i think you need to upgrade your graphics card or something you lag quite abit

1. put a 2 block hole in the roof.

2. put a piston that pushes sideways into block space on bottom

3. connect your fancy redstone circuitry to a switch and the piston

4. put water in top block space.

5. flip the switch

6. collect all mushrooms

7. turn switch into "off" position

8. grow more mushrooms

9. repeat

Is there any way to make a water curtan with a 5-wide area?

I made a waterfall thing in a base which opens/closes with pistons (And a bunch of pain in the ass redstone wiring) that activates whenever the door is opened, and the only way I can keep it from flooding is by making a 5x3 hole and placing half-steps.

You can make this at a smaller, easier to make scale, just make a 1x1 hole in the ceiling instead for a 1x1 passage, thumbs up so people will know.
