@kikiaura No. I think the trick is, that this "mouse" is going through this maze slowly at first to "learn" how the maze looks like. After that, it saved the plan of the map and knew where to go. That's really awesome. It won't need remote controll, it's doing this all by itself.

@ld0ne The time is the fastest run from the start to the centre(the large open square in the middle of the maze) once it has gathered enough information about the location of the walls it can calculate the fastest way from start to end.

The intended track appears to be from corner to center, or vice versa, or maybe a full circuit. What's great about this robot is that once it slowly traced out each path and figured out the layout of the maze, it calculated the fastest route, learned the straightaways where it could apply full speed, and even knew when it could apply smooth diagonal movements instead of oscillating between x and y directional travel. It did all this pretty flawlessly, too (except for the BANG! at 2:26.. lol)

Actually, I don't think it is a corner to corner maze. Instead, the robot seems to be trying to get to box in the middle. Hahaha, but I couldn't figure out what it was doing for the first part of the video. Thanks for the explanation! :)
