no, really - back in the early 90's, we just waited for videos like this to play on MTV during the "alternative hour" which was I think between 12 and 2am Sunday morning. So seeing a band that you liked (died over) was not very easy... and then, there was NO INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!

the whole point was that when MTV started up, punk bands like the Mats refused to whore themselves (plus they were too busy getting rat-arsed everywhere they went), but by this point, Paul wanted to switch gears towards writing (and went sober) and the band didn't make it. So this record is kind of the turning point. I love all of their stuff...

Okay this video is a good indication why Westerberg hated videos. If the retarded director kept the BW images without the shadow crap or the strange sort of screen print like color bullshit or the HORSES WTF? it looks like 1983 but done in 1990? or 91?... . but I really like how Paul is not having any part of the director's ego-manical artistic bullshit. Paul shows his obvious reluctance to participate. FYI, the whole album just sounds better to me with every passing year. BEST BAND EVER.

It's amazing to me how overlooked this band is. I don't think anyone under 30 even knows who they are. There is no one around today that even comes close to the songwriting ability of Paul.This music is as close to perfect as it gets.

However I would like to think that once they were introduced to the Replacements they would have an appreciation for them. when my oldest son was like 2 years old we used to listen to this cassette, this was the first song he sang often- I always liked the hook . Paul is such great writer and I hold dear memories as his lyrics and sound were a background to a time in my life. The band is great too. Real guys! i used to be struck by the incredible sadness of this tune. it used to make me cry. it is one of those deeply sympathetic tunes that reminds you that you need a shoulder to cry on and gives you that shoulder, like Rod Stewarts achingly gorgeous "Handbags and Gladrags." The Replacements are the best band ever. This song was a real attempt, it seems, to find an audience on MTV and not just show speakers (left of the dial) or other scathing finger-pointing at MTV that backfired. Paul's hair and the band's are styled and I'm not sure why Paul gets guttural and harsh with his voice?

@DetroitSquirreL sad, too, that Paul isn't as easy to find anymore. it seems like he has semi-retired, or else i am not keeping up on his career like i should. but i never see him on tv anymore, and i never see him listed at venues performing. his solo work got more and more introspective, and some of it was so soft. maybe he is a full-time dad now. i miss him.
