aand then when i click play level, the screen is totally black, all i can see is my health, and weapon, (which are my hands), and i can hear my self walking but i cant see anything.
so fucking annoying how this doesn't apply to Unreal Edit 3 anymore. There's no texture window, just this generic piece of shit, and it doesn't apply by simply clicking the textures, and you can't import them. What the fuck. Such an inconvenient piece of shit compared to Hammer, and now I have to go read 43224324 documents and then apply that to these videos
This is nice tutorial. But my version is different. It does not have a lot of the buttons that this version has. I cannot find any wall or similar textures to use. And the ones that I do try do not work.
So is there a different tutorial? My version says it is the unreal editor for unreal tourneyment 3.
Unfortunately I do not have any of the tutorials for UT3. Although there are several on YouTube. A few of them are available from kchin228. Try his profile if you like.
1): The Light Radius could be turned down to zero, that would cause the light to instantly fade out over distance so nothing would show
2): The light may have been set to be a special light. Special Lights only illuminate actors that are designated to be special lit, and will not light anything else
3): The light color may have been set to black, so it casts a black (color) light
4): Make sure that the light is INSIDE of your subtraction brush
Set the surface properties of all of the faces in the BSP Brush to Unlit, then rebuild, then uncheck the Unlit option and rebuild again.
Another solution
Go to View>advanced options
redering>3Dd(whatever-you-have)support>UseHardwareTL and change from either true to false or false to true (supposedly this may only work if you use an ATI graphics card, but try it anyway)
1.when I click on a primitive in the menu it makes one but I cant modify it,and when I click a new one the first one is replaced by it,how do I perminitly make a primitive and modify it ?
2.if I want to just model my level in wings 3d or blender and load it in unreal ed will the collission be off or will it work fine?
if you right click on the primitive icon, it will bring up a small window that allows to to adjust the properties of the primitive you are about to create. make sure to press build on the propeties window so that it will actually make the adjustments to the brush.
Ive never tried to bring stuff into UnrealEd from wings3d or blender (although i know that UnrealEd supports 3Ds Max and Maya) but by default when you first import static meshes they dont have a set collision. You can create collision by using collision brushes in UnrealEd or you can create a collision model for the static mesh in your program. to do this (you can use the same model) rename it so that its name begins with "MCDCX_" (without the ") and then export it as a ASCII Scene Export *.ASE
The point of doing is is that when you import it into your static mesh package in UnrealEd, it will be reconized as a collision model. FORGOT TO MENTION THIS IN LAST COMMENT: When you import the model. you need to have a total of two objects, the origional static mesh you want to see in the game and the collision mesh (they need to line up). And it is the collision model that needs to be named with the "MCDCX_" at the begining. This way your static mesh and the collision mesh will be together.
that should be the full version. i cant imagine why it wont let you use textures. try restarting your computer, and if that does not work, then you may have to reinstall.
Select the brush with the mouse, and then while holding control and the left mouse button, you can drag it around. holding left button will rotate it. it works a little differently in the perspective viewport (the one one the lower left), ctrl+left mouse button will move it on the x-axis, ctrl+right mouse button will move it on the y axis, and ctrl+left and right mouse buttons will move it along the z-axis. if it's a geometry brush make sure to rebuild before you play or you will die at spawn.
Right click on the Cone Brush icon. That will bring up a small window with details on the brush, from there you can change the sides to 3 or 4 to make a pyramid
when i click build all its says:
Actor message
playerstart1 no paths from player start 1
aand then when i click play level, the screen is totally black, all i can see is my health, and weapon, (which are my hands), and i can hear my self walking but i cant see anything.

ive made a basic level, but wen i click 'play level' my character just dies instantly, is there any option that has to be set or anything?
RenegadeOfSociety 2 years ago
you need to rebuild your geometry. you need to do this everytime that you change one of the addition or subtraction brushes before you play.
104Sargeisms 2 years ago
found out from 1 of the other videos after, i forgot to mention here though
btw, thanks for the uploads, much appreciated :)

I'm assuming they are all ment to be viewed one after another.
you should put a link to the next video in the description, because I find things like this get confusing.

For some reason, my lighting just appears black in game, and i did everything right. I have a few mods is that why?
gmod9dude999 3 years ago
There are several reasons why this could happen
1): The Light Radius could be turned down to zero, that would cause the light to instantly fade out over distance so nothing would show
2): The light may have been set to be a special light. Special Lights only illuminate actors that are designated to be special lit, and will not light anything else
3): The light color may have been set to black, so it casts a black (color) light
4): Make sure that the light is INSIDE of your subtraction brush

Reply back if you still have problems
104Sargeisms 3 years ago
Well ive tried everything you said and still, no light in game. Strange thing is the light is in the 3d- view on the editor, just not in game.
gmod9dude999 3 years ago
Under lighting, set the Dynamic Light property is set to False and set the Light Type is set to LT_Steady. Then rebuild and see if that works.
104Sargeisms 3 years ago
did you clikc on the Build All button before you tried to play your game
clessigmaster 3 years ago
yes i did
gmod9dude999 3 years ago
Check the light brightness. By default it should be set to 64
104Sargeisms 3 years ago
I will dig around for more solutions incase this doesnt work
104Sargeisms 3 years ago
Found a couple of more solutions that may work:
Set the surface properties of all of the faces in the BSP Brush to Unlit, then rebuild, then uncheck the Unlit option and rebuild again.
Another solution
Go to View>advanced options
redering>3Dd(whatever-you-have)support>UseHardwareTL and change from either true to false or false to true (supposedly this may only work if you use an ATI graphics card, but try it anyway)

I have Unreal Tournedment 2004 but I cant use the Textures in My Unrealed.
Where can I get the full version?
LunarMagicRomHacks 3 years ago
that should be the full version. i cant imagine why it wont let you use textures. try restarting your computer, and if that does not work, then you may have to reinstall.
104Sargeisms 3 years ago
Alright I tried all that.
It says that I cant use my textures made in the full version of unrealed, and to remove the content made in the full version.
LunarMagicRomHacks 3 years ago
i honestly have no idea why that is happening. Can you tell me EXACTLY what the message says?

Select the brush with the mouse, and then while holding control and the left mouse button, you can drag it around. holding left button will rotate it. it works a little differently in the perspective viewport (the one one the lower left), ctrl+left mouse button will move it on the x-axis, ctrl+right mouse button will move it on the y axis, and ctrl+left and right mouse buttons will move it along the z-axis. if it's a geometry brush make sure to rebuild before you play or you will die at spawn.

make sure that you rebuild the geometry of the level everytime that you add, subtract, move, or delete a construction brush.
104Sargeisms 3 years ago
thanks ill remember to rebuild the geometry.
