I had to find this video on here. Even though I haven't seen or heard this in (20+) years, and haven't had Tootsie Rolls anytime recently, this song has been stuck in my head the last three days. Not sure what causes weird stuff like that. Usually it's the theme song to Darkwing Duck...
I remember this catchy jingle from when I was a child, but was also one of my favorites even to this very day. However, is it weird to want to add this jingle to my iPod Touch or is it just me? Still, you've gotta appreciate the nostalgia in this one. For somebody with an actively open imagination, I couldn't tell you how much I appreciate this commercial. Just sayin'!
I hate tootsie roll but I always loved this commercial and jingle, yeah I can't tell you the preamble of the U.S. by memory or Hamlet's "to be or not to be" speech but oh yeah I can sing this jingle by heart. :)
Whats scary is one morning I woke up with this song stuck in my head. This happened recently. I had no idea that this commercial was from 1977. I thought that it was the late 80s, since I was born in 1984. I probably remember seeing this at a store called Kids R Us.
This commercial has some impact on the kids in the 70s & 80s it's positive, cheerful,& enlightening. After 2 decades of airing on saturday mornings between cartoons the song seem to be stuck in our heads.
The Tootsie company basically created the two greatest and more unforgettable commercials in tv history: This and the Tootsie Pop "How Many Licks" one.
"tootsie roll I think I'm in love with you"... Man, that really takes me back. My bestie and I were just talking about this commercial the other day. I'm soooo going to post this on facebook! thanks so much for the video.
Thank you for a great quality commercial classic rewind. This is absolutely my favorite one of all time. Thank you for this tender memory of years past.
even though this is from '77, I was born in '86 and this commercial would always come up, and seeing this commercial now, I know the lyrics by heart. Love this! :)
@franzchick66 yeah to me this ad is from the late 90s... but it was actually done in the 70s. And when I heard it back in the late 90s, I KNEW the song already! Guess these commercials have more of an impact than these crap-mercials we see today
This was brought back from the dead several times during the 90s and I think a little bit early this decade. That's unusual. (The only other example I know of is the "Mr. Owl" Tootsie Pop commercial, which, though now redubbed, is STILL running.)
I was a kid in the 90s and I could tell right away that it was from the 70s. Everything about it---the animation, the soundtrack, the character designs, the backgrounds, those "sparkle" effects---they all tie it very specifically to that period.

At 0:21, why does an exclamation point flash over the girl's head when she bats the ball? (It doesn't turn into a Tootsie Roll).

It's funny how you can hear your entire childhood in a jingle. Mine is here along with School House Rocks.
