All I have read/interviews about SP and other associates talking about him I think LQ has nailed it down to the ground. LQ Jones, Srother Martin,Slim Pickins were best friends and worked many movies together. IMO they are the finest of tough genuine actors. Thankfully LQ is still active & working. It is true,SP did have his company of actors on his films who admired and tolerated his mood swings. SP was a brilliant director but was actually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
I believe that part of Peckinpah's abusiveness was learned from the people and natural enivironement in which of he was raised . Parents and authority figures of his era were very strict and direct sometimes becoming abusive. The line between loving strictness and physical or emotional abuse was blurry at that time. I'm sure that his abrasiveness was a learned trait, that when mixed with alocoholism and a extreme passion to create art, could focus tirades upon those he loves and respected.
Old school directors were dictators..... Peckinpah was a genious because of the way he portayed reality. Straw Dogs is a good example; in that movie, Dustin Hoffman masterfully performed his best role as an actor.
What I didn't get here. Did sam take the 5000$ from Slim Pickens? Also, The Cincinnati Kid was made in 65, Sam worked with Slim on Pat Garret & Billy The Kid in 1973. SO he must have talked to him again?
@roedalacket I think LQ meant Slim's kind gesture put him on SP's shite list which apparently everyone was on at least ten times a day. SP was always broke and lived in the trailer in Malibu. Never had a house on that property. Cheers

This is so cool. LQ Jones is one of my favorite character actors. Is there anymore of him talking about his experiences?

Sam started directing Cincinnati Kid, then got fired midway through production, Norman Jewison took over and its credited to him
