This is the same version as on DP in concert 70-72. I never heard a 6:17 min. version of this song. As we know DP never played a song the same twice. So if you compare the two, you will hear it is the same version with 3 secs trimed off the end.
There's 6:17 version of Maybe I'm a Leo on the release "Deep Purple in Concert"... I've had that for many years. en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Deep_purple_in_concert
so, it's NOT the only live version as in the description.
Underrated track from Machine Head. I've got this live version on the double cd BBC In Concert 70/72 which came out on disc back in the early 90's. Cheers for posting.
@prophet3011 Correct , there are more with Steve Morse but as for Mark 2 with Blackmore in the early 70s this is the only good quality one. I think I have another one on really bad sounding bootleg.
@Dimagg1973 i have a version of this song with Joe Santriani on guitar. Assumably the Come hell and High water tour when Ritchie left band for good during tour.
@seventiesclassic Actually. The BBC sessions were recorded just after machine head was released. It was recorded march 9 and m.h. was released march 1. And it was not recoded at bbc studios. It was recorded at the Paris theater. And broadcast on the bbc. Just wanted to clear up a few points, anyway. Keep on rockin!.
No there is no 6:17 version on the bbc in concert album. It is mis-labeled as that. But listen to it and time it. And there you go 4:57.

Supposedly there is also at least one version of Pictures of Home from the '72 UK tour, but have not confirmed this...
Appreciate You taking the time to post all these rare versions of the Purple Machine.

This is from Deep Purple In Concert...
Live at The BBC..
2 Separate performances 1970 and 1972...obviously this is from 1972..just before Machine Head was released.
A good performance apart from Gillan fluffing his lyrics, but what's new ?
