-sigh- you people don't understand anything, you all keep saying it looks like Denmark in the 1800's. That's because solving was settled by danes in the 1800's. Don't be so stuck up, it's a Danish town settled by Danish people, if you think it has no Danish spark in it, then your just naieve.
im danish and i dont recognize any of this as danish. even the music is irish and the buildings are in austrian style? sorry but thats really wrong. there are no wooden churches in denmark. solvang is really fucked up.but im glad its there its a good idea. and i hope to come someday
My wife and I were there just a few weekends back and had a great time. It is quaint, unique and (I assume) very Danish. Not like other American towns. It is placed in a beautiful setting with many cool wineries around. This town was introduced to Americans from the movie "Sideways" (2005) which we enjoyed very much. So we had dinner at the Hitching Post one night and the next night we enjoyed a wonderful evening at Root 246...the best restaurant in town. It is a great weekend getaway.
Yea... I'm Danish but I have never been to either Denmark nor Solvang but I am planning on going to both soon. In my opinion it shouldn't have all those windmills, that is the Dutch thing and if you really wanted it to be more Danish it should have more bikes not cars :P. Denmark has a HUGE biking population.
Listen, Solvang does look like Denmark looked all the way back in the 1800 hundreds. Great to see there's such a place in the USA. Looks like a great place. But people should also come and visit real Denmark in Europe.
Nah,, doesn't look perticularly Dutch, Austrian or German, it is a little of everything. But the mill is nothing like Dutch windmills,, more like it would look in a town long ago in Denmark. The round tower is a copy of "Rundetårn" litt. "Roundtower" in Denmark. The weather seems to be like a Danish summer also hehe.
doesn't look Danish. Like AndreasDammand said, it looks more Dutch, or Austrian. But it DOES look like a cozy little place. I had to laugh about the fact that there was a plack there that told the story of Gorm the Old (Gorm den Gamle) though. Hah.
Solvang is the nicest place to live, quiet place, nice weather, great to do business, etc. If someone does not think so, does not deserve to live here.
weird, it doesn't look like a Danish village at all....the architecture looks a bit dutch..if people want to see denmark, they should go to Denmark....the only thing that looks like something Danish is the round tower which is a copy of a tower in copenhagen.
there's a nice coffee shop next to backdoor boardshop. I used to live in solvang several years ago, but the focus is on things I never bothered to look at when I lived there.
Sorry, auto correct on my iPad made solvang into solving. Anyway, you get what I mean.

Your right though, there might be some Dutch and German in the architecture aswell. But certainly also danish looking houses of that time period.

The houses in this movie are a german/austrian style of building, and those mills are dutch.
