@DLSings It was a time never to be visited again. You could feel it in the air... I was in L.A. where I grew up. Hung out A LOT on The Strip. Saw groups in small clubs that you just don't see around anymore. EVERYONE played the Whiskey.. from The Kinks, to The Byrds, to The Doors and on up. Every group that was happening at that time played the Whiskey and several other small clubs on the strip.
rICHIE HEAVEN ROCKS ,,and the song freedom was written while he waited to be put on stage as he said he wrote this because back then he did'nt have but a few songs as most that played , these groups weren't famous until AFTER this , WOODSTOCK opened many doors for these top bands , it would've been great to see the WHO play the 40th and Sanatana, that place would be insane all over again, I was at the original , only 9 yrs old and scared with that many people around me, and they were all stoned
It's just stupid no new Havens songs were aded onto the Woodstock 40 box set . All it had was the usual 2 songs, Freedom & Handsome Johnny. Would have been good to have heard something new, to hear how the festival started .
Great idea to have Richie Havens perform that song, in that place, at this time. Great performance by all three musicians. Hard to believe so much time has passed. Thanks for posting it.
I love Richie Havens. I loved seeing this. Thanks for posting it.
