@Masteryouyou Nothing compared to BB King, huh? You ever heard them live? You're not being fair to Freddie if you knock one recording. BB and Freddie are different, for sure, but LIVE Freddie was an overwhelming force of nature. To see BB's show left you over-joyed, but Freddie left me wrung out and begging for mercy!
@Masteryouyou Thanks for your response. It's hard to compare a tame-sounding F.K. 1961 studio recording (those damn A&R guys) with later BB King stuff based on YouTube. The Freddie King stuff I've seen here pales in comparison to my memories of seeing him live in the 70's. In YouTube videos Freddie has mostly Fender Super Reverb amplifiers, 40 watts and 4 ten-inch speakers. When I saw him he had much more powerful Marshall Stack amplifiers, 100 watts with two 4x10' speaker cabs. He sounded huge!
Not to be sacreligious, but y'all can keep Freddy, Eric, and SRV on this one. Listen to Jeff Healy smoke this tune! Now if y'all want to hear Freddy playing the MFing blues, check him rip on this my favorite Freddy track off all time: Reconsider Baby (YouTube: DBqtY4vMA5o)
@michaeljamsmith You're right on both counts; this isn't up to Freddie's standards, but Reconsider Baby (which I hadn't heard) *definitely* kicks ass. Thanks for mentioning it.
@naabjr Agreed! The first time I hear Freddie's version, well, I thought I had heard it all, until he got to that part. Gives me the shivers even today, just knowing it's coming! Too bad the vid doesn't show him actually playing it. But this is a nice take to have. Thanks for the post.
@tonywilk57 This is actually different from the traditionally heard original recording of this song. This is Freddie re-recording his own tune. Perhaps "rendition" might be a more suitable word to discribe this recording.
