It was 1965. Sumati Morarji, head of the Scindia Steamship Line, gave Prabhupada free passage from Calcutta to America. He had some kind of heart attack on the way and was having to cook for himeslf on a small stove in his cabin. Where he landed in America it was freeeeezing and he only had traditional Indian clothes. All on his own. A little old man. So yeah. Old age here we come!!

Actually -- in keeping with the actual facts -- Srila Prabhupada was 69 years old when he arrived in America (first port of entry was Boston Harbor) on September 17, 1965. Yes .. he had less than ten dollars with him and a letter of introduction and sponsorship from an Indian (actually the husband was Indian and the wife was American) family in Butler, Pennsylvania. He stayed with them a few months and then went to New York to begin his real work of establishing the first Hare Krishna center.

For clarification Prabhupad came to america at the age of 70 years old with approximately 8$ and some of His translated books. He came because he was directed by His Guru. i say this not to quabble over details but to note that there is shakti, life giving power in following The Order of the spiritual master who is the living representative of God. @TheManolakis I am a devotee of the Lord, and am in full concordance with all your views. But please avoid saying "His translated books", it's "his translated books". Prabhupada is the greatest devotee of the Lord we have known, but still he is not Him. Prabhupada is the kind manifestation of Him, but still he is not Him. So avoid the capital usage. I would like to reiterate that I am not an atheist, I sincerely follow and accept all the views of Prabhupada on the Vedas :)
