  • The last comment below has to be the most bloated, conceited comment on here so far. Way to go xDXPxJOEx456x1. You win the asshole award for comparing yourself to one of the best death metal guitarists ever.

  • trey reminds me alot of myself and altars of madness is by far my favorite death metal album ever

  • chocolate milk

  • Trey the posers! damn i hate this bands they can just go fuck off after blessed are the sick! who they think they are yeah we are the best ,ego suffering at the highest level! this band is soo overrated what a joke they are, they is fag and so his david shitcent

  • Oh, and I should mention Death Strike/Master.

  • Trey = my favorite redneck of all time

  • @Beholdthesharktopus yea dude i agree, its so hard to fins old school death metal shows now, its all this bullshit hardcore and other stuff, so thats why its up to the people who listen to death metal to start death metal bands and still listen and buy old school death metal merchandise.

  • Covenant is my favourite Morbid Angel album, but Blessed is fucking KILLER too!

  • Trey is a fuckin beast, i don't give a shit what anybody says. He is my favorite guitarist along with Chuck Schuldiner.

  • Why is it so hard to believe that Trey is influenced by Mozart? Morbid Angel is one of my favorite bands but I like Mozart, Antonin Dvorak and Rimsky-Korsakov. No matter how brutal, sludgy or furious Morbid Angel music is it always has some sort of dark grace about it.

  • Yeah in the 90's they had Morbid Angel touring with Bolt Thrower. Now we get Oceano with Atilla. Ain't my generation great?

  • I wanna get baked with this guy.

  • motezart

  • higher than a kite haha

  • Dude, I have met the second coming of Trey Azagthoth. Dead seriously.

    Edit: Dude* seriously

  • Dude, I have met the second coming of Trey Azagthoth. Dead seriously.

  • maybe I'd listen to Mozart if there was no Morbid Angel but its XXI century and I need no past masters. And yeah... to im the 50000th wiewer, that's cool :]

  • Blessed is a good album with great songs. unfortunately the production is too clean, and the midi piano outro is tacky. the kick drum sounds like a type-writer..... there's no balls behind it. their "Thy Kingdom Come" demo is the best sounding recording they ever did.

  • @Coldacre and? who are you ?

  • @ADEZK - I'm George Emmanuel the 2nd

  • @Coldacre you wish hah xD

  • @Coldacre Totally agree.

  • so, he doesnt sound like a demon... shame

  • I met trey in philly at the troc and pete and eric. always wanted to meet david though.

  • I had no idea he sounded like that when he talked. Awesome musician and songwriter!!

  • Haha, I love the way he talks, compared to the way he writes(see the liner notes for Altars of madness).

  • screw Metallica, it's way overrated

  • i really want his X-Core V. idk where to find it, but when i first saw Trey's custom Dean, i fell in love with it. lol it'd be great to play on the same guitar my biggest influence plays on

  • @SideWays8Productions Damn dude its 2010 and the x-core STILL hasn't come out!I want that X-core Fucking bad

  • @GJRM18 i know, right?!?! its just as good as the schuldiner tribute! ughhh they need to mass produce that gift from satan!

  • this interview is in 91 covenant is 93

  • what album is he talking about in the beginning, Covenant?

  • BatS

  • I think he's talking about Blessed are the sick.

  • blessed..he talks about the piano and desolete ways

  • J.S. Bach all the way

  • Morbid Angel will never compare

  • Bach is awesome. Modesst Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain is great too.

  • did trey have his tattoo removed as it seems to be missing from pics nowdays

  • no just faded he hasnt touched it up as he pbly doent give 2 shits

  • morbid angel is fucking amazing

  • "Our rhythms they say something there like alive there not just something heavy, there not something fast, there not something noisy there like basically Mozart would right cello pieces or violin pieces it just about that circle movement and groove or whatever the FUCK" love that bit

  • I agree morbid does have more feeling

  • I think Trey was right; MA had feel to the music. Sure, it was heavy as fuck and badass, but it all mish-mashed together. I also like the songs "Desolate Ways" and "In Remembrance" because it truly does have atmosphere to it.

Probably the best song on the album, in my opinion, was Brainstorm...fuckin' kickass!

  • yeah totally..there instrumentals are great..the fact that Trey admires Mozart is itself says enough!

