It's funny seeing Gerard with that whip. He was such a calm, friendly guy when I knew him for a few years in the late '70s and early '80s! Playful, but bookish! Greetings from France.
I saw it/experienced The Exploding Plastic Inevitable at the Dom on St Mark's Place. Was it 1966? I was fortunate to meet AW, Nico, Paul Morrisey soon there after.
I saw part one, why wasn't Lou Reed listed as a member? I mean, seriously, who the hell wrote these genius songs? And who the hell is singing them? (except for Nico)
How time rearranges the molecules of the brain: when I was in college, I'd hear VU and think, Hmm. So what. My idea of a good rock band was something like XTC. Now the greatness of VU is obvious to me. Same with Bowie: late teens, early 20's, I didn't like him. Now I think he's great.
I didn't get Television for some reason when I was younger, and I don't understand how or why, they're great. I loved Bowie since I was a teen though. I had the Changes record and played the heck out of it (this was in the late 90s, so I felt like I got cool points for having records). Velvets didn't come till college.
Wild, stacatto, sensually incinerating, amphetamine-fueled, violent and absolutey gorgeous. Would trade my soul to go back in time and move in the thick of it, even for one night.
"Recording a mere four studio albums in its short-lived career, the Velvet Underground established an aesthetic so extreme and alien that it has taken three decades for the world to catch up..."
Did you ever see the Warhol thing where Gerard dances while Edie and some other people watch him...he's dancing to "Nowhere to Run," its really funny, and boy is he boogyin! ;)
you cannot resist this it is truly a legendary performance by them and anyone that was apart of this or even watched this performance you were in for a big surprise
my mother and father attended three of the shows and my mother actually met edie, lou, and andy. My parents are amazing also my dad use to party with bob Dylan.
Damn! Gerard Malanga was a major hottie back in the day.
It's also interesting seeing Dan Williams name in the credits. There's a new documentary showing at festivals this year that deal with his relationship with Warhol and his mysterious disappearance. It's called A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory. I'm hoping it finds a national distributor and at least makes it to DVD.
in the beginning of part 1 they say John Cale is the only singer, Lou sings the most in VU

Heres the name of the Andy Warhol factory member that is not credited. SUPERDUDE
Superdude is still alive and playing music at nearly 70. He is the person standing right behind Andy in the photo on sonicbids.
It would be nice for him to get some recognition.

Was this film directed by the same guy who did "Tonight Let's All Make Love in London?" Both films share similar styles.

I like Gerard more nowadays than then. It's a Bear thing. ;)

Oh is Gerard a bear now? Like Smokey Bear? Or Yogi Bear? :) ;) :)
theseether 3 years ago
oops. I was thinking more of Billy Name - they always get crossed in my mind.
Though Gerard is kind of rugged looking now, so that appeals to me more than the thinner Gerard.

Went on in. Nothing's ever been he same.
