I had a guy on me pull an Americana in class a few weeks back and this video flashed through my head and while I didn't get a counter tap it did give me leverage to stop his lock and break his sub attempt. Nice Prof. Owen!!
Awesome thanks!!! I always gett caught in a americana in class, I'm only new in doing BJJ, this will help me alot, but I guess it comes down to experience & timing hopefully I will get over time...Thanks again!!
Another excellent taught techique by Kieth but I must add that the timing of this counter is critical as being a second too late and you will really wished you had just tapped.
getting submitted by keylock/americana while having somebody in your gaurd should never happen, they just can't get the proper leverage without passing your legs
First of all, thanks for being inconsiderate considering it was a theoretical question. Second, ever consider that maybe you are rolling with someone who is far beyond you? Perhaps a Gracie skill level. I bet any of them could put a kimura or americana on you from inside your guard, without much effort at all.
lol im sure they could put an kimura on me from guard, but not an Americana, search every video of the land im pretty much positive you will never find someone tapping from a Americana while in closed guard...either position having someone in there guard, or being in somebodys guard. btw if u ever tap while having sum1 in ur closed guard ...it better be your 1st day, and what does it matter becasue im sure your not rolling with people that are blackbelt level lol
Again, it was hypothetical. I bet you could train for however long you want, and there are still people who would tap you in your guard. And somebody with overwhelming power or weight could probably put an americana on most people from within their guard.
u kno, i didnt want to sound like a douche, which i did, i didnt kno this stuff as a WB either but the way you put on a americana on somebody, it really doesnt matter how strong they are, unless...unhuman strength, its just not the type of thing you can put on someone while they have them in full guard, see with full guard if someone tried to put on, any type of arm or shoulder lock or any submission for that matter, there are billion counter subs, escapes, sweeps, its why y u never see it
I know it's not very likely, anybody good would just get out of their guard first, but it was just hypothetical. And you completely missed my "what about mount" part too.
Also, there are people with unhuman strength, think Lesnar and Lashley, and for his size probably Mike Brown.
nah thats not unhuman strength lesnar would never put an americana on sum1s guard, since the hips are blocking him from being able to get low enough and level with your body, 2 get a submission he would have to pass the guard
hahaha and for americana in the mount i got put in one of those last night in class i was just thinking holy shit...ironic haha a P belt should not get put in this shit
say they go for your left arm, scoot your hips out to the right, whilst pushing their left shoulder with your right hand - you should then be in a good position to take the back
awsome, I didn't know what to do when stuck on this possition, i would always try to roll or keep my back off the ground to relieve pressure. Now I have a counter for it. THANKS!
this guy is pound for pound the best bjj teacher out there.

@123gwf thats why he captured his hand between his legs. And if you roll the guy over he's not gonna realize quick enough to counter it. anyway.

if your getting An Americana put on you in the guard you should really think about quitting the sport of BJJ