  • BEST BAND EVER

  • i love Mozart AND Morbid Angel :)

  • I love MA, but this reminds me so much Spinal Tap, "MA's music is like Mozart's music bla bla...." ...all we need now is to see his "Trade Mark Guitar Solos".... so funny makes my day

  • Who gives a shit what his voice sounds like? His guitar and lyrics do all the talking.

  • it all contributed to the sound. MORBID ANGEL rules all over.

  • Harvey: Mayhem, too.

  • man...hes hipped out, sounds funny as hell...just talkin smooth like, glad he called out the scene of metal back then, either you bought metallica , or somehing more brutal, faster, and far less popular

  • Morbid Angel paid their dues and then some, they deserve as much credit as possible.

  • Dont forget Napalm Death

  • I think hes talking about Blessed Are The Sick...

  • Don't forget Obituary!

  • is he insulting metallica

  • no he is simply stating a fact. The tables have turned though, people by morbid angel albums but overlook bands like goatwhore.

but at the time they were trying to scratch out a spot for themselves.. and they were simply underground and way fucking extreme compared to bands like metallica.

  • About the BC RICH endorsement, he ought to get a ironbird signature nowdays! fuckin awsome guitar

  • Badass dude right here. What online shit u playing now Trey??? Actually put that fuckin keyboard and mouse down and give me the new album first. Then I will own u.

  • wow! its so cool seeing trey so young, like back in the glory days...I almost look upon him as if hes some kind of young prodigy.

  • if you listen to somebody enough, they are (whether you're conscious of it or not) an influence on the music you make. I don't think Trey's trying to impress any of you youtube faggots by mentioning Mozart- maybe (just maybe) he just really likes Mozart's music.

  • the genrer tecnical death metal profs that ther are ppl who lisen to death metal and clasic music

  • what he's talking about at 3:05 and on is called "Harmonic Rhythm". Meaning, WHEN the chords change. It can make or break a song. SO, I agree with him when he says that.

BUT, anything beyond that to imply that mozart has any part in the writing, is a little far-fetched.

  • Mozart was a huge influence in his songwriting. But you can't probably hear it..

  • Like Trey's inability to play the same pattern the same way twice in a row? Like that? You are going to have to specify. I am not bagging on Trey... but to say that Mozart influences his songwriting takes more than simply his props in the liner notes, humble apologies...

  • maybe you should listen more closely

  • Sorry, but I'm spanish and I didn't understand what he said about animal rights, can some person say what dd he say?

  • i bought this and the zine back bin 94

  • lol holygrams of demons, fucking douche

  • You are a douche. Yep!!!!!! That is very true, fuck face. It will NEVER change. Go listen to your own feces and cut yourself, assy!!!!!!

  • fuck off 4 life, assy.

  • Except for the dudespeak, brilliant man, brilliant songwriter, though Morbid Angel has began to suck as of late. How the mighty have fallen.

  • From the metal forums I'm guessing? I would agree on Morbid Angel; as well as the majority of recent death and black metal.

  • Then we are in agreement on something, but there are a few standouts in the recent era. Excuse my ignorance, but which metal forums?

  • The metal forums at the American Nihilist Underground Society.

  • Ah, damn my ignorance. I read the site but I've never frequented the forum.

  • The fault is mine, my question was rather vague considering that "metal forums" could relate to thousands of websites. I made my assumptions based on the Demilich and Crimson Massacre videos you had favorited.

  • how come everyone likes mettalica? they suck.

megadeth is so much better than them.

  • i like both.

  • to bad megadeth is much better than metallica

  • To bad megadeth is'nt much better than metallica....

  • I'm tired of people comparing Death and Morbid Angel. They are sooooo diffrent. It's just silly. You can't really say wich guitarist is the best or whatever.

  • Death sucks?! And Morbid Angel doesn't......

    They both rule.

  • u sir r an idiot

  • word. morbid angel is infinitely superior.

  • Trey is immortal, I mean, just the flutes at the end of ''Blessed are the Sick/Leading the Rats'' is perfect you know, PERFECT! It gives that sick feeling you know, like there is something like the ancient ones, lurking somewhere :P I don't know wtf xD but it's fucking great music.

  • woaw how he explains their ritems hes right for his band their ritems are good man

but so are the riffs of necrophagist and nile

i know many bands with a perfect riff where the feelings speaks its awesome metal is so the best and true genre it isn't just music its a way of live

  • lol how he explains his style its awesome

morbid angel your a fucking good band.

