  • I tawt I taw a cool video. Good goin' birds!

  • I love these birds. What I hate about them though, is the fact that they crap all over the place if you leave them to fly around. Really sucks. If they didn't do that they would be perfect pets.

  • lol it almost sounds as if someone else is saying it and the bird is making the sound

  • Omg that is so cute! I've been trying to get my 5 budgies to talk for over 2 years and I still can't get them to talk. Maybe I should put them in a different cage away from the flock then try lol. How did you get her to talk? ^-^

  • SO CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • 會說話的鸚鵡 I am from TAIWAN.

  • That's super cute! XD To my french speaker's ears at 0:04, 0:15 and 0:44, it says 'Bisou! Bisou!' while 'kissing' your finger, which is extraordinary cause 'bisou' actually means 'kiss' in French! ^^ But just after, at 0:16, it says something like 'Je t'aime pas!' which means 'I don't love you'! ^^ Sounds like he-she's confused over his-her feelings for you! :D

  • She loooooves you :)

  • What an amazing bird

  • you are right about the clear speech and the Amazons, like the double yellow headed amazon parrot, speak very clearly. there are similarities between how humans and parrots speak and makes us the only 2 "known" species with the ability to talk. and it has been established and acknowledged that parrots intelligence is that of a 3-6year old human, thus they can convey thought and tell us what they want, and some species like the Congo African Greys can construct their own sentences.

  • LOL its like you gave the little cutie cocain hahahahaha!

  • that is a robot.

  • Looks just like my bird! Yellow with a bit of blue!

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

What color is Duchess' cere? If its pink, Duchess is a Duke ;)

  • @rockybudgeboa nope, the boys have blue ceres and the girls have beige/pink ceres.

  • @dragonesswings So her Cere is brownish then? :) If its Pink, then she is a he and a Lutino. I have owned birds for over 20 years. I LOVE them all but I find the Lutinos and Recessive Pieds to be little clowns :)

  • Omg my Parakeet looks just like her. But he cant talk yet he is only 2 months

  • Excellent question. For one thing, birds don't have a larynx. So, it would seem that they're speech is brought about by constrained whistling. It's a wonder that they can 'talk' at all. Mind you, African grey parrots seem to be able to talk quite a bit louder and clearer. (BTW, if you haven't seen/heard Alex the (African Grey) Parrot talk yet, I highly recommend you search for 'Alex the Parrot' on Google. You'll be amazed at his past speech abilities and intelligence.)

  • @jvschouwen

hi seems like you know a little bit about birds. i want to buy one that is smart and can talk clearly not sharp wistling like that gray bird on petstar, what do you recommend?

  • @malakoz

I'm afraid I can't help with that. As far as I know, it's pretty much hit and miss as to which ones will end up talking. The only tips I could add is that: (1) when you do buy a budgie, have only one in the house--otherwise, they'll just chatter with each other; and (2) pay lots of attention to the bird, build its trust to the point where it will easily perch on you, and spend a lot of time over 2 or 3 weeks repeating the same 1-3 phrases to it over and over and over again.

  • @jvschouwen Birds actually do have a larnyx, they just don't use it for talking like humans do. They use a syrnix to create vocal sounds by moving flaps of skin that vibrate when air is moved past them.

  • wen parakeets talk they sound like they are whispering y is that

  • ROFLMAO XDDD ahahhaha cute!, i love how theres always exceptions on "what can talk" <3 i really love how much they jiggle and move around when they talk <3 :DDD

  • Bet she was french she kissed yur finger like the le skunk who chased that cat in the old cartoons .. Sorry just jokeing what a pretty bird she seems to have been a good friend to you

  • Cool, but its trying to hump you!

  • Oh, the never ending chattering to the finger is indeed adorable! My birds do it too lol

  • On crack?

  • My budgie was listening to this video. It's funny how even female budgie's talk like males! Nice pronounciation by the way!

  • AWWWWW! I tout I taw a puddy cat! I diid I diid taw a puddy tat! 2 CUTEEEE!

