1. if you believe that it looks weird then it does, if you dont believe it looks weird then it doesnt.
2. some experts might also say that its not smart to go into a fight without a weapon, drunk, or with the sniffles. doesnt really matter as long as you know what ur doing and can do it. techniques do not matter.
3. it would be the same, the only difference i could think of would be that your opponent or people watching wouldnt know right away what art you are performing.
>> Praying Mantis is very useful and fatal. I dont know who are those "most people" you mean, but most people here I met seems serious to Praying Mantis.
2.
>> That's Mantis pose. In ancient time, that means what your style is. But in real fight nobody keep that hand pose (hand pose in this video clip is non-sense. It's easy to get your finger broken. The mantis hands is not like that). The mantis hand only exists when I hit you, not I show you.
>> I think I answer this question with 2). Also, open hands (I guess what you mean is to open fingers) has its adv and dis-adv. As far as I know, most traditional kung fu uses more open fingers than fist. And that is because of the way of understanding JING is diff between Chinese and Westerner.
one question why cant anybody just learn kung fu ??? like someone goes up to some guy who knows it "hey can you teach me kung fu " and they imidiatly just say no , why ?
my guess is this if ur in a western nation not many ppl know kungfu (very few) thats whats intresting not many ppl do kungfu thats whats appealing to many ppl.if ppl did kungfu like they do boxing or karate the art would loose its appeal
First off all, a lot of teachers they spend their time with teaching students, a lot of students just give up or come to train often. Some masters think thats a waste of their time and some don't.
Some people have a high level of arrogance, which means they'll never learn anything in their whole life.
its an american form, not the actual form. much is the same about the whole system though. not gonna make you a master really... plus he doesnt ever talk about why, or the reasoning behind the moves or the philosophy, much is different. It's american, not actual.
I would probably agree to an extent that that exact hand position wouldn't be used in a real self defense situation, but there are many things done in practice to develop the body, but then applied in a different way in a self defense situation. That hand position can develop finger, hand and wrist dexterity, strength, and flexibility. I wouldn't totally dismiss it or say it is wrong.
in mantis, we have unique way to train finger, but not the hand shape. as a Chinese, as a serious Tang Lang Quan praticer, i dont think the hand should be tight intentionally, it is tight because by doing a correct pose it IS tight.
1. Most people who see PM Kung Fu think it look funny and weird, what do you think about that?
2. Most self-defence expert would say its un smart to stand on one leg and holding your hands like that in front of an aggressor, using your hands open is better. What do you think about that?
3. Do you think the art can be just as effective with open hands instead of the hooking formatation?
mantis style itsself is difficult to learn at first, and it has many similarities in its form with crane although it has different techniques in it. either one is great.
Master Qu. Youtube him to see a real Mantis Master. no instructional videos though, sorry.

These kung fu videos are cool, but I don't think you can actually learn kung fu from the internet...an actual teacher is required.

Hi I just want your opinion on some things:
Thank you very much in advance!