  • Morbid Angel is great. They have alot of talent.

  • Trey and Chuck are/were both masters but vastly different styles. No competition just beauty, brutality and complete passion in their work.

  • god

  • I filmed this for my old videozine called Decaying Visions after thheir gig at World's Stage in NY.

  • "Trey Azagthoth is the Van Halen of Death Metal"

but chuck schuldiner is the God of death metal ;)

  • well said salad besides megadeth chuck sang and played lead at the same time MY FAVORITE ALBUM IS EVERY ALBUM BY DEATH ESPECIALLY HUMAN

  • well said salad besides megadeth chuck sang and played lead at the same time MY FAVORITE ALBUM IS EVERY ALBUM BY DEATH ESPECIALLY HUMAN

  • I agree, to an extent. But I think it's easy to deify the works of someone who is no more. Of course, Schuldiner's playing style is something that defies accurate description. But would people still place him above Trey Azagthoth if Chuck were still alive? I would be interested in getting some input on this question, as it has boggled me for some time now.

  • Chuck's style was just getting going when he died. If he had continued to develop the lightning he bottled on The Sound of Perseverance and The Fragile Art of Existence, he would be better than Trey. But I think Trey is better.

  • i just don't think you can compare Death & Morbid Angel. both awesome death metal bands, but still different from each other

  • ta gueule asti de tappete Morbid angel cest dla grosse marde de chat thats it thats all

  • George Emmanuel the Third. One of the most underrated guitarists ever-along with Rutan.

  • Yep, GMEIII. Wait, do I know you Sludgy?

  • hmmm... chocolate milk... now i know where he gets all his energy.

Trey Azagthoth is the Van Halen of Death Metal

    Cheers!!!

  • lol regular milk> chocolate milk. Seriosly Morbid Angel is fuckin awesome

  • He sounds young in here.

  • Music genius...\m/

  • i like chocolate milk too

  • about how old was he at this time?

  • i like morbid angel

  • 5th

  • hahhahaha hes such a nerd! hes drinking a jug of chocklit milk.! love that guitar tho

  • stfu, milk is lovely

  • He is HOT here! Metal guys are the sexiest.

  • Thank you :)

  • uh.. i doubt you are him... 'him'.

  • Not saying that I am him, but I am a metal guy. Check out my video Reconcile if you dont believe me :)

  • Hey guys check out this cover of Morbid Angels Rapture that we did a few weeks back. Let us know what you think.

    Its

Repugnant Inebriation - Rapture (Morbid Angel's cover)

    all comments very welcome

  • Wow, this is actually a great interview.

Trey actually sounds like a very articulate person here. Anyway, I've dug MA's music for years, and it still ranks highly with me.

Damn Ibanez for not giving him a real custom model. I wonder if Trey still endorses them. He's probably messin' with their 8 string... but that thing's supposed to go out of production in the near future, I think. Fuck, I want one!!!

  • I spoke to trey about this. He has been offered a custom model, by many guitar brands actually. He just doesn't want to use one.

  • Domination and Formula's just kick my fucking ASS. they invented the DROP haha. where you hold one chord and it just sounds like its falling haha

  • his real name is emmanuel or someshit.

Formula's was written with ancient persian

  • Why don't you save your words for topics you know about? The first death metal bands were already out playing in the early 80s, before they would have even had a chance to be influenced by Metallica or Slayer. The influences of the first death metal bands were the same as the influences of Metallica and Slayer, and yeah, they did take it to the next level.

  • In Morbid Angel's case, they were influenced by Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Possessed, Napalm Death, Van Halen (for the solos) and Judas Priest, etc. And some punk bands maybe.

What is Trey Saying about BC Rich ??

  • Blessed is probably my 2nd least favourite Morbid Angel album, only before Domination.

    Order of Favourite albums:

    Covenant

Heretic (THAT'S RIGHT MOTHER FUCKERS! GIVE IT A CHANCE AND REALLY LISTEN TO THE SONGS AND THE RIFFS .. FUCKING BRILLIANT!!!)

    Altars

    Formulas

    Gateways

    Entangled

    Blessed

    Domination

  • no fuckin altars is the sickest death metal cd ever

  • Blessed are the sick will never be topped unfortunately

  • 100% agree

  • some dude once told me MA are satanists that true?i dont think so...