  • Her pronunciation is pretty good compared to other birds I've been acquainted with :)

  • @MikuMikuBeat

Yes, that's what really struck me about her. She was VERY close to me, very motivated, and had the talent to put together phrases quite clearly. If you really want to be amazed, Google "Alex the Parrot" and see what some African Grey parrots can do. BTW, Dr. Pepperburg (Alex's main trainer) was unable to get her first budgies to utter a word, let alone communicate (as Alex did). The parrot family is filled with incredibe creatures and, luckily, not all that unique.

  • BTW, here's an interesting fact that you wouldn't notice on your own. Did you notice Duchess speaks to my curled finger? Though she would 'talk' when in her cage (in her own time), it turned out that she was particular about speaking on command. I found that, for some reason, she would respond very positively to the curled finger whenever she perched on me. (I'm left to wonder if it had something to do with mating.)

  • @jvschouwen haha I was noticing that and wondered if that was part of a training aid or something similar. Or neither. Years ago, I had a cockatiel that would only sing complex tunes around strangers and most people that weren't me when I cupped my hand and put it over his head. Kind of accidentally discovered. He was self conscious I guess :)

  • @jvschouwen I noticed that my budgie talks to "things" mostly, and to get him talking, I need to lightly tap his beak with my fingernail and he'd chatter to that.

  • @jvschouwen My pudgie talks to me when i use my finger to play bite with her lo... like she chases my finger adn talks to it its funny =] she will also wobble around the house, bother the dogs and then goes back to her cage.

  • This is one of the best ive seen its so clear and is the double of tweety pie lol. How long does it take to train a parrot/budige to talk?

  • @DjBryanStirling

I agree with you w.r.t. clarity of speech. I was very fortunate to have had such a talented bird, albeit for a short time. (I still miss her.) To be clear, I cannot say anything about how long it takes to train a budgie--some don't learn to 'talk' at all, and some do, and at different rates. It's more a function of the bird's own attachment to you, its inherent talent, and its motivation. Duchess learned the puddy cat phrase in about a 1 1/2 weeks; new phrases took ave. 1 wk.

  • I love how he she it dives bomb to the side then uppercuts to their home.

  • WOW..That was adorable!

  • LMAOOO ...After my budgie heard this...she also started screamingg

  • aww i wana teach my budgie to talk, but for now i'll let him jam out to his music... fricken party bird lmao

  • her name should be tweety bird. cute!!!!

i did! idid! i tawt i taw a puddy cat

  • "Duchess a pretty bird.. a pretty cat!" :D lol

    beautiful bird!

  • u have a small cage

  • "Tweety" taw a puddy tat! Looks ALOT like MY Tweety.

  • So, ANY parrots can talk? I want to buy one.. is there any cheap species that can talk also?

  • I believe pretty much any bird in the parrot family is capable of talking to various degrees. The best I've seen are African Greys: they can actually be trained to communicate and not just mimick--Google "Alex the Parrot." Be aware, however, that not every such bird will learn to talk. This was my 5th budgie and the only one that talked. Mind you, the first three were kept together in the same cage.

  • Comment removed

  • @haxbox7 My budgie only cost about $10, cause the peson selling them wanted to sell them all off. He won't talk though. Damn it.

  • its sooo tiny he looks like a canary!!! Clever thing

  • She did have a lot of bright yellow. It's hard to see in the video, but she actually had very unusual yellow, white, and blue colouring.

  • Oh goodness, so cute!

  • hahaha, I deeed I deeed how cute!

  • sounds like a recorded voice to me :P

  • @MystiqueHorizon It is a recorded voice. The bird hears it and records the sounds of speech, and mimics it later!

  • My budgie isn't as lively as that. aaah.

  • isnt it a male? how comes yuou called it duchess? hes beautiful, hes the spitting image of my budgie, Roo. His cere is still pink after 9 months old, and eyes are still completely black, but because of his breed aparently the cere stays pink? is this right? i know mines a male because it humps everything lol. great bird tho!

  • they can ta;l with there mouth closed kid at the start idiot

  • Its not even talking, I cought so many images that the mouth was closed and supposibly the bird was talking.. Failed kid,

  • they dont talk from the mouth... they do that from throat.. :D that explains it right ?

