Aside from her talent and virtuosity, Damrau's performances are utterly joyful, which is why she's so exhilarating for us to watch and listen to! Diana is a total phenom. As another commentator (on her Magic Flute video) wrote, "So macht Oper Spass!" (transl.: Done this way, opera is FUN!) You betcha!
Wow. Miss Damrau seems to combine the exuberance of Cecilia Bartoli with the range of Mady Mesple, the musicality of Lucia Popp with the theatricality of Natalie Dessay. At last I have found a contemporary diva to worship!
Really wonderful. A timbre to her voice that rings like a bell all the way up to the very top notes she is singing. Also, amazing control during the runs. She is excellent - the best Coloratura at the moment without a doubt.
Sin lugar a dudas la mejor soprano de coloratura que existe hoy, bellisimo timbre, vibrato maravilloso, color parejo en los tres registros, los sobreagudos brillantes, Larga vida a la Damrau!!!!!
That is her actual natural vibrato. Actually, a fast vibrato is an extremely common characteristic of coloratura voices due to the nature of how their vocal chords work.
I could get into all the pedagogical stuff but it is irrelevant considering this comment is 2 months old. LOL
yeah but there is a difference ... american idol is for pop singers and not for opera singers! therfore i don't understand why paul potz won this thing in the uk...ok i'm happy for him but i think every other tenor could have sang nessun dorma the same he did or better!
but from the other side many opera singers can't belt that good ('the pop/rock technique')
@abraxas101 he won because he sings POP opera and the record producers knew his story would be appealing to the working classes because he ´followed his dream..... its simple
Is it possible that a singer has such a wide range?? She is like a new Callas. Has a superb Mezzo range, just like a high tessitura suitable for soprano ranges!
She is the best coloratura soprano from Caterina Cavalieri up to now..... Mozart and Salieri wrote their music thinking that one day Diana would sing it!!!!
I just discovered Diana Damrau from the radio yesterday for the very first time. The sound of her voice already ranks her one of my four favourite singers. Wowsers! PS: If you like her, try - Nancy Argenta and Edit Karoly.
Yes, I agree with you! I also like very much Nancy Argenta, her Despina is flawless! And I've also recently discovered her recording of Purcell songs. Wonderful! Damrau is as far as I know, the best KOnstanze! And she is so great in this salieri operas!
This is not a soprano. This is not human. Diana is a God in earth. A soprano sings, Diana doent's sing, she goes deeper. Is this Diana Damrau real, or am I dreaming? My Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!
Diana needs to make more DVDs so we can watch this wonderful gifted musical genius while she sings. She is very much one that is noticed by musicians who are in love with all the aspects of musical interpretation and who really enjoy this brilliant voice,is crystal clear tonality and presentation Brava Diana
Hey CJ! ^^ Where did you get these vids??? I could download the 'Der Hölle Rache' from EMI's official web, but I hadn't seen this one and and the Europa's one either! Kisses
So 6:57 "Now I'm awake" - I should say so, LOL

Not ideal, but competent nonetheless. The voice is vapid in my opinion, but that's fine for Salieri.

Her intense vibrating sounds like she's trilling every note she hits. I guess. I don't really like that.

You're right. It's quite ridiculous and many singers today do that. Control, please.

lokitrix 3 years ago
I don't think. Bartoli is a mezzo... so I think not.
silvr94 3 years ago
Actually, Bartoli includes in her recording both low things and soprano recordings, as high as D6

Bartoli goes as high as E6 (in Haydn's 'Al tuo seno fortunato'). There are both live and studio recordings on Youtube.
