I know there are many doubters about the benefits of a cold air intake. But in Texas when temperatures are pushing 105+ out on the trail I encounter drivability issues such as hot starting issues, rough idle and stumbling after sitting and idling in line with my Jeep club. As I report in my video all drivability issues were resolved with a fresh air intake.
The other commentors are right. A less restrictive intake USUALLY allows more dirt and such to get in because it's more "free flowing". Fact is that Jeeps have some of the most free flowing intakes that I've ever seen even in the 5.2s. So a mod like this, even for 20 horsepower, it's kind of negligible to me. It's going to be hard to REALLY notice the extra 20 when you're running 33s on a 3.5" lift with 3.73s. But to each his own.
You can get them online at Rusty's offroad or K&N site or type in google "cold air intake jeep cherokee" or you can make your own like I did. I love doing things myself so thats why i did it. It has lots more power and you'll love the sound.
4.0L Inline 6 High Output engines benefit very much from a cold air intake. But you have to do it right. You need a heat shield, some ducts coming right to your intake, and the right pipes. Either heat insulated plastic or any heat insulated material.
The OEM Jeep flex hose is NOT heat insulated, the hot air from the engine goes right in it. Inline 6 engines run very hot. They love cold air. Cold air is denser than hot air, thus more air = more power.
okay... but horsepower gains are not THAT noticeable because 4.0L inline 6's are all about torque. Oh and again, have fun with all that dirt going into your engine with those pick of crap air filter mr. jedimaster hahaha
That's what it does adds horsepower but MORE torque also. Thanks for calling me Mr. I would of preferred Master Jedi, but I guess that's good enough...
Well I have a Cherokee and it definitely adds more power. Especially low end. I go out on the sand dunes with it in Indiana, go to Badlands offroad park, go offroading, dirt roads. I have not had a problem with mine at all. Especially helps in 4 low with the throttle response.
You just need to know how to do it right. He did it right and so did I. If you have a heatshield and the proper filter, there is no problem whatsoever.
It does add horsepower. Cold air is dense thus more power.
yea but u can make one out of pvc pipe. (: but i installed a K&N air intake system on my 93 Suzuki Sidekick and saw that it no longer bogged down , as it use to.
yeah, your dumb.'01 F-150 4900rpm, i get a plus 18HP, and around 2000-4000, which is normal for my driving style, i get about 11HP. I also have seen a 5-6MPG increase. Overall, i like it better than the old K&N intake i had.
yea you do notice more pull when you get on it, and it sounds kinda cool. AEM got like 11hp and like 15trq on the dyno. oh and a lil bit better mileage, overall i think its worth it.

Don't listen to that moron. I have a Jeep Cherokee 4.0 and put one on mine. VERY noticeable gains. Good install man.

You know the only way to get true cold air intake + performance is to run it into the cowl
provin1327 2 years ago
you'll get 2-4hp not 11

I don't know, four wheeler magazine just installed a CAI on 4.0 wrangler and gained almost 20 hp with it and backed it up with dyno results

that is true =D
Khang1108 2 years ago
@croxtonnathan07 Yeah. and the company that made the kit is one of their sponsers. Still surprised that it made power?

hey, how hard was it to install. its just remove the old intake, bolt this on and attach the hose and sensor right?