  • @lzammyl3 it doesnt have to open its mouth to talk haha

  • She likes that finger!

  • wow so cool that part when he says I tawt I taw a puddy cat :D

    love the budgie:D beautiful color

  • WOOOOW ITS R2D2

  • is it talking it doesnt sound like it it sounds like a computer

  • I can assure you that Duchess is talking in this video. Keep in mind that it just a bird, and even an African Gray parrot sounds similar (though with a deeper voice). By the way, if you want to see a bird who does more than mimick--he actually communicates--search for Alex the African Gray parrot (Dr. Pepperburg). Alex passed away last year (I believe), but Dr. Pepperburg is training other African Grays... Truly amazing!

  • Beautiful!

  • Never heard a budgie talk before..:) I learned mine some tricks, that's all...

  • do they kiss naturally??

  • No, they don't. They are very good mimickers. I frequently gave her faux kisses and she picked up on it and had a general idea of what it meant. (She only ever kissed me.)

  • Is the bird actually talking?!

  • Absolutely. She started off as a tiny, shy baby that could barely find her food. But, she quickly became very close to me, carefully studying all the movements of my mouth (from my shoulder/chest) as I spoke.

  • I like how at 0:22 she puts her foot on your finger like she's shaking hands and quietly says "Hi!"

  • haha yes! and a few seconds later she does it again :) so cute

  • those little bitty brains hold so much intelligence! thanks for sharing I love to watch parakeets.

  • i deed i deed!! i taught i taw a puddy tat

  • @trxspirit ikr soo cute

  • That is so cute..quack...LOL.....It amazes me how these budgies can be so smart...!

  • Too cute for words...what a smart bird!!! My previous bird used to say "Hello Puddy!)

  • mine says quack

  • hahahahaha

    just quack

  • lol! :-D

  • awesome^^

  • Some do and some don't. You have to have only one--otherwise they chatter with each other. However, even if you have only one, whether or not they talk depends on how interested and trusting they are in you (see my previous comments). You have to build a trusting & close relationship with it. The budgie prior to Duchess never wanted to talk, though I could get it to do a few whistles. (Also, some like to play in various ways, and some are more restrained.)

  • She hung around near the house replying to my calls, but stayed in the trees. Since the trees were bare, we could clearly see her. After sunset we could no longer see her and she stopped replying (not unexpected). Sadly, that was the last we saw or heard of her. I doubt that she would have survived the cold winter night.

  • aww that happened to my baby budgie i was in tears i couldnt believe it

  • Sadly, Duchess flew out thru the front door several days ago. Never believe that your bird wouldn't try it--their instinct is much stronger than their attachment to you. (If you're really lucky, they may try to return.) Unfortunately for us, it was -3C/26F outside when she flew off--quite cold for a budgie, but possibly cold enough to prompt them into making a bee line back into the house. Whether she wouldn't or couldn't return, we don't know.

  • So sad. We had a cockatiel that flew out the door. Also very cold when it happened.

  • I love budgies. i want one so bad. but I thought only boy budgies could speak?

  • We also thought that only males talked, but that's not the case. You do have to be careful to only have one budgie (otherwise they just squawk at each other). Of the 5 budgies I've had since my childhood years, this was the only one that talked. The previous one mimicked whistles (e.g. a cat call), but never had any interest in talking. Duchess was very, very young when we brought her home--and I think that's the other secret.

  • We had to put her food at the bottom of her cage because she couldn't find it in the feeders. The early hint that she was very likely to talk was her sociability with me. As she got a little older and built up the trust, she would come to my shoulder and edge herself over so that her beak was right at my mouth, eagerly listening to what I was saying. I also tried to mimick the sound of a talking parrot--you know, the "polly wants a cracker" way of talking.

  • Hey Papa! Great Video! ;)

    -Jasmine-

  • very cute!!

  • Aw I love it she is so cute her voice is so clear My mickey was listening so close to her.I guess he liked it as much as i did I'm sharing your budgie for sure and a sub and a fav in my book 5/5*****

    that was great,

    thanks !

  • I'm gunna teach my budgie to say that. LOL
