hi good looking tank you've got there. Since ive got a couple of questions i need to ask you ill try and keep it short:
1. What light are you using?what kelvin?what wattage?
2. has the aquarium been constructed using regular glass or some extra clear glass?
3. if you have an air pump to oxygenate the tank and at the same time have a co2 system to pump co2 for plants, arent they both diffusing each other? why not shut off the oxygen air pump to automatically increase co2 in the tank?
I'll make another suggestion and tell you to put a bubble counter on your set-up so you don't add or waste too much CO2. it's well worth it to buy the diffuser since it's only about $10.
I have a $270 CO2 system that is timer automated in sync with my lights and the tank lasts for 2 years on my 8 gallon cube. The refill cost is $40. On top of that I can resell it with ease and it will last a lifetime. Check out Aqua Design Amano supplies and gallery.
Ive just been pumping the Co2 into my air pump from the bottom where the cloth filter is/was. It runs through a 2 long air stones placed in the substrate ive been using it like that for years. Seems to be working. the air pump is in a large pickle jar with the co2 so it doesnt have to be air tight.
Free energy technology exists! But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Join the energy revolution!
cant you use a air stone? that will break up the bubble and keep them in there for longer too (i think the "foam" that appears around the air stone is co2)
Men!!! Thank you very much dude, I decided to replace the valve, thanks good it was a universal hose. I still waitting for the CO2 to be produced ( The manual says that it's going to take about 24hrs) I replaced righ on time Thank you again for answering bro!!!
Before anything,, Thank you very much!! for your explanation. I am thinking in create the 2 L bottle generator with the components mentioned in part 1 of 2 and also buy a cristal diffuser which cost about $10 and attach to it. Do u think that will be enough to keep my aquarium injected of CO2. What type of check valve I need? Please advice bro!!!
Thats a very good question. They don't tell you this on the product, but the refills are actually just a container full of sugar and a little thing of yeast. They don't tell you that these are the basic ingredients in the refill so that you will have to go and buy more of the refills. So the answer to your question, is don't waste your money on the refills, because you can make the same exact thing at you own home. I have never bought a refill and it works perfectly every time.
@quaqa88 Thats great, exactly what i wanted to know. The system said it would be good enough for 40 gallons but what would the mix be? And to anyone who doesnt want to use the electric diffuser, just buy a glass cup diffuser off ebay, usually has built in bubble counter and place underneath the outlet of your filter. That way when the bubbles rise they will reach near to the top where the outlet is and be pushed by the outlet filter around your tank.
I have installed the reactor from Drs. Foster and Smith. I have mixed the stuff, instaled and turned on the Diffusion pump, but the valve check is dripping water. is that normal? or it is beacuse the reaction isn't there yet.. Please advice!
No, this is not normal at all. The mixture should not be leaking from the valve. This also means that once the reaction starts producing CO2, it is all going to leak out of that valve. This should be fixed immediately, either by sealing the leakage area with a very good glue, or by buying another valve at an aquarium store for a couple of dollars.
Well the whole point of the DIY generator is so that you save as much money as possible. These are materials that the average person can find in their home. I had all the materials at my house and I didn't spend any money. If you spend any money then it will probably be on some yeast, sugar, a 2 liter bottle, or some tubing; all of which will not cost you more than $10.
Hi i've watch ur video from the uk, great video very informative. Gonna make my own c02 generator but have got 1 question about capacity. I've got a 312L (70G) tank does the same quantities of yeast sugar and water still apply because i dont want to add to much c02 to the tank and not to little as it would be a waste?
Cool! I use the RedSea CO2 diffuser also! I use a 20lb co2 tank from my local walding shop though. I'd suggest using one. They chage you 20 bucks to rent a new one and it last like 2 years at 20bpm. I noticed your Diffuser doesnt have the thing attached that spins the wayer. Mine does. I diffuse almost 100%.
cool, we used to have a fish tank with 5 Miniature Red Lobsters around and we would put little caves and such, and then we found out that they were dying so we had to put shrimp as their diet, which I had no clue that that is apart of a lobsters Diet.
Nice video. I have a suggestion for you buddy. You need to slow down, when you are talking, and cut out the "ums". You're a smart guy, and we like the information, we are all going to pay attention to you, no matter how slow you talk. Thanks for saving me $450 through all your videos.
I thought your videos both 1 and 2 were great, very informative and accurate, the diy generator was great, however I have been doing planted aquariums for a long time and thought i might suggest a few things, I noticed that you had an air stone in your tank, this out-gasses the Co2 very quickly, although you may be getting some co2, it can be far more efficient if you remove that airstone. also your corkscrew val. looks great, but with proper co2 i have had it exceed 2 feet in my tank! good luck
That is a good question. Plants absolutely do not require injected CO2. It is just beneficial for their growth and it can increase their growth rate by like 3 times faster. You plants grow out of control when a good CO2 supply is dissolved in the water. However, I have kept plants in my aquariums for years without any CO2 generation and they do just fine, (that is as long as you have the regular plant requirement such as lighting and fertilization).
I have not recorded any other level fluctuations other than the pH. CO2 naturally has an acidic pH, and will therefore slowly and steadily lower the pH of the aquarium water. But if you are doing regular water changes to equalize the water levels again, no problems or catastrophes should occur. If you have cichlids in the tank, you should not be using the generator as they like higher pH levels.
