Their are plenty of posts featuring this plug-in. Actually, I only posted it to show a friend the end results and how quickly they can be accomplished. This is not a tutorial. Thanks.
Sketchup's soft edges are just a shading technique, whereas Subdivide & Smooth actually creates geometry and kind of "averages" the vertexes. But still, the effect is less than desirable most of the time.
Hey Krash! perhaps you can help me, I just bought the smooth-application but when I try to export is to Illustrator it doesnt work! Did I buy it for nothing? Please tell me I didnt
I'm not sure I understand... The Subdivide and Smooth Plug-in is used to smooth 3D Geometry in Sketchup while Illustrator, I believe, only deals with 2D vector graphics. This plug-in has no import/export functions, but Sketchup itself can export a 2D image that can be imported into any image software, though, not in a vector format.
If you have an angular, boxy 3D model in Sketchup and want to "soften" the shape, this plug-in is for you. However, if you want 2D vector exports, then it can't help you... I will also add that I am unclear on the export options that the pro version of Sketchup provides since I only use the free version.
what I ment was that I used the smooth-effect in sketchup, and when I wanted to export that sketchupfile to illustrator it didnt work. there was an error message which has never happened before.
@antibulletdodger101 I also have no idea what you are talking about. Illustrator is a 2D vector program. Sketchup is a 3D modeling program. What you are asking makes as much sense as asking how to import a movie into a book. Not sure what business a sketchup model has in illustrator unless you are looking for a screenshot. If you were trying to live-trace a screenshot then smoothing the edges in sketchup would hurt more than help.
Before you make stupid metaphors you might want to learn Sketchup proparly.
You are obviously not aware that you can export 3D sketchupmodels to 2D Adobe Illustrator files. I do know what Im talking about, Im a graphic news designer by profession and use exported Sketchup vectorfiles to Illustrator on a daily basis in my work at a newspaper. And Ive also solved the puzzle with the subdivide and smooth I had earlier. Works just as well when exported to 2D.
I don't model this fast, trust me. The video went double speed once YouTube converted it. I have no idea why. I may post another version to see if that helps.
Your on the wrong website i think you were looking for flickr when you posted this slide show.

This plug-in is nice for smoothing some corners, but you probably won't find much use for it otherwise. It doesn't compare to Max or Maya smoothing.

I guess you are using the Pro version, which file format are you exporting to and what is the error message?
