  • You are everything and everyone. There is no "outside world", there is simply your one perception. This is to say that truly even I do not actually exist other than being a figment of your own consciousness... Pretty deep stuff

  • @pinpoint45. Not exactly. What he is getting at essentially is that 'human consciousness' (which only includes YOUR own conscious awareness) is a tool used to simulate individuality.

  • so human consciousness is individuality? the separation from the whole. and the dissolving of the human conscious is to become whole with everything? is that what he was getting across?

  • 6:30 mark wowww

  • Infinite anything is impossible in reality. The only thing in our universe capable of utilizing infinite anything or or making it practical is mathematics, that is why it is considered the perfect language, but all aspects mathematics aren't applicable to our universe and must always remain theoretical because nothing infinite is possible in our universe. That is why time must have had a beginning. If life is the result of the last event affecting the next event then it can be viewed as a chain

  • @sloppymess2 And thus as a chain every link is needed for the whole process to be maintained. To talk about infinite is to talk about a tendency we have to repeat one single process. There is only one thing going on here which is the cause and the end result of itself. But we tend to, ''hide'' our uncertainties, to forget that for every thing we label ''certain'' we need a background of uncertainty.

  • @sloppymess2

I dunno why mathemathics would be perfect language. The shit we have made up or thought has nothing to do with the point

  • @sloppymess2 You're discounting the idea that the Universe is simply an infinite math equation of immeasurable complexity.

  • feels nice to knw that there are more people who think this way then people who r oblivious to the real thing going on in life...i hate this box that i live in this box life that i have i want to live in a round house with my round mind!

  • yes, I love the recordings with no music I prefer them without, just him talking is great...

  • very nice..Mr. Watts puts my ideas into a nice flowing argument..thank you teacher

  • Holy crap. When he said "who are you?" I randomly picked the name Paul in my head. So crazy.

  • Once again Alan watts has made more sense that most love this dude cheers mate big love always in all ways

  • Allen loved weed and LSD and group sex and he was also a child molester

  • @MrTyroneNigga Your ignorance and lack of real knowledge - leading to false accusation about 'child molestation' is accentuated by your sloppy inability to even properly name the falsely accused - Allen may have been a child molester but Alan was a gentle genius with several children of his own. Why are you even watching this if that's what you think? Why not watch some rap which would seem to better fit your intellect.

  • @MarcVbytheSea <---- KKK cum guzzler

  • This is a great Alan Watts video... good job.

  • Where did you manage to find such beautiful footage?

  • Do loads of mushrooms or DMT, you get to see your role in this cosmic play first-hand.

  • wow. i just blew my fuckin mind!

  • Thank you for posting and thank you Alan. We miss you greatly; you left us much too early.

  • I've got to say ... it is very pleasant to listen to Watts talking without any over-powering music added but with these amazing visuals of flying through the puffy clouds!

  • Thank-you for that comment. Beautifully simple and correct!!

  • awesome video.

  • Awesome vid thank you : )

  • Excellent video! My contribution to the discussion: A philosopher knows that his own opinion cannot exist without opposing opinion, so, therefore, he never argues too strenuously. Thank you, Alan!

  • @suninmoon4601 Thank-you for that comment. Beautifully simple and correct!!

  • thank you

  • Beautiful! :)

  • What a brilliant video

  • This had me entranced with eyes locked on the screen. First time I've felt like smokin da ganja in a looong time LOL

The cat seemed to like it too. Maybe the birds sounded like lunch?

  • this has given me alot to think about today.

your vids are always interesting and different.

after watching them, i think about what was said for days.

    thanks spartakitty

  • I believe it's true, thanks for sharing.

  • Alan Watts is awesome, he makes me smile so much, I kinda consider him a friend I'll never meet, but a friend none the same! :-)

  • @TheSpartacat - I know exactly what you mean as I too see him as a close friend that articulates the indescribable thoughts that lurk in the mind!

  • @mugikuyu The Truth is the only friend you will ever have and it is right here and now!

  • @TheSpartacat

It's because of where he's speaking from.

    ;-)

  • @TheSpartacat Ironically, this is how some Christians feel about Jesus. ( worry not, i am guilty of this too)

  • @TheSpartacat I have felt the exact feeling - I told his son Mark that once on the phone, but I'd never seen anyone else mention it except you! To me he is the most beautiful mind ever......

  • @TheSpartacat He's not a friend you'll never meet, he is you.

  • @TheSpartacat a very true friend indeed! The greatest philosophical mind of our time.

  • @TheSpartacat he's you muthafuckaa

  • Ronan!!!!

"r-Itsh amaayyyyyr-shin how you shpeak roight to my haaaart"

    (sorry, couldnt resist...)

Never heard of Rachel Yamagata before, really like it, thanks x

  • I can't find the second part of your posting, is there one? Is YT being cantankerous again? I totally agree with you, it IS completely relative, and a person can move up and down that scale of perception many times in their life.

