  • blame on wal-mart for killed many businesses

  • If everyone remembers right, the price was high and the quality low when the street lights went in. The current mayor complained and had the contractor come back and repair them for things like "pealing paint" "lights burning out to fast" and "poor installation" its a problem that has existed with their introduction. Both Mayors we have had "remain silent" when confronted by the SPL center, ignor anything iside the "good ol boy network" and are in serious need of removal.

  • Martinsville is being ran from the nursing homes!!

  • Martinsville is the most difficult place to do business that I have knowledge of. The cronyism and nepotism run deep here. At all cost the town must elect an outsider to break up this cozy arrangement. Have you ever seen as many incumbents run for office unapposed. That has hidden meaning!!!! Any decent challenger has been warned!!!! Just leave things as they are, is the message!!! If you cant understand that then you will feel their wrath!!!!!!!!!!

  • @creoquality...John..I really admire your effort to make a change. You are a breath of fresh air!

  • @huntinforit We need to bring more people into this dialog. I agree with you, change is needed. I believe many in the community will admit this in private. Not sure how many have the guts to do something about it. Maybe Mr. Spina should hold some town hall events. I'm sure I can help rally some people to participate.

  • @creoquality...Are you getting involved in the election? If so, what are you hearing?

  • I drove around the square and counted over 125 of the decorative St. Lights burned out or not working. That is some great city government!!!!! PLEASE HELP OUR TOWN.

  • @huntinforit Regarding the street lights, yes, this is a terrible reflection on the current attitude of local leadership. An electrician friend tells me the current street lamps could be easily fixed by simply drilling a small hole in the bottoms of the globe. This hole would allow heat to escape and keep bulbs burning longer.

  • And last but not least....Leave the incoherent people at the NURSING HOMES ALONE. The practice of filling out these poor old peoples ballets has been a culture in Martinsville. The last MAYOR had several charges of voter fraud and shouldnt even be able to hold office. No FELON CAN HOLD PUBLIC OFFICE. A plea bargain was cut BEHIND THE SCENES and then THE FELONIES WERE EXPUNGED. We Martinsville citizens deserve better and you can count on me voting for anyone but PHIL DECKARD or SHANNON BUSKIRK!!!

  • Evidence of City Employees right to support who they really want elected BEING SUPPRESSED is proven by the lack of signs at their homes! THEY KNOW BETTER. They will be soundly punished by the next MAYOR if they back the looser in the election. How fair is that? Typically department heads will commit to the current MAYOR because they are getting the shaft if the challenger wins. This needs to stop now..........Look for yourself. Nothing but bad behavior in the past.

  • Could Martinsville PLEASE get some new leadership. The reason that the downtown area is stagnant is because of the hardship of parking. There is enough lawyers on the square to gobble up the parking during business hours. Maybe they should show a little consideration for someone other than themselves! What a revolving door, just like a school of sharks surrounding their prey. If you think that the politicians in Martinsville play fair, guess again.

  • @huntinforit Change is good.

  • @creoquality..Election is coming up soon. This will be our first chance to make that positive change in four years. Hogan, Stewart and Buskirk have no chance at winning against Phil. The only one that can win is Victor Spina. I want someone with youthful and fresh ideas to be our Mayor. Tired of the same old boys club running our city into the ground. Jeff Price is a fresh face for council also.

  • @creoquality..Take an honest look at Martinsville and you will quickly see that it is badly dated. The town has had the same two mayors for almost 24 years and they are more interested in feuding with each other than having a nice town. Our children can't even make enough money to live here unless they work in Indianapolis. So sad!! We need sweeping change. The nepotism is rampant.

  • @huntinforit Change scares everyone. The community needs a positive change.

  • @creoquality...I believe that Vic Spina is a very good choice for Mayor and would be a welcome breath of fresh air. The power brokers are scared to death that a COMMON MAN might actually beat them .

  • @huntinforit I agree Martinsville needs progressive leadership.

  • This great city is being kept in the (Dark Ages) by the Prehistoric politicians that run the city at face value and , behind closed doors. These politicians have a voter base that currently puts them back in office term after term. If that base is allowed to grow or change, it threatens their ability to win an election. The choice to manipulate these elections is an easy one for the incumbents. No remorse is shown to the people for these actions ever. Martinsville needs a younger Mayor ASAP.

  • Only went through it a few times with a friend when I lived in Indy...is the downtown CANDY STORE still there???

  • @hipstermi The Martinsville Candy Kitchen is still downtown and doing well. Next time you are in central Indiana, stop by.

  • i grew up in martinsville. i moved away when i was 18. i moved out west. martinsville was once a famous place but the young people are so separated from it's history that they don't appreciate it. my generation 21-35 only seem interested when a new chain store is put in town, not taking pride in the traditional. look at what happened to the fall foliage situation. highway 37, wal-mart, dollar tree forever change the structure of the town

  • Maybe. I'm 34. I think the whole community is very apathetic. I see more issues with the older generation resisting change and not open-minded to new approaches. As far as I can tell, it's business as usual even though the usual no longer works or applies.

  • i would say marttinsville's problem is nobody appreciate it because they've never traveled to other parts of the country to see how lucky they are. it's a good town. give the kids in the area more to do without adults harassing them. cheers mate

  • Thanks for the comments. Have you visited Martinsville, IN? A few of us are working on opportunities for the kids. I hope we succeed. We love it here.
