I downloaded wubi earlier, and I really would actually love to use Ubuntu. The main reason is that it is fast and it won't slow down in the future. I like that about Ubuntu. Plus, I love the accessibility.
So, if I'm correct, you download Wubi, install it, and it automatically downloads and installs the latest Ubuntu version on your PC without it having to partition your hard drive, then you can enter a password?
I am aware of that and disappointed, i loved os9. But i was wondering if the principal was the same because the two systems had completely different kernels.
OS9 was briliant, it was a great system to learn how touse a computer because everything felt real, the way that all of the folders open gave you a pleasant dilution that everything was real on that system. Everything appears it was, there was no command line making you feel that using the GUI was not an extra layer to 'pretty things up' . It's a great system to teach young people the basics of a computer operation, my little sister has real trouble understanding the concept of folders.OS9 easy
I know I already told u this, but I'm gonna say it again for those that read the comments. You'd said this would be an issue for 8.04. The current Wubi build, and the one that most people would download I think, is 9.04. I loaded LXDE onto my copy of Jaunty & had no issues with it.
Can Wubi do anything other than Ubuntu ? i love ubuntu i use it myself , but i recently went back to windows , for old times sake and i would really ENJOY this a lot if i could do this with Fedora or another Distro other than ubuntu , if not why ? i mean why would there only be one Distro ? there has to be some way around it to where you can get some other distro ?
Yes. Wubi basically installs Ubuntu as if it were a program in Windows, so to speak. It can be uninstalled the same way you would uninstall any Windows program.
How does this work ? what i mean is , like how does this work LOL , i mean so it does not reparation you're hard drive but just installs it , to where you can just select which OS you want , cause i am still not so sure , i am just double checking
Question: I heard you say in an earlier video that Orca "just didn't work, and froze up when you tried it". My question is; Does your computer have a SoundBlaster sound card? My system does, and I had similar problems, and then I tried running it using my Mobo's on-board sound, and it works a LOT better. It may be worth a try IF YOU have on-board sound.
Speech was fine for the most part. The magnifier, however, just didn't work right, and froze the system. The second i disabled the cross-hair cursor guides, it locked up.
Cause if they complete the goal selling lot pc's with windows they will get a bonus from microsoft. And we talk about big bonuses dude.Stores care about increasing profit,so selling windows and burying Linux is one-way...
i like linux alot, but compared to windows 7 every major os i know would fail to deliver the same amount of just experiencing the polished flow of operating ^^
sadly, kde 4 really failed the expectations, i really was looking forward to it after using kde 5.9 and 5.10 for quite some time.
for now 7 is beta, but i think when the time comes i will find ways to continue using it for free ^^
linux is #1 in server applications, but for (mobile) computing it still needs some time im afraid.
Well, let's see. Vista was a pile of crap, expensive, and in this economy the cheaper you can get the better. Ubuntu is free, but if people want an out of the box get up & go experience, perhaps Xandros Home ($99 compared to $200 for Vista Home Premium) may help.
I know that Vista is just a giant load of Microsoft crap, and i installed wubi and everything's fine except on ubuntu i cannot get online, do you think that my wireless card isn't compatible?
Well it depends on your card. I will tell you that Jaunty doesn't like my AirPort card (a Broadcomm of some kind). Try looking in the restricted drivers, and if that doesn't work, try a USB WiFi dongle.

@david520able I think you can download it or use a locally stored ISO but yeah that's right.

Forgive Me if I am wrong but does this work in similar way that you could boot OSX and OS9 on a mac from the same partition. I am stupid 12 year old
rollokb2 2 years ago
There used to be a Classic emulator. This has since vanished. I don't see being able to run OS 9 on the current Intel Macs.

You forgot to tell those to go to the LXDE website and add those two deb lines to the sources, then close & reload.
If not, you can't install LXDE.

If you search for "Wubi; Linuxjournalonline" they have a video that can help.

i been trying to download wubi but its taking like 189 hours to download?
wiimakevideosforlif3 2 years ago
:S 189? Tell me you are exaggerating. If your connection is taking that long, I'm surprised it hasn't fallen out. Mine took only 2 hours.

Stores can't sell Linux so why would they want to promote it? They can at least sell OSX and Windows on the shelf.

I let my mum use my Linux (Ubuntu) laptop and the first thing she asked me was "Where is the start button?".
user12119 2 years ago
Try U-Lite. I'm downloading it right now. It'll run on older hardware and the desktop, LXDE, looks & feels like Windows.
rml695 2 years ago
cool I will download and test it out, thanks.