Or you can stick the tube from the bottle into the intake of the power filter; that will churn the bubbles up into smaller bits and you can hear it working
Yeast and sugar CO2 generator pruduce CO2 and alcohol. Just wondering, how you solve the alcohol problem that's going into your tank together with the CO2?
The alcohol is left behind in the bottle. Only the CO2 will enter the aquarium, (hopefully you will have a check valve!). You can think of the alcohol as a waste product that is left behind.
PLEASE tell me how u keep your water so clean clear! because ive had my aquarium for like 2 months now and the water has never been clear once...i change water when need (once a week) but the water is always so murky
Other than a good filtration system, water changes as well as gravel vacuuming every 2 weeks, a Chinese Algae Eater, and regular maintenance, not much is done to keep the tank clean. Once the aquarium is a stable, and mature, it becomes a self-sustaining environment. In your situation however, it seems that the tank might have a bacterial bloom. This is caused by billions of microscopic bacterial colonies that suspend freely in the aquarium water, giving it the "murky" look. CONTINUE BELOW!
The only way this can be solved, is through water change or investing in a UV sterilizer. But since the water changes don't seem to be working, there can be many other things affecting the clarity of the water. Make sure that everything is functioning correctly, especially the filter. Just because water is flowing out does not mean that it is filtering. Any pieces of wood or rock can be secreting tannins into the water in which easily gives it a dark stain. Maybe it is time for a filter upgrade?
Yes I actually have both. I have 2 pieces of drift wood and one river rock. But when putting rocks in the aquarium, you want to make sure that the rock are not calcium based, consisting of limestone, or have any metallic luster to them. When adding wood to the tank, you may want to boil it before putting it into your tank to stop tannins from leaching into the water and staining it brown.
There is no special plant substrate in this aquarium. I do however use a liquid plant fertilizer in which provides the plants with the proper nutrients.
In past my plants lost the birght-green color, now i used some fertilizing clay balls, hopefully i can make this CO2 system, maybe they will stay green.Alsow i am affraid to spend $ on plants, knowing they will die :( (here a plant costs like 10$)
Well first of all, justkeep in mind that if you realy want tokeep your plants healthy and green, you must provide efficient lighting, approximately 2-3 watts per gallon of water. Also, this hobby is an expensive hobby. If you want to keep aquariums, you have to be willing to pay the prices.
Algae may be involved, but there are always ways to avoid it, the best one being to purchase an algae eating fish such as a chinese algae eater or plecostomus. I promise you that strong lighting is how your plants will stay healthy and alive.
I suppose ochoacool you have shown your inteligience. If it was so annoying you could have changed the channel so to speak. I originally found the video very informing and although I have a slightly better design I will be posting video later.
I don't know what starting a filter has to do with this video, but if you don't know how to start your filter, I can surely tell you. Most filters run by an impeller which spins inside the aquarium. When it spins, water is being sucked out of the tank and into the filter, kind of like how a fan sucks air on one side and blows it out the other. The only thing is this impeller has to be under the water in order to start the sucking. (Continue Below)
So before plugging in the filter, take a cup of the aquarium water and put it into the actual filter. The water will cover the impeller and you can then plug the filter in. The impeller will start to spin and within a minute the water should be flowing normally through the filter. This is called priming a filter if you didn't already know. When you plug it in and the water does not flow, you either need to put more water in the filter or there could be an impeller malfunction.
If I were to buy that system you showed, do I have to buy refills or can I just fill the one that comes with the system with the sugar, yeast and water? Or, should I just attach some 2-liter bottle with the mixture like you had in the first video to the system?
No, you absolutely do not have to buy the refills. Those refills are simply a can of sugar and yeast mixed together but they don't tell you this because they want you to spend your money on their refills. Using the regular sugar, yeast, and water solution will work the same way.
Their have only been very few people that have had small explosions from their bottle. But the only thing that causes this is something that is blocking the air from going through the airtube and into the tank. Before you start up the system, it is very important to make sure that noting is blocking the air from escaping. You can do this by blowing through one end of the tube, and make sure that the air comes out the other side. Also, don't fill the bottle too high to where the air can't escape.
I think you don't need an air pump in your tank (inside the tank at the right) as long as you have plenty of water plant and the size/ population of the fish are small. The water current of the filter system and O2 generated from photosynthesis should be enough to keep the fish and water healthy provided that you have long enough hours of lighting. Moreover, it may help keeping the CO2 level in water as vigorous aeration will reverse the diffusion process and CO2 excape back into the air.
Hi sorry for flooding (lol) but i does it create too much pressure if i put piece of sponge in the tube and the tube to my filter and on my new tanks filter what i jsut got it has a diffures or a "breaker" so that would make the Co2 nice small particles rigth? but i tought does that make too much pressure? and ill show teh tank and filter etc. when we get our camera back :)
Hey i can connect an airpump to my filter so it blows air out so i could make co2 generator and connect it to my filter! and if i put it higher than my tank do i need a check-valve?
It is now there. I had to wait until this one finished uploading to change the name of the other one to part 1. I was not there when it finished uploading but now it will say it.