"I don't know" is a very very great place to start, it offers a level of detachment that helps you look at something more clearly, but as I said elsewhere in the comments, it has other advantages sometimes...

  • I don't know whether to feel big or small.

  • Oooh, well if you feel either big or small, then it's only the ego's perception or it's method of reinforcing itself... If you feel the cosmos or infinity inside then "big and small become inconsequential", because even 'big' is miniscule to that which is infinite!!! LOL

  • Good answer. Now I feel medium-sized ;)

  • @TheSpartacat so do you think the infinite really exists and the universe is infinite?

  • @TheSpartacat Infinite?!?!?!...God what the hell is infinite!!!Im going cray trying to understand the concept it's just mind blowing!!!!!

  • @inaworldwithinaworld infinite is what is happening right now, in this present moment. the future consists of our anticipations and the past consists of our memories. They are merely a creation of our mind, all that really is, is right now. Time is the flow of thought, it is not linear, although it seems to be because of our illusions of past and future. The moment you are conscious in is infinite. its a hard concept to understand until you use meditation, psychedelics or other methods to learn

  • @AIexKidd To the cosmos, you are smaller than a gnat. To a dog, you are a master. To a flea, you are practically a god. Big and small are relative.

  • @AIexKidd just feel.

  • I was just thinking of that song! :) lol! I was thinking of the Neil Diamond version!

  • I didn't know Neil Diamond HAD a version!!! I've always been a Joni Mitchell Both Sides Now-er.... love how her voice combines fragillity and strength... and the version she does when older is dripping with emotion that the 1970 one doesn't have

    1970: watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sg

    2000: watch?v=tKQSlH-LLTQ

One of my fave songs, means a lot to me :-)

  • It's a rarity that a cover will ever beat the original, in my opinion. (Except anything from boyzone-they are JUST THAT GOOD! ;p lol!) There seems to be more life experience in the 2000 version. God! Don't you just love it when a singer "understands" the song??? It's so refreshing to the absolute dribble that's out there right now. Her voice is devine. That made me smile and cry. :) Thank you!!!! Mudges! x

  • WOW, the 2000 version is incredible!

Didn't think she could improve on her original.

One of my all time favorites also.

  • So perfect. :)

    We just are...

I'm pimpin for a Wednesday sometime in August! ;p

  • ROFLMAO... maybe yes, maybe no... maybe I'll flip it to a Thursday just to confuse ya! :-)

  • Very nice... Thank you.

  • :-) Thank you for cloudbusting with me!

  • We actually perceive visually at a rate that is an order of magnitude faster than we can or do process consciously. As for the need for negative, without dark, we never can perceive the light and vice versa. Contrast is all. Where we can run into trouble is when the dark becomes ones fixation.

Kitten, you do post some tasty tid bits!!!

  • It seems to me that the 'mind' is the rate of consciousness we tend to insist upon operating withn. And minds are slow, clunky, having to work things methodically, with only a pinprick of scope..... but theres another consciousness that goes largely ignored- much more vast. It's the consciousness that provides solutions when we 'sleep on it'. The moment I say "I don't know" and stop using my mind to THINK of a solution- is the moment a solution rushes in for me- fully formed. works a treat!

  • I suppose it's what they call 'divine inspiration' because it doesn't come from any experience or thought out creation in our minds... but everyone can do it... i think the trick is to let go, create the vacumn of "I don't know" and something will come and occupy it! Works like clockwork for me anyway- some of my best ideas I can't take any credit for, i didnt labour over them, i just shut up for a minute! ;-)

Contrast IS all, & perception- where your situation/ experience lies between the two

  • @TheSpartacat I know how THAT goes! Since I was a child I have been relying on my sub/unconscious mind and it will lay upon me insanely accurate assessments and inspirations from the stars. Problem is, it is a subtle thing and easily overlooked. I always regret not following it's inputs.

As to the "minds are slow, clunky, having to work things methodically, with only a pinprick of scope" idea, only on the surface dear kitten, only on the surface. Deep down? Liquid lightning!

  • Yes, liquid lightning indeed- but isnt it strange how few get down to that murky illuminating level? I'm a deep-mind diver... other ppl just call it 'eccentric'... pah fools!!! LOL

  • I hate to go here, but I truly think it is something fairly unique to the Irish. We are as resistant to psychotherapy as you can find and I have come to conclude this stems from our native tendency to be far more in touch with our sub/unconscious minds. This doesn't make us any better or worse than other peoples, it is a trade off. We get the "edge" with brilliant insights, but we pay for it with sometimes dark moods and murked up conflicted hearts. And damn do we like to party LMFAO!!!

  • miss! seeing those clouds. sry....not the point, i know. still, it was better than dreams, b/c you were awake but far away at the same time. .....that is, cloud watching/self escaping/ego-less for a 'time'.

will have to listen w/o watching.

  • :) You see people complain about clouds, forgetting they can be really beautiful.
