ago
@Haley452 Expression, passion and artistry are subjective. All FS fans say the same about their favourite skaters, " X's passion, artistry" is unmatched, etc.

they are both the best of their time. Plushenko was very young in the end of Yagudin's career, so they can't be really compared at that period. Each one has his own style and has been part of figure skating evolution. Don't quarrel over who's better just enjoy their performances, it would be more of a honor for whoever you like better than offending the other
naniro1616 1 year ago 2
@naniro1616 i don't agree. Plushenko is only 2 years younger so you can't tell that he was very young and they can't be compared. At that time they were the only two who could win a competition, they were great rivals at the best meaning of this word and they both were fantastic skater, though i've always liked Yagudin more, one i can be sure i'll never forget those times when they compete agaist themselvs.
....so thank YOU guys for being so amazing, and make me love your sport!
madeinNicobarISLANDS 1 year ago
@madeinNicobarISLANDS Naniro1616 is right. Plushenko was born 1982. 11.03. Jagudin was born 1980. 03. Almost 3 year. And when Jagudin retired he was 22. y. o.( he won Oly gold) Plushenko was 19 y.o. and 4 month. Plushenko was younger than Rippon(21), Kozuka (21), Chan (20) now. Plushenko was 15 y.o., when he won silver medal in senior EUCH and bronze in senior WCH, and after he was really opponent of the great Jagudin. I prefer and love love Plushenko, he wrote his name in Fs history book.
lala630312 1 year ago 3

Such a shame Yagudin's hips robbed us of another four years of excitement!
walover165 1 year ago 4
They are totally different, they can not be judged.
Plushenko - plasticity and romance.
Yagudin - force, pressure and charisma.
They way in life very much at odds. And their coaches, too. Tarasova hates Mishin Mishin, hates Tarasov.
Tarasova, once said his high-pitched voice "Yagudin can all".
At that Mishin said "Yagudin your fucking fucking imagines.
That such a love.
But Plushenko 3 medals at Olympic, and Yagudin 1.

MrEvan75 1 year ago 3
I love Yagudin but I've always prefered Plushenko. Evgeni has more charisma,he is more expressive, strong and his programms have always something very original and personal.
pirate2700 1 year ago 26
I know they are both good skaters but Evgeni is the best for me. Yagudin has great artistry on the ice but sometimes it doesn't appeal to me. His body moves and facial expressions are too theatrical and cheesy. Zhenya has more charismatic, masculine, and natural presentations. His skating embodies his true personality :-) That's why I prefer him.
hshim80 1 year ago 23

PLUSHENKO IS THE BEST! He is charismatic, lovely and funny. His personality is charming. He has better presentation, than Yag. Evgeni is originally, exiting, showman! He has beautiful body, perfect to figure skating( higher, than Yag), most elegant. Plushenko is the best skater ever!

I don't understand all the "Plushy vs Yags" debate in terms of their skating ability. They were both absolutely brilliant, why can't we just accept that, and cherish the fact that we were lucky enough to see them both skate?
aussiepassion 1 year ago 10
Alexei Yagudin all the way. He had the charisma, the talent to perform and sell it, the stunning footwork, and the whole package. I could watch him all day and never be bored.
XxSkatingFan4LifexXD 1 year ago 5
Yagudin is the best!!!!
skolokus33 1 year ago 7
Those who say that Plushenko is only an technician certainly know nothing about him or figure skating。
Yagudin's "story telling" style is certainly easy to understand and accept. But "art" is not always about "obvious" and "dramatic". Plushenko's style like what he did in " tribute to Nijinsky" and "Dark eyes" is also an art, just a different style from Yagudin's.
Just because some of you do not understand his style does not mean he is not an artist.
doyouever816 1 year ago 4
Sorry but for me Alexei will always be the best of them two. Plushenko with time has lost an hability to dance. Sure he can jump and do quadruples but between the jumps there is nothing and he lacks the charism of Alexei

As a matter of fact, Plushenko has no one to comepete with, now that skaters at junior levels are beating him...so unfortunate
sopera123 2 years ago 2

Or did you mean requiem for your dream?

It's impossible to chose who's best between those two great skaters. Both are wonderful performers. The battle against each other pushed them to reach the highest levels in figure skating and we all are happy for that. Nobody at the moment could even imagine to top any of their performances!
