@RossStorey95 The Mellberg one only counted as an own-goal because the referee thought the keeper got a touch on it. If it goes straight into your own goal from a throw-in it would be a corner kick. The ref got that one wrong and was slaughtered for it in the press and on football programs. The rule in FIFA is teh correct rule.

The goal stands if only the balls touches another player on the way into the goal. If the ball does not touch any player, the goal is disallowed.

Another interesting - and even less well known - ruling is that if an indirect freekick goes straight into your own goal, it is a corner kick to the opposition and NOT an own goal.

I sometimes wonder if refs would know what to do in those situations.
