I like M.I.A.'s music starting when I heard Paper Planes. Still like the music. Has a unique sound. After her middle finger Superbowl halftime I wanted to get a better read on her as a person. Listening to her speak is painful. She sounds like a stoned high school student in the way she speaks. She also does not have a sense of herself- rather she looks for something to oppose. I am not shocked by swear words or middle fingers just like I am not shocked when teenagers use the same language.

It's amazing to me that this fine artist, working with sound/music as a medium, somehow stumbled into the mainstream music industry. She speaks abstractly and struggles to put complex ideas into words, but Jian really tried to dig in and open up the conversation for a broader audience. M.I.A. has some amazingly insightful points, especially about power (20:15) and the creative restraints of the internet (24:00).

this interviewer isn't completely a douche, I think he was pretty professional, he let her talk and give all her views, he didn't really impose anything on her, I think most of his pressing was because she was sort of vague with some of the answers and stuff, but obviously MIA isn't suppose to be a politician at all. I think she is a genius, but I think the way she communicated in this interview make her come across as more cynical and contradictory than she is. Also she's beautiful.

this interviewer isn't completely a douche, I think he was pretty professional, he let her talk and give all her views, he didn't really impose anything on her, I think most of his pressing was because she was sort of vague with some of the answers and stuff, but obviously MIA isn't suppose to be a politician at all. I think she is a genius, but I think the way she communicated in this interview make her come across as more cynical and contradictory than she is. Also she's beautiful.
