as a former student of the johns hopkins professor who led the study, i believe i have some clout to make a few comments here.

1. no one is defending sadaam. he was a tyrant

2. the pentagon has an inherent conflict of interest in reporting civilian death casualties

3. they were an independent group of scientists

4. they published in a long-reputable peer-reviewed medical journal

5. they asked about all deaths from violence, most of which were not direct but indirect result of coalition forces

The media rarely mentions the death of civilians. The death rate durin Sadaam's rule is actually less than the death rate after U.S.'s "fight for freedom" in March, 2003. There are 100,000 deaths that wasn't supposed to happen that happened after the U.S. attack.
