Had a mad crush on Pat Davis when I was 13.Always love that flower on the side of her hair.I cut out a page clipping of her from Right On magazine and hung it up on my bedroom wall back then.
Awesome!! Pat was of course one of my fav dancers....I looked forward EVERY week seeing what new moves she had....2:30 my fav move. Ooooh how I miss these days.
Pat Davis also danced on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" her tenure on Bandstand was not as long as Soul Train, but yes, Pat Davis also did her thing on Bandstand from 1973-1974.
She was the best femail dancer ever on soul train. Two of her best clips are Curtis Mayfields Get Down Soul Train Line and Aretha Franklin's Rock Steady Soul Train line. She starts both lines off proper.
Pat Davis was the very first lady I had a crush on, from Soul Train to right on Magazine, Jody Watley said that Pat was an Inspiration, she set the standard for Jody, Niecy Payne, Rosie Perez after her no Question.
This past weekend I had a pre-50th birthday party and my younger sister dressed like Pat Davis Awesome!
She was the first " Face of Soul Train". She set the standard for all the women that became the "It" girl if the show. Jody, Rosie, and the rest were just following in her footsteps. Thanks for the post.
I grew up in that era watching Soul Train every Saturday morning and Pat Davis was "the" most popular female dancer on Soul Train in the 70's. Her style was different from everybody else. Her trademark of wearing a flower in her hair which represented Billie Holliday's style and her neck rolling, along with her dance moves, different gimmicks, and her outfits made her unique. Everybody looked forward to watching her. She was the highlight out of all the dancers, hands down....
Now this is dancing! Pat had command of so many styles, and each one was sexier than the last. And as tropicalpancake commented below, she kept it classy. I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and learn those moves!
Back in the day, i loved watching Pat Davis aka the Butterfly on Soul Train! I read about her in "Right On!" mag. I rmbr reading the beautiful glittery butterfly in her hair wz a Christmas ornament. How clever, I thought! Someone told me she hd a huge music career in Japan! Is tht true? It is my understanding she wz raised in Crenshaw area of Los Angeles and I believe attended Crenshaw High! Wht is she doing these days? ST new owners should do reunion show on Centric! ST is now 40 yrs old, rt?
lyslinger that was tight!!! I used to watch soul train every sat and wish i was there. Pat was my favorite I always wanted to see what she would be wearing and what new dance moves she would be doing
I us to love to watch her on Soul Train...she was one of my FAVS...I tried to imitate her every move...THA GIRL WAS BAD and I loved to watch her partner too...he was bad too
I never knew who she was until just now, but used to see her and go WOW! She can dance! I thought Damita Jo and Jody Watley were bad, but SHE was cold! I think she could take Damita!
What I liked best about Pat was you never knew what to expect from week to week. She always kept you guessing. She could be poppin', locking and doing the robot with her unique facial expressions, she could be very formal, she could be the ultimate diva, a funky little old lady, or just chilling with the "Butterfly Girls" Lisa, Fawn and Freddie or as in last week's BOST she could be sporting her baby bottle and lollipop! Pat Davis is definitely one of a kind.
i wonderd who those other girls were. i saw them on a few best of episodes and they really stood out. real fly girls and waaay ahead of their time as far as their vibe and the way they dressed. i actually looked for them more than pat. were they sisters?
I loved Pat above all the dancers. She was pretty, had style, originality and could dance her butt off!!!

This needs a more uptempo song. This girl didn't stop moving once she came thru Soul Train's entrance. Music has to be able to keep up with her
