All over YouTube, people just don't seem to love talking about the content of a video. It is always about McDowell's good looks (a fan thing), or who's the idiot and who's the smart one. Okay, I guess the latter is a good way of summarizing the interview in short words.
Why not just talk about how religiously-closed the public circle is, while people in the film business who were lucky to be a part of Kubrick's films appreciate the compositions and they think that way in an open-minded sense.
I really can't stand the fact that that twat popinjay of an interview gets the last word in this cut of the video, seriously fuck him in the face. So glad I wasn't around in these close-minded times
LOL! That interviewer wants a cheeky slap and a wedgey! A Clockwork Orange is an unbelievable movie, much better than anything made nowadays. The Fucking spacktard!
When I was reading the book, I couldn't help but fall in love with Alex. Even though I thought rape was terrible, I loved him. And even though I think murder is also terrible, I loved him. I fell in love with his charm and I felt sympathy for him throughout the book, even though he was a criminal...Please tell me I'm not the only one.
@Thursday196 Not at all! Me too! Alex is a really charismatic villain, and when he commits atrocities, you think, "That's not nice!" and when he's a victim, your heart really goes out to him. It's a testament to how brilliant the book is, when a vile, despicable individual can make you feel for him.
Something that kind of bothered me about the Clockwork Orange story (book and movie) was
1.) Alex was raping..and I still found him sexy. Damnet Malcolm! :P
2.) this is the serious reason: he was a criminal and I felt sorry for his character at the end. Alex was violent and took fancy to raping, but I fell in love with his charm. I wanted justice for this criminal. And that bothered me. And that made me think. That is why this story is dangerous.
Russell Harty was an anchorman/presenter - tried interviewing but the results were all like this. And he was such a massive bender that Heartbeat would have been too gritty & violent for him. What chance did he have with A.C.O
Russell was such a bad interviewer, and Burgess is a brilliant writer - so clever what he did, in fact I recommend reading the book about 4 times and in the not too distant future it becomes really intriguing, the 60s was already ultra violent. Interesting them talking about the media - look at us all now!
gosh Malcolm was so hot. love how he pwns the interviewer. what a nasty bastard. i would've socked the guy in the face...but Malcolm was too much of a gentleman.
What's wrong w/ that interviewer? IT WAS JUST A MOVIE. Yes, the media can be influential, but people do bad things on their own free will and by choice.
The Clockwork Orange's violence isn't about the violence... If that makes sense, haha. It's all very symbolic and stylized, as Malcolm has said. The point the film is intending to get across is the brainwashing of the masses by the media.
I see the interviewer getting a lot of shit and i definitely think he deserves it. But THANK GOD some interviewers ask these types of questions to see how the actors respond, you can tell a lot about an actor and how good they really are by how they deal with this type of criticism.
Malcom Mcdowell, probably not the best man to interview if he wanted to get a rise out of an actor, the interviewer just ended up looking like a prick Malcolms so cool
Goodness gracious, what a man. So very well spoken and mature, not to mention handsome. You can tell here he's frustrated with the host, but he doesn't lose his head over it. He remains levelheaded, and handles it with grace (Even a bit of humor at times!).
The celebrities of this generation should look, listen, and take heed. This is how a gentleman behaves.
Wow, the host here was a royal dick lol. Trying to degrade Malcom here for a movie. It was an amazing movie with a whole slew of morals behind it. Here, we have a stuck up old man trying to say the movie was "too violent" and blaming it for what others will do. Everyone is held accountable for what they do. Can't go and blame a movie or video game just because you are too stupid to see the difference between reality and fiction.
The interviewer is such a jerk!... a pain in the ass to poor Malcolm... he`s trying to be polite, but inside I bet he wanted to slap him... Malcolm♥ is the coolest BAMF Ever!
A C W O is my all time favorite movie! and Alex deLarge is the Best
The interviewer didn't understand the message of the movie. If you pay attention you will see the message of the movie. Alex was a violent murderer and rapist but, in his eyes he wasn't doing anything wrong. He did these things because they amused him. But when his right to choose is taken away then its just completely pointless. He wasn't naturally peaceful. He was being FORCED to act the way they wanted him to act. That isn't peace. Peace is natural, not forceful.
A Clockwork Orange is my all time favourite film and book and for exactly the same reason McDowell says - because of the morality of it. It's such a well-told story about man's right to choose and be given free will. On top of that, Burgess completely fucks with your head by presenting us with a protagonist who's a serial murderer and rapist.
the clockwork orange in a way is sort of like the book world war z in its not just about the violence but also about how everyone reacts to it and once you realize that about both storys you can get entertained by them even more
I can understand why people were shocked by such movies back then. I mean, you went from heavily censored and politically correct movies in the early 60s, to movies filled with violence, swearing, blood and full frontal nudity in 1970. The change was rapid.
@souleatr "everyone is saying how violent clockwork orange is but I can't recall seeing more then a few drops of blood"
Sigh. Your statement is precisely the point of the film (and what it was foreboding). I saw two women raped, several people beaten, two murdered, police violence, an old man beaten, Alex experimented upon, Alex driven to suicide ... shall I continue?
@riskybubble Yeah i wished they could talk about something interesting about the movie instead of just saying he dont like it and be a complete bag a doucha... really bad interviewer
He mentions selling socks with holes in them to people. I didn't know that in the '70 they thought about issues like consumerism and all of the crap we see on TV. And of course and actor should not be held accountable for what people do with their performances.
@Notawesomeatall7 Oh since the birth of televison itself, and its abuse. Look up Marshall McLuhan! He was talking about this stuff before it was cool.
@peridotbaby Haha, yes! In the end of the movie "A Clockwork Orange" when the prime minister comes to visit Alex in the hospital, Alex asks the prime minister (whose name is Frederick) if he may call him Frederick. lol.

he's just an actor, doesn't mean that he's promoting violence, he takes on a character a work with it the best way he can. That interviewer is an a**hole.

Shame. Malcolm is such an intelligent bloke; I would have liked to have seen someone interview him who really grasped the concept of works such as 'A Clockwork Orange', which are not advocating violence, but highlighting the dark truth of British society - mind control.
Also, I dont think A Clockwork Orange is that violent either. It takes a lot of thought to actually understand what the book/film is about. Its not a film for idiots.
All over YouTube, people just don't seem to love talking about the content of a video. It is always about McDowell's good looks (a fan thing), or who's the idiot and who's the smart one. Okay, I guess the latter is a good way of summarizing the interview in short words.

This interviewer seriously nips at my heels.
I remember seeing him interview Bowie.. It was almost as though Bowie was from another planet, and Russell Harty was the voice of the BBC, stumbling blindly over his own ignorance.
Shame. Malcolm is such an intelligent bloke; I would have liked to have seen someone interview him who really grasped the concept of works such as 'A Clockwork Orange', which are not advocating violence, but highlighting the dark truth of British society - mind control.

Its a good film. Fuck you Russell ¬¬

Also, I dont think A Clockwork Orange is that violent either. It takes a lot of thought to actually understand what the book/film is about. Its not a film for idiots.
