I first hear this song on Prairie Home Companion years ago. I'd never heard any of his stuff, really, (as an adult anyway) other than his movie/TV stuff.
So, you can imagine, my jaw.
dropped.
(and to be honest, it choked me up.)
I mean, it's obvious the guy is talented, but I had no clue he was so deep, and capable of such biting humor.
Of course, I now have a huge respect for the man, but I haven't seen or heard from this song since.
Guanches "weren't there anymore"? That's inaccurate, guanches never totally dissapeared, the social changes were complex, but there's still a canarian people today. HERE WE ARE!!!!.
This is probably - in my opinion - one of the greatest songs of all time and I've been a huge fan of Randy's stuff for years and just recently spotted this on "Bad Love", an album that's rarely listened to.
@ckad79 Rarely listened to? I've been listening to "Bad Love" since it was released in '99. It's one of the best albums, by anybody, in history. "Shame, Shame, Shame."
bullets, disease, the Portuguese, they weren't there anymore!

Just in awe of his lyrics, music, and offbeat point of view. He was never just for Pixar!

The canarian part is inaccurate, we keep some guanche blood and traits. Canary Islanders were never fully "gone". We are here.

Penetratingly honest and accurate lyrics, exposing white American and European adventurism and hypocrisy at every turn.

How evil Western Society, the very society in which this man, whose every song sounds the same, makes his living.

@fjccommish Take it easy. It's a satire. Like Swift's "A Modest Proposal". And it's funny besides.
