  • what should the temps be at. i have a asus P5N-E sli with a Dual core 2 E6600, with 2 Nvidia geforce 8800 gts in sli mode. 800 watt psw all in a case with 5 case fans, what should the temps be for the CPU, GPU's and RAM i have 4 gig of it DDR2

  • @gow75 : I no longer have this system, so it's been a long time.

But as a rule of thumb:

*Keep the CPU under 60 Degrees Celsius. Do not exceed over 1.55V for VCore.

*Keep the GPU's under 100 Degrees Celsius to prevent damage. If overclocking, the GPU will become much more sensitive to heat. Keep them below 70C however you can to achieve higher overclocks.

*If I remember correctly, DDR2's Voltage max is 2.20V. Aim for a balance between tight timings and a high clock speed. Hot to the touch=bad.

  • JUST GAVE MY SON AN OLD P5NE-SLI GOT THE E6600 RUNNING AT 3GHZ GREAT THINKING ABOUT TRANFERINT IT OVER FOR AN HTPC BUILD AND BUILDING HIM AN AMD MACHINE NOT SURE WHAT WOULD BE CHEAPER

  • @asus3571 : If budget is your concern, stick with an AMD system. Also, the NVIDIA Mid-Range cards nowadays are very good for the features they offer. My GTX460's in SLI can play almost any game at maxed out settings, especially when overclocked. Of course, resolution is a big concern depending on the card you want. If playing games at 1080p is your thing, I'd stick with the GTX570. Otherwise, stick with the GTX460 as it's very cheap right now.

  • @soma1509 so ur saying it would be more exspensive to tranfer the asudp5n-e over to an htpc case for movies minor intermet really no gameing than to build a whole new amd system for my son??

  • @asus3571 : What I am saying is that if you're buying/building a brand new gaming or high-performance system, it wouldn't really make sense going all-out on the new Intel systems that are out there nowadays. AMD offers more balanced systems with a decent bang for the buck.

If you really feel like you need to do the overhaul, then AMD is your best choice without killing your wallet, Your ASUS system should be more than suitable for an HTPC, especially if the case you're picking for it is cheap.

  • yea bro nice oldschool shit im still running a cyberpower pc with the p5ne got it in 07 never overclocked till today got the e6600 at just shy of 2700mhz need a better cooler to get it higher the freezer7 pro still keepin it below 40 idle but gets up to almost 60 load pretty sure that chips max is 65c

  • @asus3571 : The bad news is that it died a few weeks later xD

    The DIMM slots went out.

  • p.s my cpu chip is a q6600 core2 quad core. its overclocked to 2700ghz yeah my bios wont let me overclock but there is other ways

  • i have this board but the bios is limited. no over clocking can be done. its a Packard bell ipower mobo, i took it and used It as a base for my build. im running sli and its handling well 4gig of ram as 32bit os. side blower fan for graphics (home built, sprayed, decal ed) 3 hard drives going to be striped one day. north-bridge gets quite hot but benchmarking and tests confirm a stable machine. good mobo for what it is and i can play crisis :) 3 chassis fans and silent knight 2 cpu fan

  • holy shiz thats loud o_0" and...i wouldnt dare touching my cpu heatsink o_o sadly it came stock with NO CPU FAN....just a heatsink...lol...^^'

  • Thanks for the quick reply, I am looking forward to upgrading to a i7. However I do not think ill be able to for at least 4 to 5 months. And I might just go the am3 route anyway. I do not OC for fear of loosing expensive stuff, tweaking scares me. My 650i is a diehard mobo for the most part.

The only issue I have seen is on post it tells me that the bios needs an update to unleash the full power of my cpu. Think I should just go with a duel core for now? What are you using for video? Thanks.

  • Well, if budget is a concern, I think the Q8400 is just as good...I don't believe the cache in that model will be a problem, so when I get the money, I'm going for that quad core.

I don't know too much about AMD though, but I have seen the capabilities of their new Phenom 2's...they surely match the prices they're at now. To be honest, I wouldn't bother with an i7 until the cheapest quad goes below 200 bucks.

For video? I'm using an E6850. It's not much, but it's definitely decent.

  • I have the same mobo and case, Its a dust machine. Sad part is I spent the money on a fancy case and 600w psu. Stuck using a p4 for now. I am going to be sticking some bucks into this thing in a week for a new cpu, there was just a bios update that made the board work with a Core 2 Quad Q9505(rev.R0,2.83GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB)

Anyone use this with this board yet?

Can you even run a 200s Nvidia card on this thing. I cant afford a whole i7 platform switch, so if anyone can help it would be cool.

  • Trust me when I say this...spend your money on a new 780i board if you're going for a quad-core especially if you're overclocking (best preferred from EVGA or XFX).

When I bought my 780i from newegg, it was worth about 170 with free shipping. I don't know how cheap it is now.

That board in this vid was lucky enough to boot and last for a few days, not to mention this was my 2nd RMA board, but after a while 3 of the 4 DIMM slots died, and Quad-Cores doesn't OC good on this board.

  • i had the same board (p5n-e) it worked fine even with overclock but i gave it away and upgraded to a 750iFTW

  • The most ironic part of this it died...AGAIN!

All of its DIMM slots just dropped dead, so I just gave up on it now.

Now I have an XFX 780i motherboard...working great so far...

  • what cpu and how far is your OC?

  • As of now I am using a Core 2 Duo E6850 to overclock since I think my quad core is dying, though I'm not sure.

Currently it is overclocked with the following settings:

    Core Speed: 3553MHz

    Multiplier: 7x

    FSB: 2030MHz

Why the low multiplier, you ask? I wanted a higher overclock on the board so that way there's less system lag and the stress is evened out throughout my system. Right now I have OCZ Vista Upgrade RAM PC-5300 667MHz.(maxed out at 951MHz as of now). Planning to upgrade those soon :)

  • Interesting... my P5N-E died with the same reason

  • lol Video Response to my little Vid THX :]

    in the meantime i got a ASUS P5Q and now a P5N-D with a Intel E8400 @ 4,12GHz @ 1,45V ^^

  • lol! Sorry for the delayed response as my internet is very limited :(

But thank YOU for this tutorial, as my VDroop is no more :)

  • Great vid nice overclock! 5/5

Love the rig looks good nice cooling you got overall.

  • Thanks!

I finally managed to fit my second 9800gtx back in. I just had to remove the plastic covering, and I gotta admit, their heatsinks look cool.

  • awsome bro!

  • Thanks, though I already envy your new system :)

  • i was thinking of buying that case but have found a better one. it is the cooler master haf 932

  • Ahhhh yes...

I seriously want to replace this case with that one, though idk.

Im thinking of either shrinking down to size with a Lian-Li Midtower, but fitted with a Vapochill Phase-Change Cooler along with the rest of my stuff (or a new mobo), or just get this HAF case and go do some real watercooling.

Of course, this is an upgrade that I will do hopefully in a couple year's time.
