Why do the most idiot comments come from USA? (Yes I am from the USA... but I've lived in Germany for many years so maybe I don't count) Sad to say Americans seem to believe everything that is seen on TV. (and right now the fad is MMA ufc stuff )
I hate to be a youtube shifu, but I dont see Baji principles in this. When my laoshi and me do this ( im only learning this since recently) it is much more with the body...
I don't think it's an American thing, I think for the most part it has something to do with ones limited vision. The world is larger then most people realize. Through that limited vision they boast of things and make comments out of context. That certainly happens everywhere not just the US
Why do the most idiot comments come from USA? In every video of martial arts that I see on youtube, americans really love to say bullshits. And I can't understand the reason, because in USA there are the worst and ridiculous "versions" of martial arts in the wolrd. American karate, american kenpo, fatty ninjas, dance-aikido... Fortunately they have baseball, in that they're ok. Continue play baseball, so :)
@S0undBite I don't think that it's necessary to be a genius to understand that is a 2 men set and not a sparring. It's an exercise to train a lot of important aspect, like distance and other things. Maybe, next time, try to inform about what you're watching before writing.
"Karate" originally meant "Chinese Hand" -closely pronounced with empty hand- before moving to Japan so maybe he is thinking even deeper and meaning that this is true chinese hand skill :))
Im also with brucenatelee im in the poor class of life. But I do know martial arts and im looking for books videos and stuff that can teach styles like these. Classes are so expensive these days though.
When I was young teenager, myself & some friends took a martial arts class at the local NAS gym- basically, general martial arts. Out of the class, he taught 3 of us who were very into the class a few different techniques than he showed to the rest. He showed us a "step that would split the earth and a hit to crack a mountain." Looking back, it was VERY similar to baji's power-issueing step & drill fist- quick, hard, brutal yet focued power.
Are there any books or videos I can order or buy to learn the basics of this style? I already know a little bit of martial arts, but personal classes usually cost a lot with my kind of budget.
I'm not an expert but from what I've read and heard it isn't very efficiant to learn a type of marcial art by looking at videos or reading about it, you will get a better effect by training with a Sifu (sensei if I understand correctly). It costs but it shouldn't be all that expensive, see if you can make a deal.
Master Su Yu Chang have recorded two videos with the whole systems of the Wutan Lineage. But I'm agree with Dannienn, at least you practice baji with a qulified Shifu you're not gonna learn it. Baji's chikung and fajing couldn't be learned in a book.
Oh, also watching the video, I noticed the difference in skill level:
the younger looking one with the tighter shirt, when he slams down his foot for a strike, the echo sounds hollow, like he's exerting more force in his foot to draw power but dispersing it improperly. But the older man in the looser shirt, his stomps are booming like he's connecting himself to the ground and rooting his attacks. Very interesting to watch them.
I thought they were practicing random strikes, kicks, and blocks until near the end, one of them was acting as if he wasn't close enough. When it comes to wushu arts that don't require acrobatic skill, baji quan is my favorite.
Where exactly is this? I want to learn this style (one of the few outside of Kyokushin, Jun Fan, and Muay Thai that I want to learn), but it's hard to find any instructors where I live. V_V
Although I'm looking in the future to move either to Denver or LA area, know of any instructors out there?

True karate skill, well done.

lol, this is Baji quan kung fu, not karate. unless, of course, you are referring to it as karate as in "empty hand skill". I would agree there.
