The poor sound on this recording( not to mention the appalling conducting )does no justice to this remarkable tenor, the finest in the world today and a true successor to the legendary Bjorling. Go to La Traviata from Covent Garden on youtube, in an outstanding recording, to hear how really fabulous he is, with a conductor who knows how opera should be performed.
uhm...is anyone else listening to the same video I am...there is a crazy flutter in his voice. Ive never heard this from him before now. I came to listen because im learning this aria...but seriously listen closer. It isnt just a fast vibrato.
wonderful voice --he sounds like caruso. great performance - I went to the repeat performance at fathom events. both calleja and dessay were unbelievable.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in the Met Simulcast last weekend. I cried like a baby during this. What a beautiful voice and what a fine actor he is. I love that Mary Zimmerman, the director, has him sing this to an apparition of Lucia. It's really heartbreaking.

If you like him on video, do what you can to see him live. I was at this performance and it was stunning.

I saw it yesterday and the whole production was awesome. I am now a fan of Calleja's.

Have to say, I SERIOUSLY love the vibrato in his voice. Like a refined Lauri Volpi. Really excellent.

I also had the pleasure of seeing the Met simulcast, and it was fantastic! Joseph Calleja was magnificent. *swoon* Yep, I'm THAT cheesy about it!