Maybe it is time for a filter upgrade?

do you have any logs or rocks in your tank?
0RodimusPrime0 2 years ago
Yes I actually have both. I have 2 pieces of drift wood and one river rock. But when putting rocks in the aquarium, you want to make sure that the rock are not calcium based, consisting of limestone, or have any metallic luster to them. When adding wood to the tank, you may want to boil it before putting it into your tank to stop tannins from leaching into the water and staining it brown.

Do you have any special substrate for your plants or do you just use an additive?
Toucan38 2 years ago
There is no special plant substrate in this aquarium. I do however use a liquid plant fertilizer in which provides the plants with the proper nutrients.

In past my plants lost the birght-green color, now i used some fertilizing clay balls, hopefully i can make this CO2 system, maybe they will stay green.Alsow i am affraid to spend $ on plants, knowing they will die :( (here a plant costs like 10$)
2ShaePussyCat 2 years ago
Well first of all, justkeep in mind that if you realy want tokeep your plants healthy and green, you must provide efficient lighting, approximately 2-3 watts per gallon of water. Also, this hobby is an expensive hobby. If you want to keep aquariums, you have to be willing to pay the prices.
quaqa88 2 years ago
I heared that if u have to good light , algae develops fast, wich is bad and i want to invest in plants, but i am affraid they will die again :(
2ShaePussyCat 2 years ago
Algae may be involved, but there are always ways to avoid it, the best one being to purchase an algae eating fish such as a chinese algae eater or plecostomus. I promise you that strong lighting is how your plants will stay healthy and alive.

can you use a a regular energy efficent bulb?

ok but how do you change the water with this tank
AnglesOfDeaD 2 years ago
I don't understand your question. Are you asking me about how to change the generator mixture?

great info mate - watched both vids & learned abit.
cheers!

Get to your point! Stop rephrasing what you've just said. It gets annoying!
ochoacool 2 years ago
I suppose ochoacool you have shown your inteligience. If it was so annoying you could have changed the channel so to speak. I originally found the video very informing and although I have a slightly better design I will be posting video later.

i went on that website but what do i search for to get this?

I don't know if you remember me but, did you try my sponge method? Look for the video in my channel if you wanna see it.

how do you start the filter
tayama07 3 years ago
I don't know what starting a filter has to do with this video, but if you don't know how to start your filter, I can surely tell you. Most filters run by an impeller which spins inside the aquarium. When it spins, water is being sucked out of the tank and into the filter, kind of like how a fan sucks air on one side and blows it out the other. The only thing is this impeller has to be under the water in order to start the sucking. (Continue Below)
quaqa88 3 years ago

REDdolly 3 years ago
No, you absolutely do not have to buy the refills. Those refills are simply a can of sugar and yeast mixed together but they don't tell you this because they want you to spend your money on their refills. Using the regular sugar, yeast, and water solution will work the same way.
quaqa88 3 years ago
K, I need difusor, but is it a chance that the cola bottle can blow up? and do you use reflectors? it realy helps gives you much more light
RofLNinJaZ 3 years ago
Their have only been very few people that have had small explosions from their bottle. But the only thing that causes this is something that is blocking the air from going through the airtube and into the tank. Before you start up the system, it is very important to make sure that noting is blocking the air from escaping. You can do this by blowing through one end of the tube, and make sure that the air comes out the other side. Also, don't fill the bottle too high to where the air can't escape.
quaqa88 3 years ago
I think you don't need an air pump in your tank (inside the tank at the right) as long as you have plenty of water plant and the size/ population of the fish are small. The water current of the filter system and O2 generated from photosynthesis should be enough to keep the fish and water healthy provided that you have long enough hours of lighting. Moreover, it may help keeping the CO2 level in water as vigorous aeration will reverse the diffusion process and CO2 excape back into the air.
lwhkeith 3 years ago
or just put the co2 line under the filter intake and the filter propeller will chop the bubbles up and put it back into the water :)
Blaxicanlatino 3 years ago
Hi sorry for flooding (lol) but i does it create too much pressure if i put piece of sponge in the tube and the tube to my filter and on my new tanks filter what i jsut got it has a diffures or a "breaker" so that would make the Co2 nice small particles rigth? but i tought does that make too much pressure? and ill show teh tank and filter etc. when we get our camera back :)
Eigeroo 3 years ago
Hey i can connect an airpump to my filter so it blows air out so i could make co2 generator and connect it to my filter! and if i put it higher than my tank do i need a check-valve?
Eigeroo 3 years ago
Again cool :D but wheres teh part 1 ?
Eigeroo 3 years ago
It is now there. I had to wait until this one finished uploading to change the name of the other one to part 1. I was not there when it finished uploading but now it will say it.
