Hi, could you tell me the initial conditions for the two galaxies. did you just set the group of particles to rotate around a point, or is it more complicated? cheers.
Newtonian gravity gives a gravity force that is proportional the the inverse square of the distance. The simulation will look more realistic, with phases appearing similar to ring galaxies and spiral clusterss with much tighter paired spiral arms, if you multiply the Newtonian force by a cosine having a wavelength close to the diameter of the clusters shown in the initial conditions given here.
Im no expert either, but some have used plasma cosmology and plasma physics and successfully created the known shapes of galaxies in all different stages. Its all to do with electric universe theory. Check out Joseph P. Farrel for more info.
Im really no expert but maybe using different maths you can get the same results with much less computation????? ? ? ? im probably wrong.
1.2 seconds per a timestep with 33,554,430 particles, which includes all of operation time for MPI communication, space decomposition, tree-construction, tree-traversal, time-integration and force calculation etc.
Although the opening parameter was implemented as a changeable parameter, this demo used it as 0.75.
The point is that the 8800GTS doesn't support double precision arithmetics so I am not sure that it can be used for scientific calculations...

what about plasma cosmology....

I am not a specialist about plasma cosmology. Did someone try to use tree code for plasma cosmology ?

i was thinking the same thing

the code on the website is a barnes-hut implementation?

Hm, this is very interesting... I wonder how an efficent treecode on a GPU works...

Website is down. By the way, was done in real time or not?

Probably not, even with the 32 GPU's, I don't think that 33 million particles can be done in real-time.

Did you understand ?
And sorry for my late response.