  • Who Gives A Mother Fuck???

  • lol.....does it matter?

most heavy metal bands are either pagan, or dont even give a damn about religion in general.

Even if they are satanist, dont be shocked, satanists are some of the nicest and best people youll ever meet.

  • Did you know all the stuff they write about (Shub Niggura, Azagthoth, Absu, Necronomicon) is actually fiction written by an author called H.P. Lovecraft?

  • Additions of Lovecraft's writing, actually. Lovecraft and others in his circle wrote of The Ancient Ones and the Cthulthu Cycle, etc. I love Lovecraft's stories, but Trey was never into them apparently.

  • Death was influneced by Metallica. Chuck said that Kill 'Em All was one of his favorite albums of all time.

  • thanks for this video, it's always nice to here the words of someone that you've heard play for fucking ever.

  • "he doesn't accept their existence"

    hahaahha

    fuckin hilarious!

    that should be a song!

  • Trey is soooooooooo fucked up

  • What do expect, they live in Florida. Hot weather and cocaine made death metal.

  • yeah he can't stop talking like if he's wired or something

  • is he drinking chocolate milk? yeah!

  • Agreed Trey!!!...Blessed was fucking sick!!!

  • Cool Man! Thanks for the post.

  • Used to live next door to these guys before the Altars album in 1987-1988. I've seen Butch the pitbull brutally thrash a few cats back then. Didnt seem as brutal as watching the birth of death metal in thier basement!

  • fuckin 1991 holy shit, thats when i was liveing in the warlock trailer park, and i use to come over to port richy all the time my ant lived there, and we all hung out at ARCHES LOUNG DO YOU REMEMBER THAT FUCKIN BAR TREY

  • Chuck Schuldiner (Death) & Trey Azagthoth are the best guitar players and song writers around (Obviously I know Chuck isn't alive)

  • does anyone know what mozart trey listens to? id love to hear some of the stuff he likes.

  • Hi there. I can only say from what he says in this video as I don't know much about the band. He mentions Mozart's operas, which I agree are among the (if not simply THE) best music Mozart ever composed. 'Don Giovanni' and 'The Marriage of Figaro' are most definitely Mozart's best 2 operas. In that order, in my opinion.

  • Ahhh, but also the Requiem as far as more famous works go. There is much Mozart to listen to, but I would imagine that the more intricate and fast works are the preference here. This interview is from 91 though, things change. Plenty of Portishead at his MySpace page;)

  • You mean grammar ?

  • i love morbid angel but if it wasnt for old metallica

they wouldnt be around its called influence

  • Thats complete bullshit, if you knew anything about Morbid Angel you'd know thats a stupid comment. Death metal comes from bands like Venom,Motorhead,Celtic Frost,Mercyful Fate, the SAME bands that influenced Metallica, so if anything they share influences. M.A have been going nearly as long as Metallica so there you go.

  • Yeah, I have to agree with Upthe on that one. Much of this comes just from within. Influence is one thing, but "old Metallica" as the influence for MA? WTF? Not even close, and not even old enough. Sometimes it's just stripping what one likes from music and building something entirely different with those parts.

  • They were more influenced by Slayer and Possessed. I can't think of one Death Metal band influenced by Metallica.

  • in an interview with Deicide, Brian or Eric, said they spotted Steve in high school because he had a Metallica back patch, so thats how they got to know him. i believe thats correct, someone correct me if im wrong

  • So? That doesn't mean they were musically influenced by them.

  • @Luffyone wtf are you talking about.almost every metal band from all sub-genres are influenced by metallicas first 3 albums lol

  • @louiscfc93 You don't have a clue. Death Metal bands like Morbid Angel have their roots in Slayer, Possessed, Venom and Hellhammer. Slayer were every bit as influential as Metallica.

  • @enterthesleep i didnt mention anything other than almost every metal band has been influenced by metallicas first 3 albums

  • @enterthesleep Thank you. Thrash and Death Metal have been seperate since the beginning. Death Metal has been around for a lot longer than people think. Morbid Angel has existed since '86!

  • @bjm355 u mean '84 =D

  • @xxxblucoxxx R U shure? They kinda spawned from other bands, but who was in there in '84? What was the name then??
